[QUOTE="cjdaweasel"][QUOTE="Blackbond"][QUOTE="cjdaweasel"] I've been worried that since companies love to copy each other, that if the Wii gains a significant market share, the next round of consoles will be following suit. If the main goal of console developers becomes price point and not hardware power, it could lead to not-that-much-more-powerful-but-cheap round of consoles next gen.
I'd hate to think that we're going to be missing out on better graphics and smarter AI in the next round just because eveyone wants to mimic Nintendo's success.

Well you know Sony and Nintendo could come up with their own innovative ideas like Nintendo to make their new systems a run away success. They don't HAVE TO COPY
That's not the point though. If something is a commercial success, then it will be copied. That's why we have fifteen thousand reality TV shows, more ipod look-alikes than a Chineese street market, and why the PS3 has a built in HD.
If it works, its going to be copied. Companies will go where the money is.
So why did Nintendo create the Wii instead of copying the PS2?
Now that extremism. I'm not saying that all companies will always copy each other every time. I'm saying that in general, companies will copy what will give them the greatest returns.
If the Wii is a screaming success, then I can see MS and Sony copying their business model. And that, is where the issue lies.
