No game is worth buying at launch, much less pre-order imo. If it's a game i really want early, like FC4, Evolve, The Crew latter this year, i'll wait 7-10 days to see reviews, hear from other gamers, check scores, know about performance on PC, etc. If it's clear, i'll buy it.

I don't buy games at launch. Games here are too expensive. Even games like gta5 or TLOU is not worth it.

its not like they are holy grail of gaming. nothing worth full price.

all it has to do is catch my interest, I dont care about scores since sometimes they are just personal opinions.

For $60?

I basically only do that for super-hyped games like GTA-V or Last of Us - games from proven studios that I know will be good or I've been waiting years for. I only buy "day 1" games about 5 times per year - and of course I seek out deals or pre-order bonuses if I'm going to do that. Very rarely would I buy a game for the full $60 if there are no discounts or bonuses.

It just has to be something I really want. The Witcher, Zelda, Mass Effect, and Mario are four franchises I can think of that I have no problem paying full price at launch for. If there is a special edition that comes with an art book, that's an instant upgrade for me. I'm a sucker for those.

I dig reviews, not scores. The scores can be so-so. But, if the lower scores are due to stuff I don't care about such as MP and the rest of the game is fine, I'd still buy the game.

If I like the game enough, I'd buy the game full price.

A very complex algorithm for me to dictate if and when I will spend money on a videogame.

Step 1: Decide if I want to play a game

Step 2: If the answer is yes, I go buy said game

I cut into my expenses plenty because of Steam sales and gamefly, so mostly I buy downloadable stuff. But here and there I buy a 60 dollar game depending on if I want to play the game or not.

If it's an established series I love then I consider paying full price, but these days I almost always wait for price drops.

Team ICO, GTA or Halo. These games will be day 1 purchases no matter what. Although I'm starting to think Team ICO is dead.

I am most likely to shell out full price for a game that is (1) part of a series I enjoy, (2) from a developer that I support, or (3) the content far outweighs the price. It would seem silly to make the decision based on a score (i.e. 8 or higher), but I do look at let's plays and reviews to see if their are common themes that pop up (i.e. bad controls, poor AI, great story, good level design, etc.).

With that said, my backlog of games is to the point where I do not buy at launch anymore, so I often get the games much latter at a lower price.

I have to be a huge fan of the franchise. I very rarely buy new releases day one or at $60.

Haha. This.

That's not to say I pay full price often, but when I do there's nothing else to it than me wanting the game. People really overthink this kind of shit IMO.

Depends on: the developer, franchise, preorder bonuses, and limited copies.

typically, games day-1 are below $38USD for PC digital downloads. due to exchange rates, i'm getting >50% discount compared to what i used to pay.

if i'm excited about a game, that's not a lot of money. i just send my butler home a couple of hours early.

I rarely buy games on launch day, although when I do its usually one that costs no more than £15. Last game I got was Valiant Hearts on pc and so far its totally worth the money. This was during the steam summer sale too, where I already bought a ton of games but this one took priority.

I will buy mgsv at launch, however I'm yet to play Ground Zeroes. This is because I want to play it on the ps4 and not on my ps3, but won't buy a Ps4 till it has a bigger library or until mgsv comes out.

Honestly, $60 for a video game that I truly enjoy is justifiable to me, but I only ever pay that price if I don't think I will be able to get the game for $30 or less within a few months of release. So, I basically only pay full price for the occasional Nintendo game.

Not a 100% flawless but if it has Bungie, Bioware or Turn 10 on the box, it's been worth the price of admission.

Hype, from following the game from reveal, through production, demos, E3 and finally launch. These days with the internet and media it's not too hard to see what games are worth buying day 1. Of course it comes down to personal preference, but you very rarely get surprised with the quality of a game these days,.

hard to say, games are pretty expensive at launch and they usually go on sale quickly. leaves very little reason to buy right away unless I really, really, like the series or developer I guess

Personal interest on the games.

I bought a 360 for Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts Dont regret it, i enjoyed that game

and i bought an Xbox One for Killer Instinct and at the time, waiting for Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare, which were really worth it for me as i love them both.

As a full Nintendo fan im obligated to buy their systems anyway, but not at launch, my xbone the same.

To be honest, mostly extrinsic factors:

1. not released at the same time as better games

2. i can afford it at the time.

if its a $60, this would have to be how many hours i can get out of a game and if its annualized. if its annualized, i would wait for the $40 game sale.

rpgs are the only consistent genre i would be ok buying full priced unless it was close to black friday

Thanks to promos, surveys and apps and other things, I've been collecting free Xbox and PS money in my accounts. And because of game sharing, we buy games we're interested in digitally MSRP day one. So when I buy a game at MSRP I don't feel bad because most likely I paid if not all but most of the MSRP price with free credits and I could enjoy the game more by playing with the person I game shared with. Now that I think about it I haven't paid MSRP for a game in years. Right now I have enough free credits to buy like 3 full MSRP $60 games digitally. I do regret getting Watch_Dogs at full price even if I used free credits though.
