[QUOTE="ramonnl"]Consoles feels like one big community, all games connected with each other. Pc games feels all so disconnected, even with steam. Maybe if steam improve some more.gmaster456Someone who hasn't played a game on the PC in the last decade.
You're telling me PC gaming has even close to the community aspect of something like xbox live? Come on man, I like PC too, but thats just not the case. There are too many options on PC for that to ever happen. Vent, Team speak, Xfire, steam, skype ect.

It's beyond it, many games have their own dense microcosms of communities, and there's various social networks that branch.must we forget that this generation alone the pc has more high scoring exclusives (8.0+) than all three consoles combined?
The console only gamers tend to "forget" that bit of information :Pmust we forget that this generation alone the pc has more high scoring exclusives (8.0+) than all three consoles combined?

[QUOTE="Mr_Cumberdale"]It just needs a wide variety of good games.hypoty
So it's already pwning consoles then?
He seems to think the PC library is a handful of shooters and an rts.
He also claims that PC gaming is not good because PCs are not specifically designed for games lol.
So dont bother.
Personally, I think that we need to see some critically-acclaimed console games ported to the PC before the console gamers even see a computer as a gaming platform. That practically translates to "Gabe, if you're going to delay HL2Ep3, at least use that money to save PC gaming!"
No windows its slow and adds like 120$ more to the cost of the system. use cloud gaming so people dont have to worry about hardware specs. When i worked retail i was amazed how so many people knew next to nothing about tehconlogy. Only time these people upgrade is when they buy a whole new machine. Plus this don't even know what makes there new pc better then the old one.

Is there any real reason why Windows needs to use twice the resources with every OS release? The day they make Steam for linux is the day I say good bye to Windows.
Jebus213
You might want to do some research on that claim.. I do believe a easy example is that windows 7 runs with less resources then Vista. Defeats that theory.
But does it really need to use more then 1.2GB of RAM anyway? On idle?
It's not using the RAM because it needs to as much as it's putting your memory to good use, instead of just letting it sit idle.
neither pc or consoles can pwn each other... each have their strengths and weaknesses... both have games the other cant play.... in fact in my top 10... its a mixed bag of pc and consoles games....... so no one wins!!!campzor
THIS is very true, although most PC gamers will say that graphics are all that matter:(

That would explain why the most successful and popular games on PC are some of the least graphically advanced...[QUOTE="campzor"]neither pc or consoles can pwn each other... each have their strengths and weaknesses... both have games the other cant play.... in fact in my top 10... its a mixed bag of pc and consoles games....... so no one wins!!!mztazmz

Random generalization I see.. Let me go ahead and state, "Most Pc gamers will not say graphics are all that matter"........ (generalization vs Generalization)

EDIT: Windows doesn't suck. Windows is perfectly fine. No need to push a new OS that'd only drive away customers.

actually the OS does a prefetch of programs you normally use. The concept that went behind vista and 7 are try to utilize as much ram as possible to speed everything up.Latency, input lag, bandwidth, and caps. They also don't yet render at the maximum quality, there's compression, capture frame rate.. whole lotta things get in the way of the render being anyway near as good as the real deal.No windows its slow and adds like 120$ more to the cost of the system. use cloud gaming so people dont have to worry about hardware specs. I'd say, it'd be wonderful if games supported Linux (were OpenGL..) then the OS is free, but for now, clouds suck.
Half of those points are just trying to make PC a console. The best thing about pc is that it's open and you can do what you want. If i want a console experience, i'll play on my PS3. I like my PC how it is.
[QUOTE="Birdy09"][QUOTE="Kiyobear"]Steam is ridiculously overated here if anything ever was, yes the deals are good but I just use it to buy games, it never offers any other function thats worthwhile. its just a store to me, with a bad UI and a poor feature set. Huh? Steam is by far the best thing PC gaming has going for it. In one place, you get: Authentication (for Steamworks games) Friends list Voice over IP DLC store On top of that, they're trying to integrate features like a launcher with a controller-friendly interface and one-touch driver updates for common gaming hardware. I love Steam, and if every single game I'm interested in handled everything through Steam, I'd be a lot more interested in PC gaming. I appreciate their efforts to enhance the user experience instead of just accepting the status quo.If Steam continues on as a juggernaut we may end up with a closed platform.

Authentication? why do I care? I love having to re-use my email to get unlock passwords when switch between my PC and Laptop  even when it shouldnt it still does.
Freinds list? You mean like the million other ones? built into most games, most other gaming software, and normal social software. my freinds list is skype.... I Dont need that intrusive overlay during games.
Voice over IP .... again why would I use that? I have skype.
DLC store? .... joke?
As far as drivers go.... I dont get it, I get immediate alerts of Graphics card updates, and most game updates are shown ingame, very rarely are they not... are you still PC gaming in the 90s early 2000?
How can 2011 hardware not own 2005 hardware?DroidPhysX
So because something is "newer" automatically makes it better?
No matter what people tell you it's still inconvienent to use a PC from a couch.
Pray_to_me
Not if you're playing with a controller :P
Not that I care, since I actually prefer gaming with my 24"" 1920x1080 monitor, in my gaming-dedicated room. And it's very comfortable in here!
I can agree with this, ive tried it, its rather bad. But then I prefer to be at a desk anyway, even with console games, im more alert, dont feel like a slob and can see finer detail quicker on the screen. No matter what people tell you it's still inconvienent to use a PC from a couch.

YEP...m/k are meant for a desk and to be used sitting upright. AND a gamepad does not work as well on pc as console so no argument there.
more standardized hardware. Currently PC gaming consists of a whole lot of different configurations and obviously it's hard to develop for every different PC out there. So what there would need to be is a "rounded-up" configuration that would be seen as a standard. Of course games could still utilize the extra power (or run on worse hardware) but that would be up to the devs.nameless12345You mean turn it into a console? no thanks.
No matter what people tell you it's still inconvienent to use a PC from a couch.

Care to explain... Inconvient is a response for each person. I use wireless keyboards and mouse and love them. Why is it inconvienent for me? Random Generalization with a random fallacy thrown in...
FYI.. just because you do not like it does not dictate others won't or that "no matter what people say its ____"... Why are you throwing your opinion as facts?
Guess I should simplify what your comment actually came off as...

I stopped reading right there. PC doesn't have to change a thing to give consoles a run for their money. PC already owns consoles.Let's try to leave out answers like "it already did" and try to look at what the PC would need to give the consoles a run for their money:
nameless12345
how because hardware is only a tool ,
it cant beat at least one companies, but the hd twins are just poor mans pcs , lol so ya yall decide but leaving nintnedo out of this would be the very smart thing to do because no where can you play mariokart zelda metroid among others or get the unique features nintendo brings to the table , legally , so that means ya ya know dont even start , oh my pc can play all of those , cause legally it can not
but it needs exclusives thats what pc needs, if it dont get any besides fpses all the time ,, or sims , or 1 game a yr , it wont beat 360 or ps3 period
PC games owns console games in graphics, ability to do mods, and RTS games. Everything else...not so much.

Yes, authentication. Why do I need to have a Steam account, a Gamespy account, an EA account, a GfW Live account, and who knows what other accounts I've forgotten about over the years? Consoles can do everything from one account. Why shouldn't PCs? Friends list: following from authentication, how do you know that Lowe0 at EA is the same as Lowe0 on Steam? More importantly, if someone has already friended me in one game, why shouldn't they see me in every other game? If someone mutes me in game, why shouldn't I be muted in every other game automatically? Consoles solve all of these problems by having a single identity across the entire platform. Why shouldn't PCs? Voice over IP: by making it a library that integrates into the game, developers can leverage voice as part of their game design. Squads can automatically get a channel set up the instant they're created, and players can automatically be connected to the right channel as they join or switch squads. Voice can be used as part of gameplay; say, playing local voice to alert enemies that a chatty squad is incoming, or disabling voice due to interference equipment deployed by an opposing player. DLC store: no, not a joke. If it's good, professionally-created content that I see value in, I have no problem with spending a few bucks for it. Drivers, updates, etc.: my graphics card has auto-update, my sound card has auto-update, and my mouse and keyboard supposedly have it (though it doesn't seem to work), but that's it. My network card and chipset don't. Besides, why should I even get an alert? Why isn't it just taken care of for me? Steam is already capable of doing this for games; I'd like to see it do so for the rest of my system as well. Please Log In to post.
