What excites you and scares you about next gen?

I'm a bit scared for the realism and uncanny valley. Believe it or not.

But I'm excited for the physics and destructible environments. This will added tons of new gameplay to games without the need of idiotic gimmicks. And 60 frames for a smooth experience!

What excites me:-

Simply more powerful consoles which leads to better games with advanced physics, AI and graphics.

What scares me:-

Casualisation! Urgh! Games are getting too easy nowadays. Casual consoles such as Xbox 720 and Wii-U might sell way more than PS4 which could lead to Sony giving up the core. This would be disastrous.

Horrible forms of DRM, online passes, unfinished games being milked by patches and stupid DLCs. I don't want all of this garbage. Due to the massive availability of the Internet, this is getting developers lazy into thinking "Oh, let's not bother to test the game because we can just release patches to it anyway..." and release broken games.

Gimmicks. Due to advances in technology and casualisation, gimmicks are bound to happen...

Single player dying in favour for multiplayer. That would be awful.

Nothing and nothing.

If devs would put graphics in the back seat and concentrate more on game design while gearing that extra hardware power towards physics, AI and scale I would be excited!

But thats what I expected this gen and... well, we all know how that turned out. We need new and better experiences, not a shiny new coat on an old clunker.

I don't blame the devs though, its the gamers that are never satisfied with the graphics for more than 5 minutes.

All the things that could scare me about the industry already happened this gen. I could go into a long winded explanation, but to make it short. As a whole, we have proven that we are idiots as consumers.

Sony finally getting kicked out of the games business ... or games hardware business at least, excites me. I also find it quite exciting that cows will have to pay for PSN next gen, will be quite funny.

Lol. So much hate towards Sony and PlayStation. This is a very strong indication of jealousy and butthurt.

Why not get a PS3 and all of its awesome games? If you do, you won't have to do stupid fanboy behaviour on this forum and your percentage of butthurt would be 0%.

I own a PS3 and compared to my 360 its inferior in every way (except the blu ray player, thats nice for movies) Ive only kept my PS3 because of the 1st party exclusives. So when Sony fuks up, they can go third party and i can play naughty dogs games on my next xbox.

I am also personally worried about the next Xbox because if they don't get better exclusives and change some policies, I won't be interested in it and honestly I doubt very many would be either. I doubt Halo will be very popular next gen, it's like Golden Eye and MK, they were popular in their day but soon people passed them. The next Xbox needs more. PS4 and Wii U will not have this problem.

BTW, Halo has been very popular for two gens, and no PS3 exclusive managed to match the franchise's popularity.

I am expecting graphics and games that bombard neurons into your brain with such speed, verocity and at the same time overwhelming harmony that some people don't dare to play it, that some peoples brains can't handle it, that some kids who shouldn't play it it seizure on it. I want games to resemble psychedelic trips, a new genre, kinda what they are trying with garden of eden but 142 times better.

Same here... we'll probably get the same stuff we played this gen with better graphics...

However let be positive, maybe we'll get fresh new ideas and features :)

Capcom will have won't be able to put a Monster Hunter game on a non-HD console for Western gamers.. They just probably won't release one at all, but at least next gen will force their hand. If Versus 13 doesn't come out this generation.. It will come out next generation or never come out. So... I guess I'm sort of excited I'll know for sure during next generation. Maybe they're delaying it because the intend to release it as a launch game for the PS4, but can't announce anything yet?

What scares me? Hardware issues and no backwards compatibility for the 720/PS4. I imagine there won't be given the success of HD remakes.. Though current gen games are in HD already.
