Good Games

Reliable Hardware

Some form of BC (especially for 360's successor, because of 360's epic failure hardware-wise)

Some more VARIETY

All I ask for, really. I do not care for 720p/1080p nor do I care for any of PSN/XBL's superfluous services thta will likely cross over into the next-gen.

Region-free games are top of my list. It will mean that companies may be forced to make pricing more consistant.

And not just 1080p either, but full 1920x1080 native...@ 60fps, to boot. With at least some bells and whistles. Current PC tech can pretty much handle that consistently already, so I'd imagine tech two years down the road should handle it no problem.

1. No addons!! Things like Wifi, BluRay and motion control must be built in. Here that MS!!!

2. Right price point from the start. I think it has been proven that consumers are willing to pay $399 at the most for a new console!! Not $600-700. Here that Sony!

3. Motion control done right. Not as an after thought!

4. New games need to be able to be downloaded from release. STEAM does it, why cant XBL or PSN?

Localization delays pretty much kill regionless gaming. I mean, the PS3 is regionless already yet true all-region games are an elusive breed.

1. What if a new wireless standard emerges in the meantime? Now the PS3 needs a dongle, too, because it can't support 802.11n internally (it's a true hardware change). 2. They'll counter with inflation. Why else are the price of games climbing? They're not keeping up with inflation. 3. Why not brain control? That way you don't have to move around like an idiot. Just think what you want and let it go (yeah, I know it's still about ten years too soon). 4. Know how big of a hard drive you'd need to all those games, especially those of BluRay caliber? Not to mention all the downloaded music, TV shows, movies, etc. you'll be getting, too? You want my opinion, they need to allow the use of external hard drives as full-function drives, as in anything you can use with the official hard drive you can do on the external as well (Paranoid about hacking? Does the word "encryption" give you a clue?). Now the sky's the limit for storage.

The successor of the Wii should have an updated and improved online interface. Keep friend codes, but make it easier for people to add friends, to communicate and to experience the Virtual Console and Wii Ware. Nintendo are currently giving their online modes a big push in advertising, but it really needs a revamp to create the most streamlined experience possible.

It should also have a more obvious account system, like PSN and XBL that knows which games you have purchased, and allows you to transfer / redownload onto the new system. I would hate it if VC and WW downloads became redundant.

WM+ or a more advanced remote needs to be included out of the box, with a more ergonomic design that is as iconic as the original.

It would be nice if the successor also had graphical capabilities comparable to its competition, to allow for easier porting of multiplat titles.

All consoles need to have proper backwards compatability with all CD based systems, and the cIassic downloadables need to be updated much more frequently, with better content.

The power to produce HD games but still have the ability to play with Composite cables and Composite Cables.

Data Transferable (for downloaded games I have downloaded on the other console.)

.....

Heck why not make the Console the TV itself?

the 2 biggest things the consoles need is mandatory HD for caching/installs, and a ton of ram. 4 gigs of ram would be nice for a console. 6 even better.

Even the current "HD" systems would be able to keep up closer with the PC by having more ram.

Next gen consoles should focus more on that type of stuff, then adding an expensive new media format or super complex GPU. Most games barely tax my GTX 280 right now. There is no need to pump a GTX 295 SLI into a small box, driving up the costs exponentially only to be out done in six months by new PC tech anyway. The Wii showed us this.

There shouldn't be as small as a leap as the Wii is graphically, but even with the big budgets current PC hardware is far more powerful then the software made for it. Give the developers another generation to catch up IMO.

Feasible eh? 1. A lot more reliable hardware. 2. BC with at least this gen's consoles. 3. Wired controller support or wireless controllers like the Dualshock 3 4. Free good online 5. General price of games not going above $60.

you've got to remember that games constantly increase their demands, my 8800gt won't be playing 1080p at 60fps in 2 years time for alot of games. that's asking alot to have 1080p as standard in consoles without increasing the cost.

----------------------------------

region free games, i forgot about ghostbusters and i'll probably forget about silent hill:sm and no more heroes 2 because they release them 2-3 months after the us release date.

good pricing, £150-250 sounds about right and then i won't hesitate and wait to buy consoles (ala ps3)

no addons sound good, i don't want to buy another expenisive wifi adapter, or rechargable battery packs for wii and 360.

100gb+ hard drive especially if full downloadable games become more accessible.

reliability is also a big factor, i'm on my 4th 360! and that rounds off my list.

The first is doable with today's technology and DX10-caliber graphics, and those prices are already starting to drop. Now, the bar will keep moving up, but I would think DX10- or DX11-****graphics at 1080p60 steady would be something with which to look forward in about two years. Put in 1GB or video memory coupled with 4-8GB (depending on RAM prices then) of system memory and you'll have the makings of a 1080p powerhouse, depending on GPGPU demands.

Getting it from Sony will be tough sell. Last I read, they're going away from Cell and nVidia technology, which will make BC difficult (consider: emulating in realtime a float-heavy Cell with a POWER chip whose floating performance isn't as strong is bound to be a challenge if not a reinforced concrete wall).

Being equal to the PC movement in terms of hardware. I remember when the XBOX had equal graphics as the PC every PC-XBOX multiplatform game looked the same. But this is a ridiculous proposition as the graphics cards movement has changed since then lol.

That depends on the companies involved. Forget Nintendo platforms appearing on anything but Nintendo platforms. Genesis emulation already exists for select games. Older computers will have compatibility issues.

Even better, support for using an external hard drive as a full-function device for the console in terms of downloaded games, saves, etc. With encryption used to prevent hacking.

You said feasible. This will NEVER happen.

Region free games will also never happen due to different economies. the second that region free is the norm, it comes down to whose economy is better. The US alone would lose millions to a surplus in import sales.

On the issue of lifetime guarantees, some things are guaranteed for life, such as some PC parts. Some governments mandate at least a five year warranty. Why not have a lifetime warranty and put your money where your proverbial mouth is?

Because you can't test hardware like a video game console the same way you can stress a hard drive for instance. It is completely different for singular pieces, but when you add in all the little parts that bring multiple pieces together for a console, it is impossible to make that guarantee, let alone put money on it. You think Microsoft will consider a life time guarantee for the 360s successor? Absolutely not. What something like this does however is makes them more aware of the issues come next gen and not to be so sloppy. Rather than rushing a console out the door, they are giving more time to R&D. I bet you might see standard 3 year warranties, but never life time. To many variables.

[QUOTE="HuusAsking"][QUOTE="gamer620"] You said feasible.

Well, how about a minimum five-year warranty, then? Some European countries mandate such a warranty (at a minimum) for all products, IIRC, as a means of quality assurance.
