[QUOTE="gamer620"][QUOTE="HuusAsking"]On the issue of lifetime guarantees, some things are guaranteed for life, such as some PC parts. Some governments mandate at least a five year warranty. Why not have a lifetime warranty and put your money where your proverbial mouth is?HuusAsking

Because you can't test hardware like a video game console the same way you can stress a hard drive for instance. It is completely different for singular pieces, but when you add in all the little parts that bring multiple pieces together for a console, it is impossible to make that guarantee, let alone put money on it. You think Microsoft will consider a life time guarantee for the 360s successor? Absolutely not. What something like this does however is makes them more aware of the issues come next gen and not to be so sloppy. Rather than rushing a console out the door, they are giving more time to R&D. I bet you might see standard 3 year warranties, but never life time. To many variables.

Well, how about a minimum five-year warranty, then? Some European countries mandate such a warranty (at a minimum) for all products, IIRC, as a means of quality assurance.

Your problem (and it is not just you, so don't think I am picking on you specifically) is that you are looking at this from the consumer's perspective rather than a business perspective. What is best for the end consumer is not the best business decision. Free shipping on everything would be fantastic, but it will never happen because its bad business practice. Lifetime warranties and even just long term warranties are bad business decisions for hardware that can never be disaster proof. Now on the other hand, extended warranties DO exist. You have to pay for this though, much like you pay for your car insurance in case a tree falls on your call in the middle of the night. Insurance covers it. If for instance, microsoft offered an out of the box life time warranty, they would be relying on uncontrollable events (weather, dust, shipping, ect) to be in favor of their hardware. These are all problems that are out of the manufacturers control (and are FREQUENT OCCURANCES that can brick any system at any given time) If you want a life time warranty on your consoles, you should buy an extended warranty with your system. Break the system right before the warranty expires and repeat. Youll pay extra for it, but you won't pay for the entire price for the new system and you don't even have to worry about shipping it back to the manufacturer and waiting.

They will never offer a life time gurantee. Which that maybe the only way I buy a next gen console on launch date is if they were to release a 5 year warranty for their product which is very doubtful that they will so odds are I won't be buying brand new.

BC is a nice option but I'm fine with just buying old consoles as well.

The failure rate doesn't matter if a 5 year warranty let alone a life time warranty is applied to the product. I could care less what the failure rate is I won't be buying till the price is right which probably won't show up till a few years after release date.

Free online is a must

The biggest thing is the warranty for me. I won't spend hundreds of dollars this next gen on something going bad on me in 2 or 3 years. I don't care what the failure rates are I won't be spending more than $300 for it unless around 5 year warranty is applied.

So I'm looking at it from a consumer's perspective. "People first, business second" is a philosophy of mine. And like I said, it's the law in some countries because governments also see the people as more important than business and want businesses to think similarly by standing behind their products for reasonable lengths of time.

And claiming uncontrollable cirsumstances can be considered baloney by some people. If a situation can be anticipated (like rough shipping or dust), preventive measures can be taken (such as good packing techniques or dust protection or ventilation). As for things that can be verified as being the user's fault, a warranty can include a caveat for that.

The PC currently has almost everything here. So basically, you want the next gen system to be a PC? =P

In the sense of problems in shipping, thats why companies have factory warranties that last 90 days from purchase. Dust however is different as its completely random and dependent on user upkeep. It is the same with bad weather. I not once stated anything about user fault, as that would never be covered by a warranty anyways.

try not to get add-ons

free online.

next ninty console:

revive th old 1st party franchises(starfox, f-zero, etc..)

all present VC games already on next gen VC

dod what you did in the 80s, don't tolerate shovelware

get the 3rds partys back

  1. Reliable Hardware - No breakdown or Meltdown
  2. Removable-upgradable HDD (like with PS3)
  3. BR/DVD player built in
  4. 1080p must be standard
  5. HDMI & USB ports
  6. HDMI cables included with all SKUs - NO MORE composite and component
  7. Wi-Fi capable in all (although personally I prefer ethernet hard line)
  8. Affordable price at launch, at least $299, nothing more than that.
  9. And a FREE GAME included with each SKU, just like the Wii
  10. all controllers and Motion Sensing devices have removable batteries, like 360. (don't like the idea of internal batteries dying with age)

1. Expand on game physics: It would be nice to have this become more and more ingrained into your average game. This is basically happening anyway so basically I hope that developers keep on going down this road. 2. Increase in average quality of story telling: This is strictly about having the overall quality on an average to increase. Obviously there are examples of good game stories but as a whole this is one of the weaker elements of games. This is not to say that every game out there needs to suddenly go the Bioware route, but it would be nice to have some sort of balance. 3. More immersion We are reaching amazing graphical levels, I replayed Deus Ex recently and that game just looks horrible now. I remember that when it came out I was amazed at the detail in the game. Lets see some games now that start to use more then just graphics to push immersion.
