GOW is the antithesis of hardcore.

Snugenz

Absolutely not, its as casual as they come.

Doesnt make them bad games though.

i dont think god mode is that casual and the epic battles. i guess we just have different opinions of hardcore game...

I'll need you to elaborate on the skill involved. From my knowledge it just requires an investment in time.

savagetwinkie

Exceptional execution, teamwork, class knowledge (not just your own class), lateral thinking, and advanced strategy (in regards to PVP especially).

Investment of time means nothing at high levels of play, if you're not good enough and if your raid/team isnt good enough, you're not going to advance no matter how much time you invest.

Skill is the reason why you have the best guilds clearing hardmodes weeks after a new content patch is released, and its also the reason you have guilds that never clear that content within that patch (even after the content has been nerfed).

its all about patterns, you learn the patterns, you follow through those steps. Good guilds are just willing to dedicate that time to learn the boss fights

If it was about patterns then everyone would learn them eventually, knowing fights and a proper strategy is only part of the battle, the rest is where execution comes in.

And tbh, there's lower tier guilds out there that put more time into the game than top tier guilds, the only difference is that top tier guilds take alot less time to finish content. Which i attribute to skill (skill being the things i mentioned before).

Games that require a deep sense of commitment to get to the jest of the game because of the steep/convoluted learning curve is a hardcore game imo. Those aren't my type of games so I can't really name any game in particular other then simulators or card games. I much prefer simple games like Ninja Gaiden (knowing when to block/evade is all the battle), Call of Duty, Street Fighter, Portal, and such.

Thats completely untrue, the fact that there's such a divide in player progress would prove that there's a skill curve to the game. The top PVE guilds and top PVP players are clearly better than the vast majority at what they do and since cheating is near impossible in the game the only explaination is that they are better skilled.

Not saying they're particularly "hardcore" but there's definitely skill involved in WoW.

You seem more knowledgeable than I in this genre, and if what you state is true, then I stand corrected.:)

I suppose I seem to equate videogame skill with hand-eye coordination.

Different genres of video games require different kind of skills. The same as chess posing a different kind of challenge from ping pong while we still call them both games.
