What franchises started off good/interesting and are meh now?

I skipped through almost all dialog but loved everything else about it.

Halo

Assassin's Creed (technically only one out of 17 Ass Creed games were good lol)

Resident Evil (sans remakes)

Final Fantasy (sans remakes)

Halo. At the least its too sloppy.

Making a polished one of those shouldn't be pulling teeth, and yet here we are.

God of War is in a weird place where like the new combat system on paper is more interesting, but in execution you've given up relevant depth, flow, pacing, and just all around better enemy designs. While maintaining the same mediocrity among most of the bosses i guess, and added some dumb rpg shit that adds nothing of value.

Resident Evil definitely. Every now and then there is a genuine classic in RE2 remake, but the rest of it is like a massive step down from RE1-4 (the numbered ones), ill admit code veronica and 0 were also mid, but that shit still paled in comparison to what classics 1, 2, 3: Nemesis, and 4 are.

Right now Guilty Gear. Plus R and Xrd games were cool, Strive is guilty gear for babies. That might be a first world problem compared to the others, given the floor for a fighting game is a lot higher. But uh, don't mean it aint a drop off.

Decibel the story. It got completely stupid.

Assassins Creed mentions seem hard to believe lol. I haven't played one in ages, just hard to imagine they're even worse than the first game now?

I don't buy it lol.

Legit one of the worst games I've ever played. Definitely a top 10, maybe even top 5.

• Uncharted 1 and 2 were great, 3 was okay, 4 was too cinematic for me with lackluster set pieces. Player loses control of the game way too often.

• Paper Mario (which breaks my heart)
• Pokemon
• Gears of War (liked the concept, but never liked the mechanics)

Video games in general are meh compared to the NES-PS2 days. But Sports and Wrestling games for sure.

Borderlands is a good one....it's so meh now.

Halo has been boring since halo 3.

Sonic was fun for 3 games... But I'm using the word fun very loosely.

Halo was a household name at one point. Sad to see how the series became less and less relevant.

Well I guess that it’s a blessing that I didn’t play the 1st one and just jumped to the 2nd one because to me, FW is a great game with admittedly questionable melee combat mechanics.

hell no the gameplay and graphics and physics are much better than the first one. the story not so good but the side quest are much better and the world itself.

only thing I don't like about the second one is the part were she thinks she needs to do it herself over and over again.

I think black flag was the best one. after that it became the witcher clone.

for me res4 added awesome gameplay to the series but it felt like more of a shooter than horror.

wish they do code veronica remake next.

yeah story was weird but the game itself was much better gameplay wise.

kind of like last of us 1 and 2 lol.

It was nowhere near as good as the Witcher in my opinion.

Would also say Mario's 2D platformers. While I'll still occasionally play New Super Mario Bros games, they just don't have the magic of the first four games.

Because its the best genre to milk their playerbase with mtx. You can also easily gate players with mobs that are much higher level than you, artificially increasing the length of the game. This is what garbage Ubisoft games (seen in FC as well) and mobile devs do nowadays.

I don't think they need to. RE is a popular franchise. Whatever they release, it will sell. When RE4R comes out, its certainly gonna do really well, and its a proper RE game.

I have a lot of hope for RE4, and I agree that no matter it will sell well. Despite that my anticipation is cynical at best.

Each iteration after the first became more and more ridiculous and over the top. The first one was actually a decent GTA rival.

Were you on System Wars when RE4 launched? The game was absolutely huge and won tons of GOTY awards. The game was revolutionary for its time.

being GOTY means shit. all mainstream mediocre games win GOTY. last of us 2 win GOTY yawn!!.

FEAR was released same time and was better in every way.
