RDR. Despite virtually everyone saying things to the contrary it very much is Grand Theft Horse: a poorly executed story, repetitive main-missions and underwhelming side-missions, questionable gunplay, and a large number of piss-poor design choices. Plus, in a very un-GTA move, a surprisingly mediocre soundtrack. Overall still a good and worthwhile experience, but one that should have been much, much better.

PBSnipes

I couldnt agree more if I tried. I got near the end(didnt beat it) before I threw in the towl. You are on point if you ask me. A bittersweet experience in the end.

MGS4 unfortunately, the updated gameplay was too weird and just flat out not fun for me. This is followed by DMC4 and Stuntman Ignition, both of which were decent but crap in the light of their glorious predecessors.

Splinter Cell Double Agent--big fan of the series, but never bothered trying to get passed the level where you are in the gang hideout. Maybe I'll start that game over.

Bioshock--Great beginning, but then I realized how on rails and mundane the gameplay was. Couple that with very louzy shooting mechanics, and the game is probably up there with FF7 as my biggest disappointments of all time--especially so, because I was looking forward to them so much.

Fallout 3

  • touted as having hundreds of different endings? how about 2 or 3
  • horrible plot twist regarding president eden? you betcha
  • horrible ending to main quest that feels rushed and pointless? oh hell ya
  • can't play after ending? awesome
  • able to beat most of the game with a hunting rifle? yep
  • horrible animations, glitches, and other production value failures? might as well have been a last gen title
  • crappy non-VATS controls and AI that make the player dependent on VATS thus rendering the combat stale and repetitive? yep

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. uses Fallout 3 to wipe its ass

/best part of Fallout 3 is nuking megaton, beyond that

edit: hoping that Fallout: New Vegas is better for obvious reasons...

Assassin's Creed. I was completely hyped for this game, one of the few I've bought on first day release. First level, fun. Second level, also fun but it kinda dawned on me that it was more or less the same as the first. Third level, I realised this was the most formulaic, repetitive piece of **** I'd ever spent £40 on. Someone wrote on here the other day saying it should be used as a torture method in the interrogation of terror suspects. That's pretty much bang-on when it comes to this game.

still haven't played the second one. I know it's meant to be better and all, but I'm not exactly rushing to buy it after the letdown of the first.

Silent Hill Homecoming: I expected a Silent Hill title that would rival SH2 in terms of story, symbolism, and characters. Homecoming was just a predictable shallow story filled with cheap scares.

MGS:4 I guess I expected too much of this title. I was looking for this title will would be a great conclusion to the MGS saga or at least Solid Snakes story. I ended up experiencing a game with bad pacing. The story elements that were to tie everything up felt rushed, unnecessary at some points, characters weren't as interesting as past titles. It was like Kojima and Murata just said "F**K it we give up we made a mess with MGS2"

Final Fantasy XIII: Although I did like the ATB system, I didn't care for anything else. The story wasn't interesting what so ever. The cast of characters sucked except for Sazh. Also the gameplay structure got very bland after he 10 hour mark. Run through a very linear path, fight, FMV scene, repeat. Also no game should take 20-25 hours to "open up" especially a RPG title.

jasonharris48
about ff13, i loved the atb system as well but i didn't think all the characters were bad, i liked lightning sazh vanille (she acted like she was 8 but she knew deep down wat was really going on) and snow was all right, some things i about hope really was a turn off but sazh definitely was the most developed.

Resident Evil 5 for me, wasn't suspecting it to be as good as Resident Evil 4 but it falls way short of it. There was no atmosphere for this game for being a horror game, and having a partner really ruins the gaming experience for me especially with the kind of AI it has.

To this day it's still STALKER Clear Sky. No other game came close to that mess in terms of messes. Others would be RE5 and FFXIII. Those games were pretty weak and underwhelming, especially the latter.

MGS4 disappointed me, a lot. It was by no means a bad game, nowhere even close to it. But coming from MGS3, I expected the boss battles and story to be top notch. And in MGS4, boss battles and story were downright terrible. There were 2 boss fights I liked, at best. The rest of them were either god awful or just "average". And the story... ugh. Every single part of the story was littered with plot devices. You couldn't go two minutes without either Nanomachines or the Patriots being mentioned. And they were the answer to EVERY SINGLE QUESTION. Every single one. And the characters were painfully bad. Meryl and Johnny helped create some of the worst scenes in the entire game. Raiden's character was absolutely ruined in MGS4, he became completely unlikable. And let's not even get started on the final cutscene, with the graveyard scene and the wedding dress. Ugh. I mean, aside from the boss battles MGS4 had excellent gameplay by far. But in MGS I expect great boss battles and a story that I'll at least find a little compelling. MGS4 didn't give me either of those.

Alone in the Dark
It sounded so good on paper what with the MacGyver physics and adventuring and details, but I guess they bit off more than they could chew because in practice the game's kind of very clunky and janky with all kinds of dumb design and stupidness in it. It's not all bad, but it's a far cry from what I hoped it would be.

Which is a nice seg into...

Far Cry 2
This too sounded great on paper. But I had not anticipated the ferociously annoying guard jeeps and outposts. Was expecting a lesuirely stroll through the plains of Africa, but it turns out everyone everywhere wants you dead all the time and send homing attack jeeps after you at regular intervals. And only you. There's supposed to be a war between factions, but they're both hunting you down and only you, always. There's no one else in Africa, there's only you and them. The introductory jeep ride with the guy, that's the sort of experience I was looking for. But after that there's nothing but bad company...

Bad Company 2
The game itself is satisfactory and great fun. But with it I got something I did not bargain for. VIP Membership or whatever they're calling it. It is nothing but detrimental and insulting. It serves only to make the game worse, and significantly so. It's not like eight maps is a whole lot to begin with, but thanks to this program only five were available at launch.

I hear ya on that. Sometimes I just won't care for a game, but I will still recognize it as a good game. Braid, however, I felt only was recognized because it looked okay for an indie game. If New Super Mario Bros wii played like Braid, it would be considered the biggest letdown in videogame history.

Also agree with you about bioshock, though I never played number 2 because the first one was so mundane and terrible.

MW2 online ruined the game

BFBC2 IF they can fix the online that game would be good

Killzone2/uncharted2 Diddnt like those games at all i liked the first ones more

gundaicut

I hadn't played BC2 for about a week or two until yesterday. Hadn't noticed anything like this before, but I swear I shot people and it didn't register. One time it might've been because a chainlink fence was blocking the shots, but either way, that should not have happened.

Far Cry 2 - It started out fresh and exciting, the wildfires were so cool...then it became clear the game was nothing but MAJOR repetition and annoyances. :(

FUEL - Great concept on paper, but poorly executed. HORRIBLE soundtrack, and the map was actually TOO big. It could literally take an hour or so to drive from one end to the other, all while seeing lackluster graphics and hearing outdated sound effects. Very underwhelming. (And I know there was a "warp" feature, but when a game advertises itself as the biggest ever map created in a video game, then you should be able to enjoy driving around in it)

RotaryRX7

Oh yeah, I was looking forward to Fuel once upon a time. Sounded like it could be marvelous. But it was fairly evident as soon as they started showing gameplay clips that perhaps it wouldn't be all that... Then I played the demo and promptly forgot about it up until the Steam sale. And...that game's just not very good, anywhere.

If you want to drive around decently sized landscapes I'd instead recommend Baja: Edge of Control. The physics are much, much, much more entertaining. Actually trying to play through the career though is ****ed up. Could really have used an easier difficulty setting than the so called "Easy".

Fable 2. There's so much to do in that game, but none of it is fun. :lol:Guppy507
I loved that game, but this post reminds me of the fantasticidea Peter Molyneux had. I'd say it's about as ingenious as Mass Effect 2's mineral scanning.

Ninja Gaiden 2. The first Ninja Gaiden was my favorite game last gen. NG 2 is not a bad game (expect for horrible camera angles), but the levels, combat, and boss fights where better in the first one. I guess I was expecting some a lot better because of the extra horse power this gen has.

did you guys use a walkthrough or what? honestly braid was ridiculously good the first time you go through it because some of the puzzles later on do get difficult, or did you guys give up after like 10 min and use one? please bro anybody that hasn't used it majority will say braid is one of the best platformers this gen.

MGS4

Way too much exposition for its own good. I know MGS is all about story, but MGS4 just took it to another level, and became monotonous and boring. It was also alarge departure from its gameplay roots. Hated the mission structure also and took me completely out of the experience.

i disagree platformers do have puzzles in them, braid just had alot of them but the way you controlled the character i still think it constitutes as a platformer.

I kept hearing over and over that Metroid games are great and the Metroid Prime series is amazing, so I bought the Trilogy and was bored stiff. I played the first one for a while, but ended up just trading in the set.

Eternal Sonata - It is a good game, but it wasn't the magical adventure i was expecting, no 8.5 for me, but a solid 8.0, maybe even a 7.5, still very fun and all, but, for me, this one was the heavy weight and Valkyria Chronicles was the ok game (i bougth both at the same time), but at the end...well, if you have played VC you know what i mean.

Dead Space - Another good game, but it wasn't the scary game i though, still is a very good action game, but to be honest, i didn't buy it for the action, it had very good scares, but after a while, they were kind of predictible, if it wasn't for the excellent atmosphere, the game would have been RE5.

[QUOTE="FireEmblem74"]gears 2 imo, i loved gears 1 to death but gears 2 was just horrible and is now still barely playable. Vinegar_Strokes
why did you find Gear 2 so horrible. it played the same as the first

i hope you're joking, gears 2 was nothing like gears 1, just because they look similar doesn't equate to equal gameplay.
