Probably Gears of War, one of the Call of Duty 4 and subseqeuently every game after it, Galaxy maybe Uncharted 3 if its big enough
Portal, Bioshock,Starcraft 2, Gears, COD:MW,SMG1+2, Demon's Souls because they were good or popular, and Too Human, Twilight Princess, and GT5 because they flopped.
Uncharted 2.
It marked the beggining of cinematic storytelling and cinematic experience.
Maybe if you started playing video games in 2008.Uncharted 2.
It marked the beggining of cinematic storytelling and cinematic experience.

KOTOR did that.
Uncharted 2.
It marked the beggining of interactive cinematic storytelling and cinematic experience done right.
^This wouldn't be correct either.[QUOTE="tonitorsi"]^This wouldn't be correct either.Uncharted 2.

Then I'll agree to disagree.
There must be a reason why UC2 did it...and was praised to the holy heavens....

Through reasoning, I've found the case to be all about the graphics and scripted events. Given that limiting options in games seems to be the new "edgy" thing to do, it received really high ratings :D.I bet a lot of people will still talk about Crysis and how it was held up as the best looking game for such a long time (even though by then it will look like crap :P).

You forget the part I said interactive cinematic experience. Sure as hell KOTOR didn't have that part :P

KOTOR's lightsaber fights look like they were taken directly from a Star Wars movie, and are much more interactive than any Uncharted 2 explosion/collapsing bridge.

I own the game, and have played it more than enough to know what I'm talking about. You're going to have to indulge me on the "interactive cinematic experience" part. From what I recall, I could interact with many different characters at will in KOTOR, and then have a scene played out to me (I guess that would be the cinematic experience part) that displayed the consequences of my actions. Same goes for other RPG's before KOTOR. Like foxhound_fox said, MGS would probably get the award you personally bestow to U2. It wouldn't suprise me if there was another "cinematic" game before MGS, but didn't become as popular.Well, when all the CoD players grow up they'll talk about how much fun Modern Warfare was when they were eight years old kinda like how a lot of us remember our SNES, N64, PS1, etc :P
So my vote goes to Modern Warfare!
Mass Effect comes to mind. Never played such a mindblowing series.
Uncharted 2 may get nods, but I doubt it has the longevity as a game like Demon's Souls or Mass Effect has becuase it's quite weak on the story (in comparison to Mass Effect which will be known for the story) and didn't really revolutionize anything, just did everything perfectly.

Agreed. Mass Effect is the first game that comes to mind with these kind of threads for me. Uncharted 2 will be remembered for, if anything, bringing an unusual level of polish to action games like that.

MGS 1-3
Final Fantasy 7-10
Silent Hill 2
Fatal Frame 2
God of War 1-2
etc.
Seriously, this has been a pretty common thing in games for years now...
Anyways, as to memorable games this gen. my vote goes to:
Rock Band 3 (It has completely blurred the line between game and real instrument playing)
World of Warcraft (If anything for it's sheer addictiveness)
Dead Space (Only memorable horror game this gen unfortunately...)
Half Life 2 Series (This is just such a phenominal game right here)
Halo Reach (Cause it's freaking Halo)

I disagree psn.
If ya'll think UC2 is all about graphics...then please don't play UC3 :?
Games don't get awarded GOTY 40 times, get to be 6th highest rated game of all time just because of graphics.
If so Crysis would have topped OoT a long time ago.

When it comes to this gen, it shouldn't suprise anyone of that being the case. 2009 was only a good year for cows / hermits owning forums.Mass Effect comes to mind. Never played such a mindblowing series.

It did raised the bar for cinematic story telling, set a benchmark on consoles, and introduced a new form of cinematic interactive gameplay thats not been performed on other games to the level ND does it.....and thats besides doing everyting perfectly like you mentioned. Which is also another thing ND did flawlessly.
I dont think anyody gives UC2 this kind of credit. :|
I know ND may not have a record like Bioware, but they created a game that imo...eclipses may other games this generation.
This also add in Donkey Kong Country Returns. Also for bad reasons add in Lair and Too Human because they are bad.Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 and The Last Guardian are the two I think will be most well-remembered.

I remember my first video game on the Intellevision. I was just filled with so much wonderment and curiosity when I was able to interact with what happened on my television screen
I also remember playing my very first 3D game. It was on the N64. Again, I was filled with a large amount of wonderment when I could navigate a big world in all three demensions
And now, I have played Super Mario Galaxy 2. It's the very first time since my first play session withthe N64 that I have regained this child like sense of wonderment. It's a certain sense that this isn't merely a company constructing a product for you, but an experience so magical and seemlessly perfect that the thought that a group of humans created such a thing seems unlikely. It's an entity of pure joy and I get lost in it
So, if anything, Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be THE memory of this generation for me. It gave me that glorious undefinable feeling I have only felt twice before as a gamer
I agree for me it was Super Mario Bros., Orarina of Time (First full 3D game I played on the N64), and Super Mario Galaxy 2.I remember my first video game on the Intellevision. Pikminmaniac
There's plenty.
Of course, there are many others that I'm leaving out. Needless to say this generation will never be remembered for one single game.
