Well since this generation isn't over yet, I'll throw my vote towards Duke Nukem Forever. Probably for the same reason DN3D was such a big part of that generation. That and the whole DNF jokes that were around for the last 10 years. Just when all hope was abandoned, out of the darkness comes Duke :D
Call of Duty will probably be remembered also. You can't have that many players of a series out there and it not be remembered for years to come.
- Braid. As far as the "games as art" debate goes, this game seriously pushed the envelope on what gaming can truly aspire to.

Crysis
GTA4 (Like it or hate it)
RDR (again, like it or hate it)
Mass Effect series
Demon's Souls (Though I'll never understand why)
StarCraft II
Halo 3/Reach
SMG series
Gears series
Dragon Age
Portal
Call of Duty 4 and its ilk (unfortunately)
Heavy Rain
Uncharted is a flash in the pan. Once some other series does it better, no one will care.
hmmmmm.... DKCR The Galaxy games Skyward Sword (it is Zelda) The Last Guardian Uncharted 2 I guess Mass Effect 2 Starcraft 2 CoD 4 Gears Duke NukemMaybe on System Wars but everywhere else they got good scores Twilight Pricess was even the highest rated game of 2006 and won multiple GOTY awards.Forever For bad reasons: GT5, Twilight Princess, Epic Mickey?, Lair, Too human, Haze, Activision:Pgamefan67
Mass Effect for being the best epic sci-fi since Star Wars.
WoW for entertaining me for thousands of hours (I'd imagine it'll still be popular anyway).
Pc games have no 'gen' stuff. They live forever. Generation bull$hit is something for the console peasants.
Many years from now a game will flop on SW and people will say:
''WORST FLOP IN HISTORY!!!!''
''No, remember GT5?''
''OH YEAH, FLOPTURISMO 5 AAAHAHAHAHA''
This thread isn't about what you guys will remember. It's about what people in general will remember about the gen. In that case, it's going to be one of the modern warfares because that series was just addicting to so many people and it was the series that made the whole XP aspect of the FPS for this gen popular. Other than that, this gen is not over yet. I feel that one of the Mass Effects and Uncharted will be the most talked about amongst gamers who actually know the good games.
Maybe on System Wars but everywhere else they got good scores Twilight Pricess was even the highest rated game of 2006 and won multiple GOTY awards. Well, Im only speaking about System Wars in general, although a case can still be made for both games.[QUOTE="gamefan67"]hmmmmm.... I can't think of any besides Star Craft 2, Witcher. I would like to say Alan Wake and Deadly Premonition (sadly they probably won't be remembered though except to Stephen King and David Lynch fans)
for Consoles? Red Dead Redemption/MGS4/Galaxy 1/2 and perhaps FFversus13 if its good
for PC? Minecraft/Starcraft 2/Diablo 3/Portal 2/TF2 and Half life 3 if it ever comes out
this right here. also, call of duty 4 since it started the way the series works now (perks, attachments, killstreaks)Probably Gears, Mass Effect and Uncharted series.
PAL360
Certainly not a lot of games to come out this gen.[QUOTE="jasonharris48"]
[QUOTE="rawr89"]
certainly NOT Red Dead.
rawr89
doesn't change the fact that Red Dead will soon be forgotten once 2011 starts.
Red dead had terrible gameplay, but a very good story with decent characters, im pretty sure people will remember it for that, hopefully not just "GTA with horses"

Oh well I guess. I'll remember it as one of the few games I picked up this year lol. Although personally I liked the game it's one of my favorite titles from Rock Star.Mass Effect Trilogy - Finishing a trilogy using a character you created is just plain epic.
Red Dead:Redemption - Despite being somewhat disappointed in the game myself, I think it got the western setting down right.
Metal Gear Solid 4 - PS3 fanboys can barely go an entire thread without mentioning it
Uncharted 2 - Again, PS3 fanboys can barely go an entire thread without mentioning it
Assassins Creed 2 - Finally lived up to the potential shown in the original game
Fallout 3 - Successfully rebooted an old RPG series
Call of Duty 4,MW2 and 5 - Built up a massive gamerbase and a dedicated online community.
World of Warcraft - Made MMOs mainstream and will probably still be adding expansion packs
this is my personal list(games i will for sure look back and smile about the time i had with them)
1. uncharted 2-i beat it over 4 days, couldn't put it down. the pacing is masterful, the polish is god like.
2. assassin's creed 2- my favorite story in a video game this gen when combined wit ac1 and brotherhood. the story was made for my tastes.
3. orange box- i never played half life 2 before so this game was amazing to me.
4. mario galaxy 1(havent played 2)- you just felt like a kid again, this made me realize why i loved gaming
5. call of duty 4- i hate the series now but this game revolutionized online gaming, and i put tons of hours into it. the campaign was good too.
6. metal gear solid 4- the end to solid snakes story, not better than mgs3 but still a masterpiece in storytelling
7. bioshock- the atmosphere in this game is masterful.
8. fifa series- ive played fifa 09-11 for countless hours, bang for your buck
9. demon's souls- too hard for me, but i can see how people love this game
COD comes to mind. Although I don't like the series, its extremely successful and will be talked about by the COD fanboys years from now.
Uncharted. Its the sixth highest rated game of all time, and rightfully so IMO.
BioShock. I never played it, but I heard its a great game. Starcraft II. Just like the first Starcraft, this game will be played forever.
Mass Effect. Blew my mind.
Portal/L4D. Valve is a great dev, and these games show it.
not for good reasons but CoD.
as for the good memories Mass Effect, Uncharted, Gears and Portal come to mind.

Uncharted 2.
It marked the beggining of cinematic storytelling and cinematic experience.

KOTOR did that.
think he meant doing it well....very well...........

May I add in these
Little Big Planet - Creativity at its best for a console game.
God of War 3 - The brutality and its epicness of it will be remembered.
Dead Space - The new 'resident evil' for me this gen.
FF13 - May not be the best, the story was thoughtful if you read up about it, but the same thing with other FF's, they will all be compared.
Crysis - Raising the bar on technology and gaming.
Can't argue with this list.
