Vanquish. There were times that I would forget that I wasn't in a actual real life space colony - it's environment and universe were that believable.

The have itself was fantastic, but the overall world design and atmosphere felt stale and lifeless. Had it been better, I think the game would have been more well-received.
Assassin's Creed
Mass Effect

Not sure if serious...
Homeworld 1 and 2. Pity that they haven't expanded them much, if at all, over the past decade.
Barbariser
Nice to see someone mention those games. Those are second place on my list, only beaten by Alpha Centauri. Homeworld has a great universe indeed and unlike most game universes, I actually cared for what was going on.
Actully i think mortal kombat its the most random ass game in the world
first it has ningas (sub zero, scropion.) (ok its set in asia)
You have monsters!!
then!!
you have millitary
actor
god of thunder
Cyborgs!!!!!!!!!!
I would say Mass Effect but they really don't utilize the universe. It's like this; you got the whole universe in the game, u can go to amazing planets with strange cities and creatures but you end up going to some boring mine or factory on some rocky planet with nothing interesting on it. I don't understand u got the whole flippin universe! Y Can't I go to cool places?? Like there is this city with like 295,000,000,000 people capital of the qluninians but instead I go to like the moon or something... :x
The Fallout universe is crazy and special. I love the tone they go for.
But, I think Mass Effect might beat it out. It's like they took Star Trek and a non-existent version of Star Wars that doesn't suck and melded them together.
Mass Effect.
There's also Half-Life or Star Wars.
Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines. But that's not really fair since it has the World of Darkness lore to stand on. Almost forgot about Oddworld, that's my favourite videogame-exclusive universe.

That too.

Ha, I forgot about Fallout for a moment there. Yeah, that one's great too.

eh
Elder scrols
Ace combat (prior to them dropping them dropping the alternate one :( i loved that place to death really fleshed out even tho it was kinda mirror image of ours)
Portal/Half life
Fallout
those 4 really spring to my mind Mass effect and MGS are notable mentions.

warhammer universe sucks in videogame form
Dawn of War wants a word with you Warhammre 40k has hands down the best universe out of any sci-fi game, movie, or book franchise. It has the deepest lore, the most character, and the best atmosphere out there. It's true that most games in the franchise haven't really captured the full awesome, but a few have been pretty good... Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels, and Dawn of War, for instance. Space Marine looks like it's going to be great. Please Log In to post.
