Super Mario 64.
Sure, a lot of games have impressed me this generation, but when I first played SM64 at Wal-Mart back in '96 I was rendered speechless.
Gears2, halo 3, viva pinata, fable 2, fallout 3 on 360, chrysis, left 4 dead on 360, braid, geometry wars, all halos, gears, fable, farcry 2 on 360, bioshock on 360, soulcaliber 4 on 360, gearsnaydaslayer
for me...
Rad Racer for NES... the music....the graphics...the SPEED!!!
Donkey Kong Country, Pilot-wings, Star Fox for the SNES
Colony Wars and a bunch of other Playstation one games...
Madden 2001 for the launch of the PS2..... also GOW2
GT5P, Fight Night Round 3, Motorstorm (part 2 as well), MLB The Show 08 (imo..the most realistic looking/playing sports game I've ever seen) for the PS3
I know I'm forgetting some:?
Max Payne back in 2001. When I started the game, I was like holy crap. I made the similar reaction while playing Max Payne 2.
Far Cry
Crysis
Colin McRae DiRT
GTA 4 (on PC)
Shenmue
Oblivion
Morrowind
Max payne
Doom 3
Pretty much any of the Total War series.
Freespace 2
could go on and on there were a ton of games that knocked my socks off (and my computer's) when they came out.
I'm surprised at the amount of people saying Oblivion. The game was always a bit on the ugly side, especially the ground which was obnoxiously low-resolution and blurry 30 feet away.GodLovesDeadIt was the first game to give you a line of sight that far. And literally no PC could play it at full settings when it came out. At the time no other game could hold a candle to it graphically. Also one of the first games to support multiple cores.

Uh, you're a little off bud. My mid-range PC played it with high settings EASILY the day of its release. A high-end PC would have teared it to complete shreds. It's also not the first game with a long view distance.

Top card was like the 7800 and so kill me now if you could actually be able to play it on that over 11fps with everything turned on/up (grass shadows, sliders, HDR).
wacerace64 i was just talking it about the other day i said it on gametrailers that, when the game was first released in 96 i played it and that **** looked crazy back then
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43786.html
then gametrailers lol actually did best games vault video on link and the links about waverace64 talking about how it owned
they had to of read what i said.
FFVIII CGI was amazing, to bad the game itself was crap.
SotC was probably the best looking PS2 game but Okami and DQVIII are the ones that will never age.
I still think the Sonic games on the Genesis look great but I don't think they're impressive.
