It came out in 2015 but it felt like it was 2011. I also agree it's underrated Avalanche studios best game IMO.
Avalanche best game was just cause 2.
I normally disliked open world games especially urban open world games but JC2 was pretty good.

@ghosts4ever: Good game, for sure.
Problem with it (and pretty much every game they make), no major gameplay shift. Do the same shit, and it's fun, but they expected you do the the same shit, until the end.
Get tools, toys to play with. But never enough to justify the game length.
And Just Cause 2 basically demands you do % map to progress.

JC2 was ok the series as a whole is kinda meh for me it's fun blowing shit up but afterawhile it gets a little old.
Bioshock 2. It was at least as good as the original, but when it came out, people were just "meh".
Bioshock strength was story and atmosphere.
gameplay was meh.
Bioshock 1 had amazing storyline with one of the best villain ever.
Bioshock 2 have same setting but inferior story and far inferior villain.
Everything was good in bio1 and bio2. Its time to accept these two games as masterpieces from the 7th gen.

@hardwenzen: Bioshock 2 was getting shat on before it was even released.
Jim the blubber hack, Sterling decrying it a shitty cash in.
Probably the best game of the lot.
I think both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West are both underrated. I've been seeing a lot of people saying Horizon games are trash. To me they are the exact opposite. They have a great storyline, breathtaking visuals and gameplay. So I don't know why this game gets soo much hate!

Doesn't matter if Bioshock 1 was better. These were both amazing, and Bio2 was extremely underrated. The only negative that game had is a useless multiplayer mode. Instead, they could've focused more on the campaign and add more things to it. Both stories surprised me, and i liked them a good bunch.
By "underrated" do you mean games I or others think are good but were panned by critics? Or games that were well-received but did not sell well?
Just off the top of my head I'd say the Tomb Raider reboots. They aren't my favorite games, not by a long shot, but I think the reboot series as a whole was pretty damn excellent. It blended a good mix of cinematic moments with somewhat open-ended gameplay (you could explore a bit) and decent action.
I mean, in a world of movie games, the Tomb Raider reboots are the least "movie".
They also got a lot of flack for showcasing a more feminist-forward Lara Croft, but tbh I sort of enjoyed her evolution. She started as this smart, athletic, but naive college chick or whatever on a boat, washed up on an island, and then evolved into this murderous angel of death. I think all the bros complaing about her personality or lack of ginormous tits kind of brought the score and reception down into lukewarm territory.
The game did have some issues, I'm not going to sit here and say it deserves a high score, but they are all easily overlooked imo.
I’ve played a few hours of Ghostwire Tokyo and right now I would say it’s underrated but I’ll reserve my judgement for when I beat it.
Yeah, talk about a game that came and went. It had a fair amount of hype behind it as well. By all accounts it sounded like a pretty good game.
@Litchie
New Super Mario Bros. U IS underrated. It’s one of the best 2D platformers of all time, but people were like, “Meh. Another “New” Super Mario game. Same ol’, same ol’”.
No, doofus. It’s one of the best 2D platformers ever with some of the best 2D level design you’ve ever played, but “Something something same art style” (which is also unfair).
So yeah, Super Mario is underrated in that case.
I “rate” it as one of the best platformers ever made, but many “rated” it as a “run-of-the-mill” Mario game, whatever the hell that means.

Thanks for clarifying. I just thought the game sold well and was talked about fondly, so I personally didn't see how it would be called underrated. Was re-released on Switch too, where it got more sales and praise. Guess I missed the haters..
Now, DK: Tropical Freeze is a Nintendo platformer I'd consider more underrated. Sold badly, got a 6/10 on GameSpot, was talked about very little. Such a fantastic game definitely deserved more. Hopefully it got the sales it deserved from the Switch re-release.
@kvallyx: My man you need to stick to it. Sekiro is awesome. I played it in 2019, gave up after a day, came back after playing Demon's Souls, DS3 and DS1... spent months beating it but in the end I platinumed it and completed my first no death run in 5 hours

It kicks my ass. 🤷♂️ I can try again though.
@Litchie: Yeah, that DK review was awful. Gamespot gave a mea culpa with a 9/10 for the Switch version, though. Meanwhile, NSMBU went from 8.5 to 7.0 between the Wii U and Switch versions.

Oh yeah, forgot about that.
NSMBU was indeed a fine game. The artstyle, while stale/boring, still wouldn't call it bad. Looks nice enough, and the gameplay was great, so who cares. Only thing I can fault the game for that matters to me is the price Nintendo put on it. You don't re-release games with minimal to no updates for new game price. Especially to customers that already paid that on your abandoned console.. *grumble.
I still think the first NSMB (DS) is the best one, but I've enjoyed them all. NSMB2 (3DS) the least.
