Atari 2600 - was born into owning that shit, but my bro got it for Combat I believe.

NES - Super Mario Bros, Ninja Gaiden, Double Dragon 2, Punch Out, Zelda (so many games, I was a bit late getting one)

Genesis - Mortal Kombat, Sonic 2, Phantasy Star 4

SNES - Final Fantasy 4, Super Mario World, Link to the Past

PS1 - Final Fantasy 7

N64 - Ocarina of Time

Dreamcast - Soul Calibur

PS2 - Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2

Xbox - Ninja Gaiden

Gamecube - Metroid Prime

360 - New gen hype, got it at launch. Bought a bunch of games right off the bat, but nothing in particular grabbed my attention... in the back of my mind I was waiting for Ninja Gaiden 2.

PS3 - MGS4, FFXIII... funny how that shit turned out.

Wii - Metroid Prime 3

WiiU - Bought it with NSMBU, but really just bought it for the inevitable Nintendo support in general.

PS4 - Ground Zeroes. More specifically, I just wanted the best version of MGSV, but jumped on the bandwagon early.

---

I won't go over every GPU purchase. More often than not I just needed to upgrade, not because of one particular game. Most recently I bought a 970 about two weeks ago and just ordered another one about an hour ago. Just for the sake of overkill.

I believe my first 3D accelerated card was a 3DFX Voodoo 2 (with Quake).

I started on consoles with the Sega Master System 2 and I've been using computers since the Commodore 64.

I after I was unable to run the old Doom 3.5 inch floppy shareware we upgraded my 486 40MHz, doubled the RAM from 4mb to 8mb, and added a 500mb HDD to my 200mb HDD my computer came with. I was set.

Most consoles I had when I was younger I got through my brother, from the NES to Master System, Genesis, TurboGrafx. The first console I'd ever asked my parents for was an SNES, which they got me for Christmas, which I really didn't have any idea it was out until one day we were shopping and me and my sister saw the demo on display in a department store and we were hooked and we were like "get us one". They did .Only game we got to try before getting it was Super Mario World but it was enough to sell us on it.

When I started gaming, I already had Atari console at my home. Then owned couple of consoles for different games. Mainly for Street Fighter, Mario and Contra. Used to play Captain Majid a lot.

In 2000 or 2001 (can't remember correctly), I owned my first PC and there was already Need for Speed 2 installed on it. Played it a lot, then one day I saw CD of this game called "Max Payne" in a store in 2001. It looked pretty cool. I also owned Duke Nuken 3D and it's CD had a trailer for upcoming games. Never paid attention to that trailer folder before, until I saw Max Payne in store.

One of these trailers was of Max Payne, the game that I saw earlier in store. Went out and bought that. I soon realized that my PC can't handle it on decent frame rates and settings. Then my father brought, first gaming PC for me and I am gaming on PC since then. Can't remember the name of video card that it had but the first video card that I bought myself was ATI Radeon 92xx series.

Bought nVIDIA 6200 graphics card in 2005 to play Battlefield: Vietnam and Sega Rally Revo which required Pixel shader 2.0 and my Radeon card was PS 1.1. Later switched to newer cards to play Crysis, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space etc. Switched to 9600 in 2009, and it served me well for 4 years. Also owned PS3 for few years for MGS4, Uncharted 2 etc but later sold it.

Warcraft 2 really made me take notice of the scene. I'd say Tomb Raider was the game that got me involved in the pc scene. As far as builds and graphics cards and whatnot? Strangely it was maybe moreso the magazines of the time. It is funny that people think that gamers today only care about "pixels" when back then the Voodoo ads and articles specifically highlighted exactly what the card was doing--it'd literally be a zoomed in shot of pixels.

One of the best eras of innovation in the entire industry was when the N64, Playstation, and the pc scene was up and coming.

o the PC side, oddly enough, i havent actually bought any hardware for a specific game. when games came out i had the hardware to deliver.

that said when the oculus arrives i suspect games like elite dangerous are going to make it very temping for me to upgrade. i dont think my 780M will be able to deliver a smooth experience with the demands of oculus (though i hope im wrong on that). star citizen will also force my had i suspect.

its very rarely been only one game that tempted me to get a console. the only ones i can think of are windwaker for the gamecube and X for the wiiu.

Saturn

I can't remember. It was either a Bday or Xmas gift.

Dreamcast

I can't remember, but I got it for Xmas with Sonic Adventure, Toy Commander, Soul Calibur and HOTD 2.

PS2

The Dreamcast kicked the bucket in 2001, so I wanted one for Xmas. I got Timesplitters, GTA3, Crazy Taxi, Robot Wars.

Gamecube

I wanted one in 2003 because my Dreamcast wasn't playing games that great (Mostly because of Sonic Adventure 2). I got SA2, Sonic Mega Collection, Die Hard, Godzilla and splinter cell.

Xbox 360

I just got it because it was the first of the new consoles to get released. I got Need For Speed Most wanted, Quake 4, PD0 and COD2.

Wii

I got it because of the virtual console and because it was different. I got Zelda and Red Steel with it.

Gameboy

I was on holiday and saw it in a shop. I got Super Mario Land and another Mario (Can't remember which) with it.

Gameboy Advance

I was at the airport (Delayed for hours) so my mum bought me it with a game called creatures...

Gameboy Advance SP (Tribal)

I was on holiday and saw it a shop and my mum bought me it.

Nintendo DS

I was bored one day and decided to go and buy one. I got SM64 DS with it.

Nintendo DS Lite

I just bought it because it looked better and had a brighter screen.

PSP

I wanted this because of it's power and features + the games. I got Ridge Racer with it.

Nintendo 3DS

It was a new Nintendo handheld so I got it at launch with Rayman 3D and Ridge Racer 3D.

Thinking back on it, I don't think I've ever actually bought a console because I preferred the games on it, which may sound weird. It was always for other reasons... The only game that has probably influenced a console purchase (Xbone) is Halo, but again, the main reason that it is my main console is because of the controller, not the game. Having Halo is just a bonus.

Same goes for last gen. I started out with a 360 (because I was a fan of the original Xbox) but switched to PS3 because of the reliability.

First time I just wanted to play games, didn't know much more than that. Got a PS1 with Need for Speed 2, played it a lot before I got GTA. But the PS1 ended up having tons of great games. And so did the PS2.

Bought the Gamecube just for Resident Evil Remake and zero.

Bought the PS3 because of exclusives, and movies. Did a great job as a media player aswell.

Bought a laptop with a GT240m GPU to run games and movies on the TV, it did it's job.

Upgraded to a stationary PC with a GTX550 ti, but upgraded to the GTX670 4GB which I have now, mainly because of GTA 4 with mods, and Far Cry 3. I play most multiplats on PC.

Bought the PS4 early because of GTA5, but more great games are on it's way.

I built a PC for Crysis in 2007. I wanted one for years and years before but the financials were not there. I had a laptop capable of gaming in 2006.

For my consoles I've always had them as long as I can remember. Got a PS1 in 1995 and got a PS2 in 2001, Xbox for Halo 2 in 2004, Xbox 360 in 2008 for GTA IV, PS3 when it hit $399, PS4 on launch, and Xbox One when it hit $350.
