Title ^^^

Mine is The Order 1886. Everything about it was up my alley when it comes to environment, style but the negative reviews and forum talk made me avoid it like the plague. I still want to try it out later when its dirty cheap.

how bout u?

For the sake of it, lets also do the question in reverse: Was there any game you werent interested in but you ended up buying due to good critical and community reception?

I will say The Witcher 3. The 1st game was literally sh*t and the second was... ok so I wasnt really that interested in the third but thankfully I bought it and enjoyed every second of it. I also wasnt supposed to buy MGS V day 1. Even though I'm a MGS fan, after playing Peace Walker HD I was kinda full of MGS for the time being but the 10/10 it received made me buy it day 1. Good game but a disappointing MGS game

So you rent games before you buy them? How do you know if you like a game before you buy it?

So far, just The Order: 1886. I just rent it from Redbox and left it alone for good. I'll also say, Escape from Dead Island, I heard it was very bad.

Final Fantasy XIII (although I did play it at a friends house).

Assassins Creed III.

In terms of the opposite: Final Fantasy XII. Back in 2006-07, everyone I knew hated it. But as time went on that perception changed and then I gave it a shot. Turns out it's one of my favorites in the franchise.

The only example I can think of is Aliens:Colonial Marines.

For the most part I ignore reviews outside of checking whether or not the game is completely broken like the aforementioned example. There have been plenty of games that I have adored that were critically panned.

@Vatusus: Alien Isolation and Evolved. I canceled both of those pre-orders. Both games did not seem like it was worth $60. Same thing with FlopClub and The Border 1886. finally got the PS4 version of FlopClub and it's an ok racer and looks beautiful, but still isn't on the same level as Forza 6 or FH2.

Last one was probably Aliens: Colonial Marines, but not really because of feedback. I was interested in it because naturally an Aliens game, but also remember the early preview gameplay demo really excited for it. Then when the gameplay from various sites started leaking in before the launch I lost interest. And my decision was validated like minutes after launch when the reviews started pouring in.

@Vatusus:
1) Didn't buy Destiny, but I might once the Taken King set comes down in price, if I'm not into something else by then.

2) Did buy ES: Oblivion due to reviews and thought it sucked. I like RPGs too, but ES:O has terrible controls.

I just watch a trailer or read an article.

If i like it , i buy it.

If i don't like , i don't.

So you read an article made by somebody else or you watch a trailer made by somebody else and like the game based on what you are told or shown. Yeah, you're really making all the decisions, man. Totally different from looking at reviews. You rebel.

I dont think none so far, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse received very mixed reviews, but i bought it at regular price and loved it, was a great coop experience and was a good challenge to play by myself. Devils Third got negative reviews, but ill probably still play it once the price drops just to see how bad it is.

Honestly the only game that comes to mind is a game which was released fairly recently: Batmang: Arkham Kuhnight

I had actually been somewhat on the fence with the game before it was released. I was getting it mainly due to how much I enjoyed Asylum and City. But I kept hearing how the game constantly forces you into the batmobile on top of Batman's no killing rule more or less being a joke this time around. Just all the design flaws I kept hearing about from opinions I tend to trust turned me off from wanting to play it.

I do plan on getting around to it eventually, but it'a certainly not a priority.

Never happened. I know my taste so I can guess whether I would enjoy the game or not. Sure sometimes I'm wrong but it may have happen about five time in my life and out of those five times most were highly acclaimed games.

Lair

Haze

Red Steel

There are lots of games that get good reviews, that i find should've been rated lower, so if a game gets bad reviews (< 70% )I figure it must really be terrible and so I tend to avoid it, unless by some strange circumstance I've played it before and and enjoyed it.

Well , i don't back down from a game just by the low reviews or bad reception it got.

Neverdead is a low score game , but i like it more then Fear 3.

Thief (2014)

Without fail, every thread about game reviews and media HAS to have comments like " I don't need reviews to tell me if a game is good or not. I'm a big boy now !"

Give yourselves a cookie guys. You deserve it.

Honestly the most recent one was Lost Planet 2, I enjoyed the multi player tons on the original and 2 wasn't as good and got worse reviews but those issues seemed to be geared towards the console versions while the PC version moved much nicer and when I did finally get it I had tons of fun and decided not to listen anymore. Sadly Lost Planet 3 is what it is.

@Vatusus: Nothing... I'm pretty good a gauging what I will like. I don't let bad reviews sway my opinion and I have yet to be disappointed.

I am fortunate that any game that I am interested in purchasing never turns out to receive negative fan or critical reception. I hope it stays that way.

Can't remember, this isn't something very common for me.

I suppose that I will get something I'm interested in regardless of what others say or think.

I can think more on the opposite. When reviews basically hype a game, I get it, and ends up being something I don't fully enjoy.

Aliens: Colonial Marines

007: Legends (damn shame, because Eurocom made some of the best Bond FPS with TWINE 64, Console versions of Nightfire, and the Goldeneye remake)
