PC gamers: I don't know what I like but I can tell you I play it in higher resolution than whatever it is you're talking about.

I've played and own both ryse and the order. The order was pure trash. Ryse was pretty good.

Well that's interesting. I own both PS4 and X1 and have not played The Order because it just doesn't look right for me but I have played Ryse and it was utterly absymal, one of the few games I bought full price that I couldn't bring myself to finish.

I am envious of anyone who thinks Ryse was 'pretty good' if my expectations were that low I would get a lot more out of my games. Yeah, it's fair to say I'm jealous.

I find them both to be enjoyable, albeit very simplistic, games in their respective genres. I like Ryse a bit more do to the setting and the fact that it has a bit more meat to the overall package because of the co op.

As for which has more gameplay, I'd Ryse simply because there are far less walking and talking segments than in The Order. They're two games that I'd love to see sequels build and improve upon, but it seems like that won't happen for Ryse. :(

And yes Zass, I'd say Ryse is worth picking up for $20 if you're a fan of that time period. Keep in mind though, that the co op is online only and it's essentially Horde Mode.

A tech demo has more gameplay than Ryse and you're allowed to press more than X to insta win.

Haven't played The Order but Ryse has multiplayer and The Order doesn't, so Ryse automatically wins in the gameplay/content department

5 > 4

Ryse is a launch game lol (big win for THe ORder LMAO)

Ryse is also from a damn fine AAA dev studio. The Order is from a dev team how had only worked on PSP games, not even Ps3 or Vita, just PSP.

Big win for The Order indeed sir.

Ryse has gameplay consistently, it tries to have this bullshit metagame out of the simon says hit this button, but it's lame. In theory it gets the casual audience to the end of the game, and gives the enthusiast player what they want from a satisfaction standpoint. In practice it makes the game overly simplistic and functional, but devoid of any actual depth or satisfaction beyond basic game feel, and oh man that dude got my sword in his throat.

It's just more cinematic and straight forward than what Crytek used to be. Far Cry, Crysis, and Warhead offered a level of freedom we don't see in FPS's today, with these big sandboxes, and game mechanics that allowed for some dope on the fly ass kicking. Without fault? **** no they had the trigun, the aliens, and at times some really questionable level design that made the game feel more half baked for a level than well put together. But the overall experience was something forward thinking, progressive, and on their best day (Warhead) brilliant. Ryse on the flip side is vanilla, a pleasant spectacle on a visual level, and sure I can see it being fun on a very basic level (because again sword through the throat), but there is no rich layer to the gameplay that'll stick with you, have you thinking, have you experimenting, make you feel like you have something to learn. You knew everything you needed to know about the gameplay in the tutorial.

Haven't played The Order, my understanding from watching it is that it's a pretty generic tps (as generic as Ryse is a beat em up), but it has Max Payne 3's level of intrusive ass cutscenes that ruin the gameflow. Oh and the lycan fights are this bullshit QTE fest, instead of what should and could have been boss fights. Way to go video game industry.

Third person shooters seem to be unable to create good boss fights.

Well, aside from Vanquish that is.

Resident Evil 4 had good boss fights, the Metal Gear games have had great boss fights, The Evil Within has good boss fights, etc.

Larger thing isn't so much the genre's fault, clearly good boss fights can happen, it's more so that western developers suck at and have always sucked at making good bosses. Some rare exceptions aside (like Santa Monica and Retro Studios), boss fights were routinely better done by Japanese developers.

well it was a launch game, IDK how you had high expectations. I expected a 5-6 but felt like I got a solid 8 out of it. It was short, but it was pretty, challenging, had good combat, and a good story, and I love the whole roman era as well so it was nice to get a game to match the movies and TV shows finally. We really haven't had a good game in that era that wasn't a RTS. Not only that, but one of the bets things came later via DLC, co-op survival mode. it was amazingly fun and difficult, I think the best Me and my friend did was almost 50 minutes.

Ryse was actually pretty damn good, and I honestly didn't expect that. Played it on the PC and got it cheaper than console folks but maxed out it's one of the best looking games I've ever seen. The combat is fun (although does at some point get repetitive), you don't waste too much time in cutscenes, and the levels are very fun to play through with a nice mix of gameplay. There was even some surprises like fighting the barbarian dudes to save your comrades.

Heck, I even played the MP a bit which tries to have some light RPG progression stuff thrown in. Not a great game, but I enjoyed it for the time it lasted.

The Order...no idea...but I have watched a few streams and it doesn't look very good.

@Animal-Mother: oh absolutely! As you and I have talked about many times, the only one who matters at the end of the day is you and your gaming likes and dislikes... I do think that we have become somewhat of a group of "easy suckers" though... We continue seeing the AAA market stagnate with ideas and experiences but we still clamor behind mediocrity, because we believe highly orchestrated marketing hype.... By your own admission, the order was not a great game, why send a positive message on the backs of your hard earned money, when you could do what freedomfreak did and buy used or even you did with a free exchange?

I simply worry about sending a message that "we want more" mediocrity when these past few years it has become painfully apparent we need new ideas.

Ultimately though, you are right... Not my money to spend for someone else.

Ryse has co-op, way more enemies on screen, and more open areas than The Order. Also, Rome is an infinitely prettier setting than the ugly, drab 1866 England portrayed in The Order. Oh yeah and **** black bars, lol.

"more" gameplay? Ryse.

Which is a better game? ....probably The Order.
The reason being that when The Order gets going in some of it's better fights it feels like Gears of War which is both great and disheartening. Disheartening in the sense that it makes you wish for more of that high action exhilaration that Gears was overflowing with rather than the 'hey let's look at this photo that shows us absolutely nothing of any meaning whatsoever!'

@Snugenz: Ahhh... We'll, much obliged. I think @Animal-Mother: is ultimately right about gamer choice. We're not deciding between say, a pharmaceutical that could cure cancer here, we're talking about how to piss our time away at our own selfish desires, so in that respect I don't have an opinion on what one man chooses to play at the end of the day...

But we often acknowledge a lessening of our (dedicated invested gamers) impact on the industry, but we definitely have an ace in the hole with what trends we choose to support or let drift away with how we buy games... Game companies know it and that's why they market the way they do. They'll preach till they're blue in the face that the next assassins creed is *ALL NEW! * AND *BUILT FROM THE GROUND UP!* Buzz words to get us to buy the same exact game every year... I'm admittedly a former sucker. But no more.

I don't have anything against the order, I'll probably play it, but at 60 large, despite it being widely reported that the game suffers in some very key areas, I think too highly of my money and the efforts in other areas of the hobby to simply buy it because it's a new big budget AAA with a big marketing push.

Gamers, please show some level of self respect. These games are trash and should be treated as such. Send a clear message that this is not exceptable. I have not purchased Ryse and won't till it is under $10 digitally. That is what it is worth.

It's acceptable bud....acceptable. but yea, The Order is basically Ryse, if it were bad. There's absolutely no way a longer game with more gameplay elements and an online component should have been outscored by the order lol. Especially they wee reviewed by the same guy.

rts not like Ryse is based in Sweden or anything with a sexually confused main character and an inferiority complex that causes him to reach a little too hard to prove he matters, or something lol.

We have enough "open world" games these days most of which amount to offline MMO's laden with fetch quests and an over abundance of inventory management. I don't mind a streamlined cinematic experience every once in a while, get the sand out of your gyenies.
