What Has Sony Introduced to the Online Space That They Haven't Copied From MS?

Xbox LIVE has been a service since 2002, so Sony has had 8 years to improve/surpass Xbox LIVE yet year after year all they do is play follow the leader and wait for Microsoft to innovate the online space. I can't think of a single innovation Sony has made, in fact, there are still features the PSN lacks or have just recently added.

Dedicated Servers on Consoles. Open Network/ Non-Restricted Network (Valve loves PSN because Sony doesn't mandate what goes into there game Ex. you don't have to have cross game invites if you don't want it in your game yet some games do).Nonstop-Madness

I can think of a few things Sony have openly ripped off of Microsoft;

- Achievements/Gamerscore

- Gamercards

- Recent Player List

- Reputation System

- Marketplace ratings

- Zune streaming service

- Xbox Originals

- Retail game store

- In-game Guide ...and more..KittenWishes

MS weren't the first to do any of those things except Zune Streaming Service.

Well they have Home even though its a failure IMO and a Non restricted network.

I can think of a few things Sony have openly ripped off of Microsoft;

That is massively wrong. PS1 games were available on the Store before Xbox Originals and support hasn't been dropped. Remote Play, unlimited free accounts, etc.

THe whole point of topic is who did it first 360 or PS3. So according to that rule PS3 did it. I mean if you not going to follow your own rule then why make it.

last time i was on home was way back at launch even at that me and my mates just kinda used it as an extended chatroom tbh nothing else really at that time it was pretty basic there werent even spaces for companies yet that tells you how long ago it is.To an extent XBL was later to the party with the whole avatar idea as it was 2 features sony and Ninty had on show for a while before respective console lanuch, the problem with home is its under delivered on its promises (im still waiting on a trophy room xD)

Also to an extent PS+ is diffrent from XBL aswell as its pay for a sub for content that you could pay for if you wanted or you can just rent it out basically using PS+ bit like Lovefilm.

But MS set the trend with console online gaming so sure companies will copy the basic gist of it and put their own spin on it look at music over the years especially metal how its spun off so much from its roots :P all because people adapted the basic content and put their own twists on it.

And is second life made by Microsoft? last time i checked it wasnt.

That shows competition is great for the consumer. Thats one thing I thank MS for. Sony wouldint be trying as hard if live wasint such a hit. Now thanks to that I have my psn.

Dreamcast says hi and its online predates the one on the xbox :P i remember casts online well so many hours wasted over at my mates house till we both ended up being PS2 whores and i bought an Xbox for halo aswell cause i got good results lol xD.

I am not sure how that is original.. It was the next logical step.. Like a game going from 2d to 3d.. Systems like that already existed on the pc in which a network was created.. But feature wise and the like it was hardly original. This isn'ta bad thing, I consider it to be the superior over PSN in every way possible.

Zune was pretty poor at its introduction but its vastely improved.. But yet again its seen as crap simply because every MUST have a ipod, iphone etc etc..Even when the apple product is more expensive and inferior.

Dreamcast started online console gaming. Still PSN would still be AS IS if Live didn't grow, Sony would've gotten ideas from PC gaming instead.
