Still not on Live.

Sony obviously copied free online from those other two !!

^^ Not copying, it's just the way it should have been. ^^

Has Xbox Live introduced anything that wasn't on PC first in some shape or form? Plus PSN is free :|

Why bother posting if you aren't going to contribute? Agreeing with people who are wrong just to spite the OP doesn't mean you're right

Xbox LIVE has been a service since 2002, so Sony has had 8 years to improve/surpass Xbox LIVE yet year after year all they do is play follow the leader and wait for Microsoft to innovate the online space. I can't think of a single innovation Sony has made, in fact, there are still features the PSN lacks or have just recently added.

KittenWishes

Clearly the OP is too young to remember that the Playstation went online long before the Xbox did.

And of course, the OP credits online "innovation" to the Xbox instead of the PC, where it really all began.

Sad, really, but it's about what I'd expect from an uninformed fanboy.

PC is not a console. PS1 went online? Really? First Online console i can recall is the Famicom in Japan. Genesis/Mega Drive also used a phone connection to play online, as did the Sega Saturn. Dreamcast was the first console to offer online as a console standard.

PS2 had online before Xbox. The PS2 network adapter was released in Japan in July 2001 and North America in August 2002. Xbox Live didn't launch until November 2002. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 was one of the first PS2 network games and it came out in late 2001. Unreal Championship was one of the first XBL games and didn't come out till late 2002.

Regardless of who went first, it was really MS who kicked it off and made it mainstream. PS2 online wasn't exactly a runaway success.

Read the OP? Probably not. Probably too many big words for you! I asked why PSN hasn't caught up with LIVE and I also asked why Sony keep copying it.

This. Sony may have attempted it first, but their first attempt wasn't exactly brilliant - and since then they've been playing catchup with MS.

It was an add-on and it was pathetic. PS2 didn't have Online-as-standard like the Dreamcast and Xbox did until October 2004, when the Slim launched.

This thread is about online innovations. If sony created what this entire thread revolves around and MS copied it, i'd say that Microsoft is the biggest "copier" of all concerning this subject.

no because you're off topic, I wasn't discussing which service came first AT ALL. Get over yourself.

So if your trying to actually rebute Chutebox, whats the point of this thread? If your going to deny that your playing the "We did it first game" then why does your original post even matter at all? Considering your just accusing sony of "Following the leader" when in fact they actually had Online service BEFORE Microsoft, and also have a FREE service that doesn't keep pace with the service they charge millions of people $60 a year for? Whats your point, what are you trying to prove? until you answer these questions we can only assume your grasping at straws.

Can't believe I have to point this out...but you asked what has Sony done to online that they didn't get from MS. 1. They didn't charge for online, free service. 2. Home You asked questions, they answered. You don't like that you can bash Sony and I understand that, but alas....

$60 a year now, is it. I suppose thats in line with Cow fantasy inflation. The point of the OP was to see in which area of the online space Sony had innovated, NOT which service came first. You can make it up as you go along all you like but the OP is there lording the truth over you. So thats it then? An OLDER service gets all its cues from a younger, more vibrant, innovative, busy and content filled service? Oh but they made Home! Yes, it will be a gaming industry staple for generations... So Home is it. Home and Folding@Home. LOL.

Sorry my mistake with a wrong Keystroke $50.00 a year. The point of the OP is to proove that Sony isn't innovating in the online space...well neither has MS really they are just playing Copycat from better free services available on PC. Wether or not you like it, Folding@Home and Home are things Microsoft has not brought to the table in the online service, but even those could be rebuted as being on the PC first, so the point is moot. Neither Sony nor Microsoft have "Innovated in the online space" So please hop of your pedistal and take a real look at what your trying to say. In the end both of them fail at actually bringing something new to the Online gaming service, and it's System wars, not Consol wars so yes PC does count.

Right...Like EVERYTHING Microsoft has done on the Xbox 360 is original. Why do people like talking about "Copying ideas" and "originality"? They should know by now that all companies copy from another, and all companies don't come out with original ideas all the time. =\

PS2 had online before Xbox. The PS2 network adapter was released in Japan in July 2001 and North America in August 2002. Xbox Live didn't launch until November 2002. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 was one of the first PS2 network games and it came out in late 2001. Unreal Championship was one of the first XBL games and didn't come out till late 2002.Dire_Weasel

to be fair,Halo Combat evolved had online multiplayer via gamespy.xbox gamers were able to play online way before before xbox live came out.

Do we even care?

What's so weird about MS being very good at developing a fantastic OS witha great online section? Last time I checked, they were the guys developing Windows.

On the other hand, they certainly have nothing on Sony when it comes to hardware design.
