I may be wrong on this, but it seems to me that they never changed the animations across all 4 games. Snake crouches the same, crawls the same, runs the same, etc... pixel for pixel. IMO, it's really terrible to see such akward animations in a game that looks so good graphically.

Like you have Snake standing there with a knife and a pistol and he looks all crimped up like a raptor or something. Crouch moving just looks silly, especially from a espionage stand point. Myabe its just me, but outside of cutscenes, character animations look stiff and outdated. I've never played MGS4, but that's what I saw in the gameplay videos.

Do they do this for nostalgic purpouses? Why can't Snake move more spy like?

I can see why you think that because they do look similar. They are all slightly different however, and other main characters like Raiden move completely differently then Snake.

It's just the style that they go for in a MGS game.

Good points. I think this is for gameplay. I mean, if Snake moved like he did in cutscenes, the controls would get too complicated.

I don't know, maybe they just like to use similar animations? I say he's fine this way.

Perhaps because it's more realistic? You play as the same character,so it would be expected for him to move similarly throughout each game. For the record,I haven't played a Metal Gear game yet.

I guess what people say on how its snakes style or whatever, that could fit. Personally though i think itsnostalgiapurposes, as a fan of all the MGS games i think that is the best answer because it is what the animations do to me. Each game introduces new elements to the mix, while still retaining what was built up in the last game, somethings including animations, or the same alert sound when a enemy sees you. Its just what fans are used, they keept what we all know and love while still giving us newer things to adapt to and learn to love. Thats why i think they did it personally.

Thanks, that's why I made a thread questioning it. No honestly, was that supposed to be a smart remark?

I always felt that, too. The transition from animation to animation doesn't seem as smooth as it could be.

??? i don't know what to tell you, TC. :? It's a franchise, i mean, take KFC for example. If you they spread across my nation(the philippines) their oh so popular chicken, but in a way, alter or improve the recipe or how they serve it(franchises are not allowed to do this though), would you NOT find something wrong? i mean, what you're talking about, is something sort of like a "signature" movement for snake. I understand what you are saying, but calling the animations stiff and outdated, are pretty much complaints of a not-so-fan-of-MGS.

TenP brings up a brilliant point But it's a shame Snake had to be born running like a robot though. But yeah, totally agree. It's much more realistic to keep Snake's body disorders throughout the series.

I'm not a fan of MGS because I can admit to one of its flaws? McDonalds is a franchise and their menus in Japan are quite different from what you get in the U.S. I understand it may be for nostalgic purposes ( I even proposed the possibility in my first post), all I'm saying is I'm not into keeping unnatural animations throughout an entire franchise, it's kind of embarassing IMO. It's just me though, and I understand that.

I really agree about his raptor-like stance. I dont think the character animations are stiff in the least, especially not outdated. And I think the crouch moving is fine and realistic enough.
