I'd really like Apple to enter the gaming industry or take a more prominant position.
This generation of consoles are going to have a 10 year lifespan right?
I think Apple could make some sort of arragangement with services like ONLIVE to help distinguish itself from MS, NINtendo and Sony.
Maybe somehow encourage existing Apple and Iphone users to get an Apple console as to create some sort of Apple ecosystem, like what Microsoft are doing with Windows, Xbox360, Zune, Mobile7 etc.
As much as I like my Xbox360 and admire Microsofts huge vision, I worry about a monopoly by Microsoft.
I don't think Sony themselves could buck that trend. Apple are the dominanat players now in poratble music devices- Ipods.
They really shooked up the mobile industry with 30_ million Iphone models sold and competitors rushing to use touch technology.
Sony obviously took Apple's App store seriously and are focusing on creating a service that rivals it.
Apple's OS in the industry has grown. Microsoft used to have 98% of the market now it's down to 70=80%(very rough estimates sorry)
I think it's logical that Apple make inroads into the gaming industry and move out of the office like Micrsoft are doing.
I think with the popularity of the Apple brand they could even attract more people into the gaming industry and help it to grow even more.
Nintendo did say that 60% of households do not even have a gaming console, and there is a substantial amount of people who would like to play games but are intimidated by consoles, controllers and the overall sophistication of games technology.
I think Apple are very good when it comes to ergonomic technology.
I'm sure Apple could attract more software support like they do with Apps store.
Though it may not happen, I would be very excited to seem them enter and I would like to see the gaming population grow as a result of it.
I'm a multiconsole owner and PC gamer anyway. I would most likely buy an Apple consoles, since I have an Iphone-getting Leopard OS, and love technology.
It would be like a SEGA or Nintendo console, in that it would have sub-par third party support. But it would be different in that SEGA and Nintendo had outstanding first party support, but Apple has none.savebattery
Maybe Apple could partner with many independent third party developers.
They have a good relationship with them already with Apps store.
They may not even have to make a specifc console.
Thy could partner up with many dvd/blu ray player manufacturers to allow Apple software on to their machines.
You can plug in an Apple device like say an Ipod or Apple controller you can actually ue the hardware.
The way I see it now.
Somy and Microsoft want to have an all purpose device in the living room that can do it all.
including playing dvd's or bluray, plus their own online stores.
Hitachi, Samsung, Phillips- they have dedicated dvd/blu ray players, but as we know consoles do become nmore powerful and comparable i.e. PS3 is quite a comparable bluray player to stand alone ones, albeit more expensive.
How would Hitachi, Phillipes and all them survive in a market when consoles can do the same things their devices can do, and given enough time can do more.
MS Live, Sony Store..
I think having the capability to have a easy and recognisable online service, the abundant amount of dvd/bluray players out there and partnering up with Apple who are successful with their Apps store could really buck the trend and help the games industry and gaming adoption grow.
What does anyone else think?
[QUOTE="imprezawrx500"][QUOTE="XaosII"] that last line is what all consoles have done. why can't you just use standard audio cable to connect ps3/x360 why no head phone jack? hdmi on ps3 is the only non proprietary cable. where is the vga port on the back of the 360? apple computers have usb, dvi standard audio jacks, x360 has next to no standard ports. enygma500
Wow, so you're comparing a full fledged PC to a Console in an effort to defend MAC? umm Apple fanboy here.
Wow, then Microsoft would have two companies constantly trying to kick their ***.thequietguy
You do realise that Sony and MS are business partners in some part of their companies, right? They aren't at war with eachother. They're just like any other company. They want to dominant piece of the market share is all. But they are still partners in some areas or they do business with eachother.
my point was any other multimedia device has standard audio video outputs but consoles make use their over priced cables. find a dvd player that makes you buy special cables.agreed, and even their best creation the ipod fails in all the categories you listed.Just like Macs: It would look pretty, have overpriced and underperforming hardware, poor software support, its biggest titles come from rival companies, and contains proprietary cables for just about everything, and the adapters cost more than the machine.
