It's gonna be very hard without HD support but I believe the quality of games can speak for itself. Nintendo's e3 was incredbile and plenty of good games coming to the Wii.

I have owned a wii since 2007 and It has and still does suffer from long droughts of good games. 3rd party games are pathetic and I have not once played a Wii 3rd party game that Amazed me.

If Wii continues to release quality titles and can get a good relationship with 3rd parties to make great games, Would you buy a wii if you don't have one?

There will be an HD Wii soon

Once the HD consoles start creeping up on the Wii's price point, Ninty will be forced to release the Wii HD

Just what I was thinking. It seems some here tend to blur those two markets on a regular basis here.

Exactly. That Market is the Teen-Adult Market. They have the money and if you did not notice these games sell consoles and sell in the multi millions.

Up until the PSP, Nintendo's pretty much had a handheld monopoly, has it not? And people don't seem to complain much about Nintendo handhelds.

Besides, I doubt Nintendo will have a full-out monopoly. They can't win everyone over.

I don't see how Nintendo capturing the hardcore market would be any scarier than Sony or Microsoft doing so...

The Wii already has a hardcore following, anybody that lives in the real world and doesn't take every system wars thread as gospel should know this. Just because you choose to shoot people in the face for a few hours every odd evening doesn't make you hardcore, most CoD Halo and KZ fans are infact casual gamers. Its the pursuit of excellence and perfection in the games we play that makes us hardcore, and there on games on every system which you can get this competitive with.

I'm pretty confident that the next Wii will be HD and have roughly the same power as the current generations of consoles. If it captures the hardcore market with excellent gameplay, gripping stories, and high production values, there is nothing to complain about.

I've not completely dismissed motion controls of being something that can be used as a supliment to hardcore gaming, it's just most developers haven't gone that route with the games and a lot who tried have failed.

Uh yeah, the Wii will "capture the hardcore market" when Jimmy Fallon stops laughing at his own jokes. Never. The Wii's control scheme, lack of tech under the hood, awful online integration mean that I will never be on board. Even games I loved on other consoles, Mass Effect 2, God of War 3, Uncharted 2... if I played them on a Wii, with waggle controls, no HD, no online integration, I probably wouldn't have liked them either. For me, games alone can't overcome the consoles technical shortcomings. It's funny how the "graphics/tech/online don't matter" stuff only started when there was one console on the market visibly behind the other two. If graphics/tech/hardware doesn't matter why didn't we stick with the PS2?

It's gonna be very hard without HD support

OwnallConsoles

Please tell me what have you been playing before this HD gen? Oh that's right, non HD games and you apparently loved them because you wouldn't be a gamer now if you didn't. So why would no HD be a bad thing if the games are good?

The next Nintendo console will not be a new Wii, it will be something different. The Wii HD ain't gonna happen either. Of course, the next Nintendo console will be HD; that's a given.

Also, Nintendo will not try to embrace cinematic "hardcore" values again. They tried it with the Gamecube and it didn't pay off. Nintendo will stick with gameplay-based arcade games, with the occasional semi-cinematic experience every now and then.

If graphics/tech/hardware doesn't matter why didn't we stick with the PS2?Hahadouken

Because it kind of stopped getting as many new games as it used to get. I know you're immune to common sense, but I still have to try every now and then, even if it's just for the lulz.

if they capture the hardcore market then it wouldn't be scary. the hardcore go where the good stuff is at. unless the hardcore went to nintendo because all the other consoles disappeared and there was no other choice. then that would be scary.

I despise the label hardcore. It's just a justification kids give themselves for having no other interests other than sitting in their rooms, with the AC on, playing video games. Go outside and enjoy the sunshine and heat for a change..

The Wii isn't powerful enough to capture the "hardcore" market....its a GAMECUBE on steroids with a new controller scheme.

And here's the catch,

If Nintendo tries to bring about a new console iteration, they could lose what they have, because many haven't noticed this, but everytime a new console is released by a major company for the new generation, the previous generation's leader either isn't the leader anymore and/or loses considerable marketshare.

The only time this "phenomenon" didn't occur, was with the PS2.

All the Manufacturers know this.....Nintendo even more than others.

They aren't looking to lose what they've got anytime soon.

why did you put nintendo in blue, and ps2 in red?
