Yes Halo namewise, but it would not be a FPS and it would not be the same beast it is today. Changing it from an RTS to an FPS only happened after Bungie was acquired by MS.

I think that PS3 would still be the same, maybe not PSN.

The competition is what made the PS3/PSN what it is today....just as the reason why MS entered the market was due to the competition........Meaning MS saw what Sony was doing and how much revenue was to be had...

Of course there would have been a PS3..a PS3 with the same specs that we have today...no way... That's just how industry works....

I think that PS3 would still have the same specs, why? well, they rule past gen, and nobody would have change that, so i think that Sony didn't even think on the competition, i mean, they had the money, the had the audience, so they would still launch a PS3 without having in mind the competition.

Well believe it or not, Xbox has change the gaming community a lot. It has brought new things to the table such as their great games and online commnity, of which is what they do best.

But Deamcast.....well, let's just say Sega killed themselves somehow. Sony, Nintendo, andyes Sega, most likely would be the Big 3 today.

PSN wouldn't be the same today, and wouldn't have turned out as good as it is today, without XBL.

And there wouldn't be bloody battles between lems & cows....and ofcourse there wouldn't be any lems at all.

Sony would have continue to dominate (maybe), and Gamecube wouldn't have turned out to be the way it did. It was a sad year when the Dreamcast was discontinued.

But oh well, there's a reason Xbox came to change our lifes :twisted:

I'd only be a PC gamer. Xbox put my faith back in console games. Also I don't think we'd see very many shooters, and the ps3 probably wouldn't of been $500

Good Point, puting that way, and seing PS2 as a monopoly maybe the Wii would exist to take away some of PS2 total domination, and probably Sony would launch a not so powerful HD machine and maybe...oh well, to many maybes, let's just stay with xbox never exist issue :P

Most xbox exclusives would have ended up on PC.

Having two companies with an adult image (Sony and Microsoft) has helped the video game industry mature and reach a larger adult audience. Microsoft entering the race forced Nintendo to rethink it's strategy and find a way to reach a whole new market of casual gamers. If Microsoft never entered the race the video game industry would be a smaller entity with lower quality games.

So, for a moment let's say that Bill Gates never wanted to enter to the gaming world, at least not as a console maker, what would you think would have happened?

IMO, PS2 would been still the beast that it is today, but the GC would probably had better sales, and more important, maybe SEGA would be still a console maker, yeah, i know that the Dreamcast was having lot of troubles by that time, but what if being the only console with an online community a game named Halo appear on the Dreamcast, interesting IMO, i mean, it would not be the huge deal that it is today, but maybe it would save SEGA's console.

And probably this gen we would have PS3 vs Dreamcast vs Nintendo, BTW, i didn't put Wii, why? well, maybe if the GC did a better job in sales we wouldn't have a Wii, we would have another Nintendo Console.

How could sega have been in the race still when the dreamcast was pretty much dead all ready by the time the xbox was released?

You never want a corporate organization to run a monopoly in any industry. Love or hate em, Microsoft is the only formidable competitor to SONY.

I could safely say that if the xbox have never existed...the playstation would be sucking right now. At least to say, no uncharted, killzone, resistance, or infamous. :(

Nintendo and Sony would be fighting an embittered battle for first place while Sega watched from the sidelines with another failing console. This probably would've been Sega's last generation. But I would see the Xbox/PS blood and crips fued being between Nintendo and Sony, possibly more embittered than it is now b/c of the shared history of Nintendo and Sony during the SNES days. Online would probably be only as good as the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is, and I dobut the Wii would exist. I don't see Playstation being to terribly different, I think Nintendo is the real wild card in the mix, b/c if the GCN had performed better, would Nintendo have had the epiphany they had to go a radically different direction? I think Nintendo realized with the GCN they were going to go the way of Sega if they didn't do something, had Xbox not existed this most likely would not have happened and you would a different Nintendo console.

If it didn't exist, then gaming would be far worse off imo.

as much as i like my 360, i cant help but wish that I had sega still around instead, I feel ms has brought more harm than good to the industry. I dont like the game they play tbh

I would have one less console to buy and overall game quality would probably be better since devs could focus on one platform. I don't think MS had an effect on nintendo, so they were going the wii route regardless.

Bill himself said when the xbox was being made / released a majority of households will have High speed internet in the near future...So he pushed for a Online system that would utilize this.

If anything that is what microsoft did for Gaming.

Look at PSO for the PS2...what if that was the best service we had now?

They were starting to become big with Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark, but the original Halo is what basically saved the XBox and started it all... unfortunately. It is not unfortunate, it's actualy fortunate. Only unfortunate for you as you stated that you don't really play FPS games. However people have another genre to choose from as well on consoles.

I would have gotten real sequels to Deus Ex, Thief, Longest Journey, Sea Dogs, Midtown Madness, Freelancer , Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Mechwarrior and Links franchises. Also Ensemble, ACES, ION Storm and Taldren would propably still be alive and kicking.

The Xbox had nothing to do with the death of the Dreamcast! Sega and Sony are the reason the Dreamcast died.
