When I was in middle school, I never actually thought about the differences between these two gaming platforms. Now that I'm 16, and have an increase in my allowance, I recently bought myself a gaming computer and saw the benefits there is to PC gaming. It is clearly night and day difference: better controls, better graphics, better sounds, mods and a million of other reasons that I'm too lazy to list. I like the fact that PC gaming actually let you play the game how the developers intended their games to be (all console games feel dumb down). Nowadays, I wouldn't dare be seen in public with a console gamer...What your reasons of switching to PC gaming and if you haven't why didn't you?

Simulation games. It also has the better online experience and allows mods/emulators (not too fond of mods) and much sharper graphics (mostly hi-res texture, resolution and AF; don't care about AA). FPS and strategy games are also considerably better with a KB/M combo.

The main reason I became so big into PC gaming was the multiplayer games were just soooooo much better.

They still are way better, but I play a lot more than just multiplayer on my PC nowadays.

Steam for massive sales, I like to not be limited to a single control scheme for all my games, mods fix broken games, or make whole new experiences out of existing games. Faster patches on PC versions of games. I say the same thing every time, but I stand by it. 8)

Seriously?? -.- Anyways, I game on both consoles and PC. Prefer PC because of the Freedom. On consoles, I feel like I'm in a totalitarian controlled country, in where I don't control how I am game. I am told how to game. Restrictions Everywhere!! I hate restrictions!! -.-

You know its funny, when someone asks me my main platform I tell them its not PC because that way they don't consider me a giant elitist jerk who looks down on others for having different playstyles.

At least I think its funny because its the opposite of what you do TC.

First person shooters are much more comfortable on PC, but i prefer fighters, Action/Adventure, Racers on console.

You wouldn't dare to be seen with a console gamer? Wow, umm ok.....

Started out as a PC gamer, went to consoles, then came back to PC. FOr me its was that I did the math and figured that in the long run, PC gaming is much cheaper than console gaming. Even with the occasional upgrade it still costs just as much for a better experience.

Pretty much this. Only bought a PS3 because it was cheaper than a HTPC+Bluray drive at the time.

I used to be just like you but once you actually been on a PC, you'll know how much difference it is than on consoles. Judging by your sign, you're a FPS fan so why not play FPS on a system with superior controls? superior gaming community? superior graphics? Go on youtube and check out the gameplay of PC's FPS lineup;)

I grew up with PC gaming so keyboard and mouse controls make me feel at home. I also get to play simulation and RTS games on the PC not to mention i love WRPGs. But truth be told i was never fully satisfied with the PC alone because i'm always interested in Japanese games. There are barely any Japanese games on the PC that's brought to the Non-Japanese Asian and Western markets. Luckily, i have my Wii, DS, 3DS, and PSP to cover it up.

Superior controls? Sure if one player plays on PC and the other on console the pc guy wins, but is it more fun? more enjoyable controls? And the gaming community isn't superior. Graphics sure but is it really worth all the $$$? It's cool for one second.

Versatility of the platform itself, better gfx (res, AA, customization on a driverlevel if nothing else), higher framerates, better DD services, being able to avoid DRM entirely in a legal manner if need be, mods, more control options, game prices (hardware does'nt need to be expensive but it is for me).

That's off the top of my head.

Edit: And I'm fine with being called an elitist, it's just a matter of fear, which Yoda had something to say about:

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

Editedit: That being said I have a keen eye on a couple of exclusives not available on PC.

I prefer PC gaming over console gaming because

  • I prefer its library
  • KB/M+Wiimote+360 controller>Only using one of them
  • Modding, which can make games like Oblivion, which does everything poorly into pretty decent games
  • Freedom
  • Prices, the hardware may be more expensive, but the games are cheaper
  • Back to library, but I prefer the variety you find on PC, which is less composed of Whac-a-Moles that are very popular on consoles. Though I will admit there are plenty of non whac-a-moles on consoles as well.
  • Freeware
  • Save Game Editing

I like console gaming as well, my Wii is my favorite of the 3. But I like my PC more than all 3 consoles combined.

Most of my games tend to perform better on PC, and I'm playing on an $900 laptop! As in the system you're not supposed to play games on unless you're in college!

Also, Steam sales allow me to buy games that normally make me disagree about buying them.

I do play on PC, and trust me when I say its far from the "superior" system.

The graphics are great, but I play games not graphics, and I'm sorry if I'd rather relax on a couch and play splitscreen when my friends come over then get together for LAN parties, lugging my Antec 1200 around. Sure it might be more accurate, but nothing makes my hand cramp more then an hour or more of Counter Strike on a keyboard and mouse, to the point that I sometimes play L4D2 with a controller.

Trust me, PC's aren't what elitists crack them up to be, or else the PC would be the highest selling and most well known way to game for everyone, not the Xbox 360 or the Wii.

I'm not saying that PC's suck and consoles are better or anything, I'm just saying that PC's definitely have too many flaws to be a definitive step up, and lack the first party support and ease of consoles that makes my PS3 my number 1 way to play. But if you want to deal with re installing a game 3 times and fiddling with the settings to avoid crashed, then that's all good for you. I don't have enough time these days so when I want to play, I want it to work on my system immediately and not have to deal with any number of idiotic problems related to my video card, or Windows or blah blah blah.

Me neither. When pathetic console gamers try to hang around me it's embarrasing because people out in public automatically know that they are console gamers and then they point and laugh. It's truly humiliating.

Some of the many reasons I enjoy Gaming on a PC:

  • Multi screen immersion
  • Use of a variety of controls on many games (huge variety of racing wheels, flight sticks, controllers etc)
  • Huge backlog of games
  • Not held to generation standards
  • Many games legally 100% free
  • Many old games still have nice game communities
  • Price of many games release slightly cheaper
  • Do not need to go to my tv and insert any disc to start a game (HDTV connected to PC)
  • Sales galore (d2d, steam, green man gaming, etc etc)
  • Mods
  • Set game controls to my liking even if the game does not provide everything I want to change.
  • More games with dedicated servers.
  • Pure simulators in Racing and flying
  • Higher Graphical content (AA, Resolution, Depth of field, physics, particle effects, textures)
  • Extreme amount of highly rated games
  • Every game genre can be found on PC.
  • Ability to play multiple games, watch tv, web surf etc all at the same time.

I started as a PC gamer and then went over to consoles. Now I guess I am gaming less and less and so little to no reason to invest into a PC. Its pretty sad that you would dictate your social appearance based on a platform choice but hey, whatever floats your boat.

..

I don't see any reason to move over to PC as I find my gaming needs met with a PS3 and a 360.

I don't think his siganture says PC doesn't have DLC just that many Pc gamers (expecially old timers), remember a time when DLC was something 100% free or some of the first things a mod community made such as skins. Now you see DLC everywhere from the very small (super street fighter 4 arcade edition skin pack to lightest expansion, to 1-2 extra maps).. I face palm myself when I see a maker like those who made supreme commander 2 not give a option to create custom maps then send DLC packs to have a couple maps they made when the predessor allowed makers to make whatever maps they want... Just my opinion when i see his sig. Sadly, thats the life we live in... Cut ability from the public to improve or better a game and try to spoon feed you with little candies we use to make from scratch.

there are many many other messages.

And the last time I saw any of them was back when I used an old Dell which had Dell's lovely care-ware installed on it bogging down the system on startup.

Ever since building my own PCs these errors don't happen to me. I did get the blue screen once, but that was because a ram stick was faulty. Also, on occasion a game won't startup properly, but those are decade or older games, and usually require only a two minute fix to get working.

Windows 7 is far more stable than XP or Vista were, there may be a lot of messages, but having used Windows 7 since before it came out (due to MSDN), I've had 2 BSODs this whole time, and it wasn't entirely the computer's fault.

7 fixes more problems than it causes, the auto-repair options for network or software compatibility work a lot more than they did before.

Last time I saw a BSOD was when I attempted to increase my OC and undervolted. It's usually defective hardware (like RROD) or a user error.

I have only had one issue with my PC for a long time now. And that issue was entirely my fault. Meanwhile, my Wii started getting really noisy (at which point I decided to import a Japanese one) and my PS3 broke down (which had to be replaced).

Oh and there have been some compatability issues. But those are easy to fix. Either way, Windows 7 has been pretty stable for me.

Alas, the problems with an entirely open system. However I can safely say Windows 7 is pretty glorious in this regard, I've been using it since launch and haven't hit a single BSOD, and application failure errors are extremely rare - usually only happens when trying to fiddle with dated software from the 90s.

That one quote? In that case, it'd be easy to label beyond half of SW "elitist".

Feel free to apply your judgement to the next multipltat comparison or any console exclusive thread we get.
