I tell them its PC with pride, and I am a jerk who does look down on them and I'm not afraid to do it.

I don't quite understand your signature. Doesn't the PC have DLC, expansion packs, and updates too?

I don't think his siganture says PC doesn't have DLC just that many Pc gamers (expecially old timers), remember a time when DLC was something 100% free or some of the first things a mod community made such as skins. Now you see DLC everywhere from the very small (super street fighter 4 arcade edition skin pack to lightest expansion, to 1-2 extra maps).. I face palm myself when I see a maker like those who made supreme commander 2 not give a option to create custom maps then send DLC packs to have a couple maps they made when the predessor allowed makers to make whatever maps they want... Just my opinion when i see his sig. Sadly, thats the life we live in... Cut ability from the public to improve or better a game and try to spoon feed you with little candies we use to make from scratch.

Ah! I see. I'm an old-timer myself (well, maybe not THAT old), but my experience is more with the console side of video games. I think all this DLC and expansions have something to do with the horrible economy and the fact that these companies needed to do something to generate more income. Why give it away when you can make a buck right? I agree. I guess I viewed the sig in a different light because when I see it I think to myself "wait a minute! Civilization IV had umpteen expansions and some PC gamers went gaga over that so what's the difference" lol.

Thats where the term "elitism" comes from.

That one quote? In that case, it'd be easy to label beyond half of SW "elitist".

Feel free to apply your judgement to the next multipltat comparison or any console exclusive thread we get.

Except that comparison threads are about hardware, and exclusive threads are about games. The quoted comment is about PEOPLE. And yes, when console gamers have acted elitist, I've called them out on it too - feel free to check my posting history around the time of the whole "360 gamers are too poor to afford $600" for proof. I really don't care who I'm criticizing, as long as they have it coming.

I prefer the mouse and keyboard setup but like having the option to use any input devices I want to.

I like having much better graphics, resolutions, textures, shadows, shaders, AA, AF, etc...

Playing at 30FPS or less really bothers me, this really includes first person games.

I love free mods and hate DLC.

I love dedicated servers.

I like being able to customize my experience the way I want to (I still laugh at the fact that you still cannot customize your controls in games on the consoles, only choose from preset options).

I like having cheaper games.

I like having the options of Skype, Ventrillo, Teamspeak 3, and Steam chat to communicate with just my friends and not deal with random people, though in-game chat is still there... again... as another option.

I like monitors much more that HDTVs.

I like Steam more than Live and PSN. I also like XFire and D2D more.

I like having emulators for old systems that I still have the games for but don't want to always have on me.

I like building my own personal computer that is mine.

I could list more, but it is late.

EDIT:

Oh, and how could I forget? I love the games that PC gaming offers. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, Crysis series, Warcraft (not WoW), Starcraft II, Diablo II: LoD, Shattered Horizon, Age of Empires series, The Witcher, etc...

For me it's mostly the simulators, adventure games, tactical shooters and strategy games. All genres close to being extinct on consoles. Plus PC seems to be the last platform where truly hardcore and niche games apear regularly.

I like the more precise controls, and the greater interaction that one has with the community both inside and outside of any given game.

Some of the many reasons I enjoy Gaming on a PC:

  • Multi screen immersion
  • Use of a variety of controls on many games (huge variety of racing wheels, flight sticks, controllers etc)
  • Huge backlog of games
  • Not held to generation standards
  • Many games legally 100% free
  • Many old games still have nice game communities
  • Price of many games release slightly cheaper
  • Do not need to go to my tv and insert any disc to start a game (HDTV connected to PC)
  • Sales galore (d2d, steam, green man gaming, etc etc)
  • Mods
  • Set game controls to my liking even if the game does not provide everything I want to change.
  • More games with dedicated servers.
  • Pure simulators in Racing and flying
  • Higher Graphical content (AA, Resolution, Depth of field, physics, particle effects, textures)
  • Extreme amount of highly rated games
  • Every game genre can be found on PC.
  • Ability to play multiple games, watch tv, web surf etc all at the same time.

Way more variety and much deeper depth. All sorts of games for casuals and hardcore, however you define that. And I have a lot of control over my hardware (upgrade/repair anytime) and software (mods).

The main reason was controls, you really can't beat a mouse for some games. The next thing is graphical but not necessarily because its miles ahead, I just like being able to do something about aliasing which has been a huge problem on consoles ever since the PS2 launched.

You know its funny, when someone asks me my main platform I tell them its not PC because that way they don't consider me a giant elitist jerk who looks down on others for having different playstyles.

At least I think its funny because its the opposite of what you do TC.

SPYDER0416
I don't consider myself an elitist just because I'm a PC gamer. I own a PS2 - the reason I didn't buy the PS3 when it came out was because the PC I had at the time had the GPU that Nvidia modeled the PS3's on. I saw no reason to buy duplicate hardware.

Wait, you really wouldn't dare be seen with a Console gamer out in public? Really? I mean, are we being serious here...

Some of you guys really need to grow up. You didn't even coincide with your thread title at all. It was just flamebait and then "Console gamers taste in games sucks" essentially. Yet, PC gamers are excited for L.A. Noire to go to PC. Honestly, the flip flopping in these forums is ridiculous.

When I was in middle school, I never actually thought about the differences between these two gaming platforms. Now that I'm 16, and have an increase in my allowance, I recently bought myself a gaming computer and saw the benefits there is to PC gaming. It is clearly night and day difference: better controls, better graphics, better sounds, mods and a million of other reasons that I'm too lazy to list. I like the fact that PC gaming actually let you play the game how the developers intended their games to be (all console games feel dumb down). Nowadays, I wouldn't dare be seen in public with a console gamer...What your reasons of switching to PC gaming and if you haven't why didn't you?

Click_Clock

Games that scales from tablet** to full tower PC**.

**With proper GPU.

Someone stole my brother's 360, so for most of the year he has my 360. I'm left with the PC and DS - of which I spend more time on the PC (Mostly doing work/school related things more than gaming surprisingly)
