Someone who plays mainstream games and doesn't always like obscure titles that are actually absolute crap
It's a term describing a type of casual, usually consisting of American high school and college males, that only play games that are 'manly', cool and mainstream. If the game is a action game it has to have lots of blood and cussing in it to be 'realistic', Asian themes are 'weird crap' and friendly stuff is 'kiddy crap'. Other games they play will include sport games and simplified action RPGs. Games that are 2D or turnbased, lack of voice acting or online multiplayer are 'outdated' or 'stuck in the past' and games that require you to read or put any thought into are for 'nerds' and 'mamma boy basement virgins'. More or less what people describe the average fan of the HD twins.Kell_the_Gamerto be fair most japanese games are weird crap
A casual who won't admit he's a casual. Usually owns a 360 because his friends own one. Thinks his CoD, Madden and Forza make him hardcore, while ironically ignoring every other game out there for being 'too kiddy' or some other lame excuse.darkspineslayerAnd anyone who dominates him in a game is a 'virgin pale skinned nerd no lifer'. Probably calls combos, throws, coutners, blocking and basic common sense in fighterss 'unfair' and cheap', and disconnects when he's about to lose. I hate these people so much I can't type stright...

Exactly.. not sure why he said that like they weren't.

Pretty much anyone who has bothered getting to the 10th prestige in any CoD game, people who only play CoD and sports games.
Essentially, casual gamers, people who play games casually...

Because Forza is as casual as it gets and yes so is the GT series. People who think those games are sims need to get their heads checked because they are just arcade racers.
Basically this.It's a stupid term.

We hardcore gamers like to label people that don't play games the way we do.

this is what they call, hitting the nail on the head.
Reading the descriptions being used you all are a bunch of hipsters. You insult them for playing popular games meaning you think you are special for playing games most people do not give a damn about. It is like those turds that buy music of bands no one gives a damn about mainly records cause that is even more extreme and think they are so much more edgy and hip then everyone else. The problem is not them but it is you. Anyone that plays CoD is nothing but a bro gamer and you are a cool hardcore gamer if you play jrpgs blah blah blah. Playing games with a bunch of fairy jrpg heroes does not make you a cooler, better or more of a gamer then someone that plays CoD or any of the other games.

im curious as to if you have ever laid hands on forza, and gotten your hands dirty sitting for a couple hours trying to make your little car shave a few seconds off its time on the ring.
Forza's a deep game probably more deep than most games people champion on here.
It's the kind of gamer who has to high five his buddy after every kill.
It's mainly a term used by people who somehow think they are the elite of the gaming world because they would rather play some obscure Japanese game than a popular game like Call of Duty.
Basically a term coined by gaming hipsters to make fun of more mainstream gamers.

I think this guy is a perfect example of a bro gamer. One who thinks all niche games are bad, and only popular and shallow titles are good. Calling people hipsters for not liking things that are popular and shallow is just a weaksauce defense against the truth.Reading the descriptions being used you all are a bunch of hipsters. Dedicated gamers who play multiple genres and are always open to new things, whether they're popular or not, have every right to label these kinds of drones who think they're hardcore gamers just by picking up a console shooter with a bunch of violence and cursing to give off the fake impression that it's mature and manly.
If the majority of these weekend casuals didn't act so smug and unjustifiably superior, always running around claiming they're tough guys and so macho, then true gamers wouldn't have to mock them with these titles.

Gran Turismo an Arcade racer? haha oh man thats a funny
Anyone that listens to nu-metal or rap and play shooters or Madden all day, and probably does alot of semi-coherent trash talk as well. Actually I think the "trash talk' aspect is a dead giveaway. I don't think it means anyone that refuses to delve into "obscure" games, just people that don't delve beyond just military shooters and Madden on their XBOX/PS3. So something like Skyrim or Dragon's Dogma or Monster Hunter would be well outside the realm of a "bro gamer", basically anything that is not "competitive" and action based would not be of interest. I wouldn't say a bro gamer is casual either, as I'm sure many of them are hardcore 1000+ hour CoD players. A casual gamer to me is a completely different definition, basically someone that DOESN'T" regularly play video games and doesn't want any challenge when they do play.2ChalupasI fully agree with most of what you say, but I'm not sure one can be considered a "hardcore gamer" if they never leave their elements and try different things.
Playing nothing but the same thing constantly only means they are hardcore Call of Duty players and so on, but if they know nothing about anything else in the gaming industry they are not dedicated to anything but Call of Duty (just an example). My mom plays nothing but Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon games, and plays them in to the ground, but she can't play deeper games that require any skill, but those games require patience and dedication, unlike most console shooters that are pick-up-and-play. I don't think anyone would call her a "hardcore gamer" despite the fact that she puts more in to them than any console shooter could ever require.

Bro gamers play CoD and Madden pretty casually. They don't really care much about the market like System Wars does. Every once in awhile they'll pick up a different game that may surprise everybody. They are completely independent of any alliance with a game company and will play anything that looks fun to them, mostly shooters.
I would say that most males ages 15-25 fall into this category. It's not a bad thing like System Wars makes it out to be. It's actually the most socially acceptable form of gaming.

Actually the last CoD game I played was the first MW but I am also not a gamer hispster that needs to look down on anyone that plays different games then what I play. If you need to feel better about yourself by coming up with insulting terms for any gamer that plays different games then you then that is your choice but it seems rather immature. You just assumed because I think the term bro gamer is stupid I must only play those games but considering you are the type to use terms like bro gamer it is not shocking you also make baseless assumptions. I actually play all kinds but the majority are RPGs. Imo most (not all) people that use terms such as casual or bro gamer are elitist douchbags thinking they are somehow a more true gamer because they play a obscure title. You are just as pathetic as the people that call anyone that plays any type of game a geek or nerd. Please Log In to post.
