For me it was Metal Gear Solid 3. I felt there were many faults in the gameplay department and it felt very unpolished. The pacing was rather poor as well (there would be sequences dominated by cutscenes and long stretches where the story was non-existant). Gunplay was unsatisfying too. There were quite a few frustrating/boring sequences in the game (EVA escort, motorcycle escape, The Sorrow, etc).

Despite all these flaws, I still love the game. The stealth was intelligent and really satisfying and the story was really interesting. Music was awesome and the game had one of the best endings ever.

Does anyone have a game that has a better personality than gameplay? A game that is better than the sum of its parts, so to say.

I'd probably go with Mass Effect or Minecraft. DayZ also comes to mind. Mass Effect 1 was simply awful in the gameplay department. Movement was sluggish, the cover system was unresponsive, and the guns felt like paper. However, the story and characters were great, the music was well done, and the overall feeling of the game was great. Minecraft's gameplay is, tbh, very boring and monotonous. But, when you've spent 3 hours constructing something block-by-block and then you finish, it's one of the most satisfying experiences in a video game. DayZ is incredibly dull at first, but the feelings of exhilaration when you find a new weapon or murder your first survivor make it all worth it.

Mass Effects gameplay is pretty awful, but it makes up for that in story and atmosphere. Also Mirrors Edge, i love the look of the game, but it plays like shlt

The Darkness. I don't think I would like that game if I didn't enjoy the plot and stuff.

MGO(R.I.P.)

Oozed in personality. But, the well known fact is, the gameplay was **** It was made infinitely worse with the glitchers, lag, and rank whores who played it like cod though. Still, if you made connections, got a nice large lobby going with a good chunk of friends, it was a total blast.

Fragile. Gameplay wasn't bad but was just average. Loved the atmosphere.

Darkness was crap. and Nothing compare to their Previous title Riddick EFBB which was masterpiece

I would agree that Escape From Butcher Bay is a much better game. But I would also argue that The Darkness has something a lot more interesting to tell than Riddick ever did.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

I'd still rate this unbelievably high if I could because it is just that good in every other aspect but the gameplay aspect (which is the combat I think) is utterly atrocious. The world, the characters, the creatures, the lore, the experience, and heck even the graphics given the time and the world are all just absolutly brilliant and while I play Oblivion a lot more these days I do feel that there is something missing from it that Morrowind seemed to have.

Killer7 instantly springs to mind. Sure, the gameplay was unique, but I didn't find it enjoyable. The rest of the game was one of few games I'd label a masterpiece though. :)

Can't really think of anything tbh... Gameplay is directly related to personality in the first place, people saying Minecraft, Dayz, and stuff is just wrong, those are heavily gameplay focused titles, and if they have a so called personality it's because of it's gameplay.

EDIT: On second thought, STALKER springs to mind, it's gunplay and general game design on a technical standpoint is not very good at all, but it's atmosphere makes up for that entirely.

A little the opposite of you, TC. I played and loved Metal Gear Solid 3 first (HD collection) and when i went to MGS2 i found it outdated and hard to adjust to.

Stalker SOC has really good gunplay IMO if you play on the hardest difficulty with the Realistic Damage addon for the Complete Mod, and the AI is better than most FPS games.

I don't know, it felt really jerky, especially the sound effects, then again that was Call of Pripyat vanilla, it wasn't terrible or anything, just lacked a sense of impact.

The best gameplay mod for COP is Misery IMO.

Tales of Legendia.

Overall, the gameplay is good, but it's not nearly as good as the other entries in the Tales series. It's combat feels kinda clunky and I hate random encounters.

But the game's atmosphere is amazing. The music is beautiful, best game soundtrack of all time.

Seriously, Tales of Legendia should get an awatd for its music.

I also really love the art design. The Legacy looks really cool, and some of the settings look really beautiful.
