I have a few that come to mind.

  • Astral Chain
    • I consider it niche because its combat system is complex and its protagonists have no personality. But man, that combat system.. and music too.
  • Bayonetta Origins
    • Another Platinum game. Has a very unique but fun control scheme where you control two characters with different abilities. But the controls are not overly complex. And it’s just a charming game overall. Why is it niche? it’s not a regular Bayonetta entry.
  • NEO: The World Ends With You
    • yet another game with an interesting control scheme. this time you control many characters at once (I believe 6 or 7 at most). It’s niche because of the focus on Japanese teen culture. Great soundtrack tho, tho not as good as the first.

How about you, SW? What’s a niche game you would like to recommend?

- SMT Digital Devil Saga. Hope Atlus remaster the games (it has 2 parts) its incredible and the plot is very original. My fav SMT game.

- chained echoes! Its a relatively new game but I think its phenomenal. Maybe bit too much plot twist to my liking but I think if you enjoy jrpg you will get a lot of enjoyment out of this game. Its also on Gamepass I think.

...........

Also got to give some shout out to okami.

- Is okami still niche or moved to known? Personally still the best Zelda game ever made. Just bear with the first hours its painfully slow by todays standard. Excellent game.

Pathfinder: War of the Rightous. I know it's not main stream, it's isometric and it's D&D versus demons. It has a unique world that draws you in, very good isometric RPG.

@last_lap: Loved that game, especially playing co-op.

@TheHighWind: that's a great game, but a small mistake its "wrath of the righteous ".

I recommend tyranny. Also an isometric strategic crpg by obsidian. Very unknown, but loved by those of us that played it.

Neon Abyss, The Binding of Isaac, and Retromania Wrestling. Cheap and fun. I have well over 500 hours into The Binding of Isaac alone. Love a bargain!

Not sure what actually qualifies as niche, but how many of you guys have played Hands of Fate 2? It's a mix of RPG, card game and action. It's very hard but I had a blast completing it.

@joshrmeyer: While co-op was fun I felt that it made the game easier even on the hardest difficulty. The co-op was still challenging in the Survival dlc, infact co-op was essential

Looking forward to the sequel later this year.

Define Niche. Pizza Tower has a strong prescence in the PC gaming community. But it is not selling blockbusters level. It is also my personal GOTY.

I declare war on you!

Maybe I should finish the campaigns first though, had some absolutely terrible food poisoning, so I couldnt play it much at all in the launch week. Really fun game though, food poisoning aside.

Hunt: Showdown

Fun fact: Hunt was originally going to be a 3rd person game. Something that looked a lot like Remnant. They later went with the showdown FPS route instead, and I think someone behind the starting project of Hunt went to make the studio Gunfire Games, which made Remnant. And that studio used a lot of assetts that were going to be used by Hunt. Luckily, we ended up getting two good and very different games from this instead of one.

Stardew Valley. It's a farming game that stands tall against most other games of this kind.

No one even knew about NEO due to absolutely zero marketing. It is a shame the game sold poorly because I really enjoyed it.

@SolidGame_basic: Good choices, Astral Chain and Bayo Origins are epic.

There are a bunch of Indies I'd recommend too, such as Katana Zero.

I really hope they’re making an Astral Chain 2.

Team Buddies for PS1. It was very unique but a lot of fun. I think it was pretty advanced for its time.

Powerwash Simulator. Great if you have OCD. Not something I play on its own though. I'm usually listening to something in the background.
