They are considered to be the big names for the X360. Each a phenomenon. They are the two series every one rushes out to get. But I want to know what other people think is the better series?

I own and lovethem both and I say that Mass Effect is No.1 Halo is very linear in story and exploration where as Mass Effect gives you the freedom to explore on your own and be who you want to be. There is nothing wrong with a linear game as I really do love Halo but Mass Effect tops it!

I'd rather play a bungie made halo game than play either of the mass effect games(although Mass Effect 2 is great). Anyone else doing Halo means instant loss of care. I hate Halo Wars, and I fully expect to hate the series once Bungie starts doing their own thing.

Halo by miles. Mass Effect tries too hard to be both a shooter and rpg and fails miserably at both.

Hard to compare a solid third person shooter with RPG elements, which is very open & story driven, which blend to create an awesome game, to an FPS which mostly revolves around almost perfect multiplayer along side a solid campaign made even better with co-op, & as of ODST, Firefight. If it came down to which I had more fun with, Halo 3 & ODST have given me just as much fun, if not more than the ME series, while also being highly replayable. My vote goes to Halo.

Mass Effect there's really no question but there aren't even in the same genre..FlamesOfGrey

Who Cares? Why do you people keep saying Oh they're not in the same Genre Lyke Impossibles to Copare them OMG...

Dude, you can compare and contrast bannanas and Halo if you want, Both are sold in stores, one is edible the other is not. It's called a Venn Diagram, we learned it in Kindergarden...

Even if it's in the same Genre people are always like "They're two different games you can't really compare them" (I've seen this in a Killzone vs. Halo comparison before) Yes, you can compare anything to anything else in the entire world if you want...

It's not always practical. I mean, comparing in the same genre is pretty straight forward and they play similar for the most part, but comparing Halo to a Racing game for e.g. is not meaningful in any way.

Mass Effect has delivered, 2 out of 2 times.
So far, so good.

However, Halo 3's campaign storyline was a major let down... Legendary was piddly-easy. Not to mention boring...

So, I'm going with Mass Effect.

Have to go with Mass Effect on this one. While I like Halo, I don't exactly love it. Role playing games appeal to me far more than shooters ever will anyway.

Actually if you read what I wrote I wanted to see what phenomenon of populargaming greatness was the favorite of GS users. Genre has nothing to do with it.

I still find it astounding that something so simple confuses people, don't you? You asked which game people like better, not which one is the better game. This isn't a comparison of the games, it's comparison of opinions.

I'd say Mass Effect slips by Halo by a bit. Being a Star Wars fan, I enjoy the sci-fi / fantasy opera feel more to it. Both have good lore to them though. I'd like to see a poll in comparing their soundtrack / original scores would pan out because both are them are top-notch.

Mass Effect is great and all, but I'll take Halo.

Halo is weaker in single-player, but stronger in about everything else. really strong multi-player and co-op values. Forge will make it better.

Mass Effect 3 is supposed to have multiplayer of sorts, as long as it's nothing past co-op(death match would be:|, I'll mark it up as an even better series if it comes around.

co-op would be excellent. 1 Shepard and two friends as squadmates. but a deathmatch style would be instant fail to where said fail is unexplainable.

My only problem is, who would one to play as one of the ****ing squadmates? :P

You play ME, you gotta play as Shepard.

Co-op could be fun in all seriousness though.

Mass Effect by far, Its got better characters, better story, more rich universe, more replayability, better voice acting and it blurs the line of Shooters and RPGs. All Halo has is multi-player and a really dull and boring campaign(I never played halo 1), and if EA has its way, there will likely be MP in mass effect too(though it will likely be a spinoff).

It always boils down to personal choice, but I would hate to even see co-op. This game is all about the single player experience, and anything else would just detract from it, for me.

for singleplayer the logical choice should be the mass effect series, and for multiplayer...yeah i really shoudlnt have to follow that sentance, im happy that bioware hasnt decided to add multiplayer to mass effect because not every dang game needs multiplayer

No poll? Anyways, the two games are significantly different, so the best way to judge them is in relation to other games of the same genre. Mass Effect is a great RPG, made by Bioware themeselves. Halo is good, but it's generic and there are a a LOT better FPS games out there(TF2, Half-Life, etc).

Yeah but the way bioware is going -- Mass Effect will have no rpg elements left by the third game... With the rumors of multiplayer, them taking away rpg elements because apparently the xbox crowd loves twitch based shooters more then stats, gear, loot and character development.. expect ME3 to be even more watered down away from its roots and again hard core lemmings will cheer it on and ignore that it is no longer a rpg... So in a sense the two games me2 and halo can and will be comparable.

I don't care if you can compare anything else in the world to anything else. Comparing two games that aren't in the same genre isn't something I personally would do. Relax, if you don't like me saying you shouldn't compare two games in different genres that's not my problem, it's just my own opinion.
