Personally, I'd pick Halo, as I find the Mass Effect series to be overrated beyond words. Especially ME2. It's not even an RPG anymore.
[QUOTE="aroxx_ab"]got that right, MASS EFFECT 1 that is, back when it was an RPG... And TC its also a big name for the PC.. Halo == overrated, mediocre and boring fps..imo. You have only played halo 2, your opinion is invalid.Mass effect is far better

In terms of story, soundtrack, art direction, and atmosphere, Mass Effect. In terms of gameplay, Halo.
rpg not my thing. with the amount of time ive put into all the halo games, its hard to vote against it
if mass effect is a phenomenon then big rigs is a million dollar franchise-The-G-Man-
Sorry to hear you don't like the game as much as others.
[QUOTE="JediRiff"][QUOTE="Falcon084"]You are asking alot here, lol... I dearly love both franchises, however I would choose Mass Effect without a thought IF I had to choose. But why should we choose? One is an FPS, the other an RPG.... Personally, I am just ecstatic to have both!!!! :) Yeah but the way bioware is going -- Mass Effect will have no rpg elements left by the third game... With the rumors of multiplayer, them taking away rpg elements because apparently the xbox crowd loves twitch based shooters more then stats, gear, loot and character development.. expect ME3 to be even more watered down away from its roots and again hard core lemmings will cheer it on and ignore that it is no longer a rpg... So in a sense the two games me2 and halo can and will be comparable. They are considered to be the big names for the X360. Each a phenomenon. They are the two series every one rushes out to get. But I want to know what other people think is the better series?
I own and lovethem both and I say that Mass Effect is No.1 Halo is very linear in story and exploration where as Mass Effect gives you the freedom to explore on your own and be who you want to be. There is nothing wrong with a linear game as I really do love Halo but Mass Effect tops it!

Yea except thats all rumours, no info has even been released yet for ME3.
It's a tough choice.... Halo has more tradition, it has 3 major games and other games in the same universe, like Halo Wars and soon Halo Reach. Mass Effect has only two major games... considering games alone, I think Mass Effect 2 beats every halo game.
.
But now answering the question, Halo has more history and more sucessful games, so I pick Halo. But I think if Mass Effect 3 keep the level of ME2 I'll change my choice.
I can't really pick either. Halo CE was a great game, Halo 3 was a very good game, but 2 and ODST not so much.
The same kind of thing with Mass Effect... ME2 was great, one of the best games I ever played, right now it's my 2010 GOTY choice. However the first ME was not that great to me. The story was good, but the game play was just lacking in a lot of ways.
So both series have their pluses and minuses. If I had to pick one of the other, then since I'm more of a single player type person the nod would go to the Mass Effect Series. Mainly because most of the DLC for ME2 is top notch, and extends an already great game.
[QUOTE="FlamesOfGrey"]Mass Effect there's really no question but there aren't even in the same genre..MrJack3690
Who Cares? Why do you people keep saying Oh they're not in the same Genre Lyke Impossibles to Copare them OMG...
Dude, you can compare and contrast bannanas and Halo if you want, Both are sold in stores, one is edible the other is not. It's called a Venn Diagram, we learned it in Kindergarden...
Even if it's in the same Genre people are always like "They're two different games you can't really compare them" (I've seen this in a Killzone vs. Halo comparison before) Yes, you can compare anything to anything else in the entire world if you want...
Well its not going to be fair, because for someone like me, who enjoys rpgs and online likes a couple FPS games, I would most likely pick the RPG just because I'm partial to the genre rather than it being because it is indefinitely the better game.
[QUOTE="Head_of_games"]No poll? Anyways, the two games are significantly different, so the best way to judge them is in relation to other games of the same genre. Mass Effect is a great RPG, made by Bioware themeselves. Halo is good, but it's generic and there are a a LOT better FPS games out there(TF2, Half-Life, etc). jjccjj92I think it's hilarious when people call Halo generic considering it basically invented the modern FPS.
inventing? I'd say not really.
but Halo is definitely not generic. that's just a word people love to use when they need more adjectives to put it down.
I hate it when people post two games that really could not be more different even if they tried to be. Whats better mario kart or god of war its about that far apart.
Both are overrated series, but I'll go with mass(1).

Nice opinion, but too bad millions of people disagree with you.
Both Mass Effect games have problems like clunky and stilted movement around the battlefield, the cover mechanics aren't very fluid, the level design is feels very artificial and doesn't allow for much freedom, the facial animations and body language are wooden, squad doesn't interact with each other enough, etc. I didn't think Halo 2, 3, or ODST were that good either, but Halo CE was a lot of fun.

I keep telling myself to have faith in Bioware, and hopefully our fears for the third game will be for nothing. :)That's like saying a game can be a FPS even if its not in a first person perspective and has no shooting. Why are people bringing whether it's an RPG into question? It's an RPG by default, just because it doesn't follow certain archetypes does not mean it's not an RPG.

Mass Effect has stats, leveling up, conversational systems in place. Sounds like an RPG to me.

So RPGs are defined by **** loot systems?
apart from the fact you have MP on Halo, Mass Effect is better in every other way and i am glad Mass Effect doesn't have MP because it is a story driven game. :)
