You obviously care, hence the reason this conversation even began. I post it as a FPS and you responded. If you didn't care you would have never gone this far with the conversation.-RPGamer-
I ment to say I don't care about this conversation since it's pointless continuing it.
Did I say the puzzles require you to kill enemies? No, I don't think I did.-RPGamer-
Seemed like you were implying it.
They're not locking you into rooms and forcing you to shoot things to get to the next area for nothing in MP titles. That's not a puzzle by the way, that's straight up FPS.
-RPGamer-
If not sorry for the confusing.
I said that MP locks you in rooms and expects you to kill things to move on, there nothing "puzzle" about a lot of the content in MP titles.-RPGamer-
I think it was obvious that wasn't what I was talking about. I was talking about the puzzles in the game, you know where they have you in a room to solve things.
You don't need to shoot everything in any FPS, I never said you did. That doesn't stop the fact you can't go through the majority of the game without shooting things, the game actually forces it.-RPGamer-
But is shooting things the game focus, when the developers make a Prime game is the first thing they think of is attacking the enemy? What the game focus's on doing is the genre a game is caterogized in. Metroid does not focus on shooting your enemies, it solely focuses on exploration, and because of that it isn't a first person shooter, but a first person adventure. If you would like a more proper definition it would be a First Person Action Adventure.
And can you stop trying to shoehorn this conversation into other titles, we're talking about FPS and Metroid Prime. Not racing games, not stealth games, not Sonic, not Zelda, not Splinter Cell etc.-RPGamer-
No it's the exact same thing you're doing. The game I listed both have much emphasis in shooting just as much if not even more so then Metroid and yet they are called different genres because of their core focus. If Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (which has much more focus with shooting and weapons) is still a stealth game and not a TPS then Metroid Prime is a FPA and not a FPS. This isn't "shoehorn" this is exactly what you are telling me and the logic you present.
I find it hard to believe that MP being called a FPS is "strange" considering this debate is as old as the Prime games. :| (Please refrain from telling me how to post, in reference to my indifference smiley)
-RPGamer-
And from this debate what is the consensus? The press, the game creators, and the majoirity of the gaming community all agree that the game is a FPA.
I've never played a FPS that didn't have adventure.DireToad
I never played a platformer where you don't attack your enemies so does that make them a beat-em-up?
FPS games and games that appeal to casuals. And maybe Brawl.
Besides Brawl (I'll be playing it too much to say no to it), I wouldn't be too excited about way too much FPSs (especially if they're identical) and casual games ruling. I want a mix bag. On all systems.

It's so pointless you keep on going, way to prove your point. :?
If by "imply" you mean you assumed, than you did so wrongly.
I disagree that it focuses on just exploration. They obviously think about shooting other wise things like boss battles, locked environments requiring you to kill everything and different wepaons wouldn't be key elements. Like I said I wish we would stop pretending shooting hasn't always been a key element to the Metroid franchise. During your exploration, they intend you to fight. If you don't agree with that than I feel like we're not even talking about the same games anymore.
This conversation isn't about all these other references, again I won't entertain those b/c I have different views on different genres. You keep trying to shoehorn me in with your tangeants, but I'm not going there. You can stop at anytime. It isn't "exactly" anything, b/c it's a different reference therefore not "exact".
Didn't know the consensus was always right, but if you want to talk specifics the same site you're on right now places MP3 under a sci-fi first person shooter... hmmm that interesting. :|
