Most people prefer playing against their friends on seperate xboxs, with mics. Same experience, bigger screen.bronxxbombersMost people? Does not seem so since Wii is selling most and last generation consoles sold at a faster rate and had many more splitscreen games. Wii is entirely made up of local multiplayer.
To me, it's all about being online. I see online as doing 2 things to games: Less local play, and more games that have MP that really shouldn't.

But the games are different. In a FPS, details matter. You need to see the right toe of a guy if its peaking out. In wii, you just need to guess when the balls ocming, and swing. That doesnt require much in terms of TV size. But in a co-op FPS, you want to see everything. Now, dont get me wrong, I LOVE co-op games or local vs. battles, I loved playing star wars BF 2 splitscreen with my friends, but I like having my own TV to play on, and my own couch to sit on.

I have many family members who cant afford next generation consoles and when they come over I only wish to play with them. I let them play alone because most of the great games are single player or multiplayer without splitscreen.

I don't really think split-screen co-op is selling Wiis, considering how mostly hardcore gamers want split-screen and majority of Wii buyers are casuals. Also with tthat logic you could say terrible online or shovelware is what's selling the Wii...
I hate when friends are over or vice versa and when there is no option on playing split-screen. It is really annoying when we have to take turns playing a game.
Yep, since I have all the consoles a nicely sized TV, my place is usually where we do all the gaming, fighting games and Mario Kart only last so long, it would be nice if more games had split-screen co-op..I hate when friends are over or vice versa and when there is no option on playing split-screen. Same experience? No way...it's much more fun to play with someone who is sitting right next to you than over a mic.
Agreed.I understand how you feel because I feel the same. I have 3 controllers but when mates come over, most of the games are single player.I bought four ps3 controllers and gosh darn it, I want to use them!

LAN>Splitscreen, problem solved. The only issue here would be that they might not have a system but that has hardly ever been an issue for me.Most people prefer playing against their friends on seperate xboxs, with mics. Same experience, bigger screen.bronxxbombersnot the same experience. Its better, imo, to be in the same room playing with someone, a friend.
I miss it. It is fun playing on the same screen. I wish there were more games like Secret of Mana or 4 swords though where we all share the screen and work together. I would love to see that thrive this gen. Sadly the complexity of the dominant genre (shooters) doesn't lend itself well to a quarter of a screen.

Its better, imo, to be in the same room playing with someone, a friend. I completely agree. When we are with mates at someone else house, we wish to play at the same time some epic games. Not take turns or go home in order to play.

I'm seriously speechless. Mostly hardcore gamers want split-screen? Where would you get that idea? You don't need to be "hardcore" to enjoy playing with somebody sitting next to you. If anything it's the complete opposite. Casuals who want to get into gaming will rather do it with somebody who already is a gamer next to them instead of going at it alone. Most people prefer playing against their friends on seperate xboxs, with mics. Same experience, bigger screen.bronxxbombersYes of course, because people prefer buying two consoles to do what they could have done easily on one. And since when were you appointed the spokesman of "most people?"

Thankfully games such as CoD and Halo still have it. I think it should be in most games, just because its easy to implament. Now, would I use it with other people who have a 360? Locally no, but I think online co-op should ne a must, and if you have that, local should be a must as well.Exactly. Another thing that bothers me like a mosquito is what they did to Guitar Hero and Rockband. The latest versians require you to buy every single instrument because they took away the chance of using the default dualshock 3 or Xbox controller to play. I mean how terrible is this. Sure many may say its better with instrument but what happened to choice? Do we need to be limited to few choices? Gaming industry's greed is showing way too much. You cant use a controller anymore becasuse the controller is used for the mic so the person that is singing can choose their character and difficulty.
I love playing FPS co-op splitscreen with a friend (Call of Duty World at War. Left 4 Dead), or beat-em ups like Castle Crashers and TMNT. Sports games are where all the actions at though. I can never see them taking out local multiplayer in sports games. I'm addicted to the NHL series and NHL 10 is going to be sickkk.
Yes of course, because people prefer buying two consoles to do what they could have done easily on one. And since when were you appointed the spokesman of "most people?" wow somebody's knickers are in a twist. he is talking about online. 30 million people wouldnt be paying for live if they didnt like playing online against other people.[QUOTE="bronxxbombers"]Most people prefer playing against their friends on seperate xboxs, with mics. i completely agree, but on fps or any game where stealth can be a stategy playing on one screen isnt that great because of screenlooking
Yeah, it bugs me a lot too. A little while ago my friend brought over Left4Dead, and we wanted to do 3 player co-op with my bro. It turns out, you can only do that online. It makes no sense to me not to include it since 4 player split screen play has existed for at least two or so previous gens.
Most people prefer playing against their friends on seperate xboxs, with mics. Same experience, bigger screen.bronxxbombers
That requires people to have their own 360s and PS3s and their own microphones. Furthermore, having friends over and playing with them in the same room definitely sounds like a superior experience to me as well as an easier one to accomplish.
Local multiplayer is wayyyyy better than online, NO LAG!!!!! Besides, if you play WoW, try doing heroic dungeons with your friends in the same room, forget the mics and you will see that is a lot easier that using teamspeak or ventrilo and COD4 splitsscreen is way more fun that online (except that the selection of weapons sucks)
I think split-screen should be mandatory in any co-op campaign games and the likes, even if they can't make the game look 100% when you split it in two, no amount of webcams or voice chat or whatever beats actually having the friend next to you playing.110million
This right here.
sucks there aint 2 player split screen on online games. like halo 3 and warhawk has. cod and battle bc needs split screen
I thought it was a big step backwards for Resistance 2 to not have four player split screen when Resistance did. Why did they do that?
Split Screen is an amazing feature that is unfortunately forgotten about.
I think Halo 3 did the greatest job this job with local play. Wish my Killzone 2 had split screen. Halo has done a great job on the 360 and LittleBigPlanet is an absolute blast for the PS3.
So, it's not COMPLETELY forgotten, but it certainly needs a rejuvenation.
