What is hardcore?

Instead of saying hardcore, would it make more since to just say "gamer"? Casual players and Gamers sounds more like it.

here's my understanding of hardcore gamer and casual gamer. i used the game pokemon gold for the example.

-a casual player who plays pokemon gold will play and finish the story, then plays another game after that.

-a hardcore gamer who plays pokemon gold will play and finish the story, complete all side quests, and and captures all pokemons.
