The best game of all time? That is a really tough question.Â
Is it Command and Conquer? Starcraft 1? Age of Empires? Pioneers of the RTS genre.Â
Is it Quake 1? The first FPS fully realised in true 3D? With a great multiplayer set up the likes of which the world had never seen before.Â
Is it Gran Turismo? The racing game which pioneered a truly extensive range of cars with plenty of customisation.Â
Is it the Sims? A game enjoyed by so many the world over from all walks of life, a game which tried to something entirely new and different.Â
Is it Half-Life? A game which pioneered how levels should flow together better, creating a more seamless gaming experience.Â

Seriously man. That's such a tough question. Greatest video game of all time. I can only pontificate.Â
Streets of Rage 2
Intuitive and smooth gameplay, unique characters, awesome bosses, a variety of difficulties, amazing music, a versus mode, the best co-op experience ever, and unlimited lasting appeal. It's everything I want in a video game.
I'm going to have to go with Fire Emblem: Awakening right now. PC Gamers: "No, Fire Emblem: Awakening does not render everything at 1080p with realistic textures, and you are not forced down a gun-metal gray corridor the entire time. You also have to think beyond how you're going to exaggerate the quality of the game to people who have better ones to play when you log on to GameSpot later." Me: "Well, I think Fire Emblem's weaknesses do not completely deprive it of its high standard of gameplay. And my thinking is almost entirely centered on strategy, in part because you need lots of it, and because I'm not so concerned about showboating it around the forums like I had something to do with it, especially since its good enough on its own that you don't need to embellish the truth: it is an excellent game in its own right." PC Gamers: "I don't like 3D. It's only 720p. Ad hominem. Beardmad. Meaningless adjectives. Beardrage." Me: "I only ever go into doing something if I think I'll have a good time with it, and I try to make it that way. But with Fire Emblem: Awakening, I don't have to, and because of it, I'm never ever beardmad."Drasonak

Goldeneye? Splitscreen at its finest. The best movie to game perhaps?
Shenmue? Most underrated game in history and was once the most expensive game in the industry at one point.
Deus Ex/FF7/Star Wars KOTOR/Mass Effect/Demons Souls? The best RPG's?
Pong/Pac-man/Tetris? Classic games perhaps?
Donkey Kong Country/Super Mario World? The best side scrolling platforms which made people at that time stay up at night collecting coins.
Street Fighter 2/Mortal Kombat/Tekken3/Soul Calibur? The best fighting game?
Choice is yours.
Covered a lot of great games there.

impossible Mission for the Commodore 64. 'Another visitor....stay awhile....stay forever.....'

That was a great game. Never got very far in it mind you :)
I used to love it because they randomized Robot patterns and the room configuration every game. They made a sequel but it sucked because everything was just the same...[QUOTE="poptart"]

They made a sequel but it sucked because everything was just the same...It used to frustate the arse off me I must say, even though I enjoyed it. I actually didn't mind the second too much as I seemed to get a little further - proably for reasons you mention. I used like that synthesised voice though. I remember having a voice synthesiser (cartridge I think) for the C64 - awesome liddle ol' machine *memories*
That's way too hard to say with any confidence. The best way to do this is to say what the best game is in each genre. I mean, how do you compare an FPS with a platformer?
