[QUOTE="blackace"] I think initially when they were creating it they wanted it to be a handheld, but that changed before it was marketed. They were also working on the N64 at the same time. I think the Virtual Boy was suppose to be put on your head, but it was way to heavy, which is why the tripods were created and it became a game console. It was never marketed as a handheld system though. "The Virtual Boy ( Bcharu Bi?) was a table-top video game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo. It was the first video game console that was supposed to be capable of displaying "true 3D graphics" out of the box, in a form of virtual reality. "KingsofQueens
No, it definitley was marketed more as a handheld. That's what everyone thought of it back in the 90's, I can attest to that. No one viewed it as a console, even the people at the stores when you asked to try it out. I mean if you want to get technical about it, you can label it as a portable console, but it's not a console in the traditional sense.
Yep, I can attest to that as well. It was sold as a handheld. I remember I was at a Toys R Us, and there was a kiosk for it. It felt horridly awkward and uncomfortable......you literally needed a table to hold the damn "binocular" portion and then lean forward into it.
It was held by a tripod for that portability use.
Yeah, I used to play on those Toy R Us kiosks too, and horribly awkward to play is exactly how I remember it. You had to uncomfortably lean into them, and then after a few minutes of play, my eyes used to water lol.
