[QUOTE="dgo71102244"]is this some kind of joke thread?

NG>>>>>>>>>>>>>HELLO KITTY ISLAND ADVENTURE>GOD OF BUTTON SMASHthrones

Why? You still haven'y explained why, and you can't complete the entire game of God War with just hitting the [] button, not even counting QTE here. It's platforming and puzzle segments and pretty fun, as was the pegasus mini-game. Combat is pretty satisfying and fun. The scale is also just epic on a new side of awesome. The game just reeks more 'fun' than NG. Like Halo 3 vs. Ghost Recon.

One's tactical, the other's a happy run and gun shooter. I know which one I'd choose.

A button masher is defined as a game where randomly pressing buttons will allow you to succeed. In this case, God of War's combat system looks something like this...

square, square, square, square, (initiate QTE sequence) square, square, TRIANGLE, square, sqaure, Tri... square...

NG won't allow that. You can kill a few enemies with Y, Y, Y... or X, X, X... but you won't last long if you're surrounded by foes. Countering has a small frame of opening to intiiate, to pull off some moves, they require analog movement, timing of buttons, and correct button press combos. Certain moves work better on certain enemies, you need to think how to battle... it's akin to fighting games

What if you don't want a fighting game in your hack and slash, what if you just want to enjoy the button mashing in a deeply calming way that only violence can do? I found Ninja Gaiden too complicated for it's own good. As a side note, I also dislike fighters. And God of War has a good enough combat system, and you do have to block and dodge if you play on a higher difficulty. Don't forget that your character placement is important, and puzzles and platforming. And pegasus sequences :D

And bosses, the bosses are epic.

thats your opinion and your in the minority, by the way you didnt even play against the alam boss that was epic awesome.

kratos design isnt even original rickjamesxx

no u didnt....please...explain to me how Ryu is original. He is about the most stereotypical ninja imaginable. If it wasnt for the fact that u control, he could be just another random bad guy ninja.

Ninja Gaiden has its gameplay focus on the fastl and furiosly hard combat, while God of War focuses more on rythmatic combat and minor platforming. Pick whichever has the strengths you most prefer.

Sales say otherwise actually.

But seriously, I'm not doubting that NG had a deeper combat system. My arguement is that God of War was generally more fun.

NG fans say GoW is a button masher. I ask you this: What do you mash to beat NG:S?

alex77k

This wonderful statement made me understand that you just don't like NG and just want to bash it. GoW is a good game and it has a very good story. The story is better as you say. Ninja stories do not need the hues of grey and such for character development. Ryu is a freakin Super Ninja. Ninjas Desire revenge all the time.

GAME play wise NG will wipe the floor with it unless GoW 3 is revamped. It's as deep as a fighting game and requires some fighting strategy to play. The people that played hundreds of hours on those uber button mashing sequences are not bright enough to learn the fighting system. I hope thats not you.

What is there to understand? Is it a deep philosophical issue that requires enlightment? lol or is it just the action associated with a pre programmed action triggered by a combination of button(s) depending on the type/state of the target and your weapon/state which includes your previous inputs within a specific timeframe that allows a certain action to be triggered? I am sure it is the later, and the later is learned by repeately playing and/or getting some infor from the web.

Hence, learning the fighting system. If you keep losing your not learning the system just like you can in GOW. GOW provides QTE for that stylish action. NG you have to decide a combo or combos, weapon or ninpoto use. You get the same swords with GOW that upgrade. In NG you decide the sylish action, If you want to jump off one AI's shoulders and throw a windmill star at another one then behead the guy behind you you can.

GOW you hit the AI with you special two swords and close in for the QTE which is generaly the same depending on the enemy. Yes you chose the combo for the swords but thats about it. GOW does use the QTE creatively for boss fights. I don't enjoy that system as much as what is in NG. Next time try and use some punctuation so I can understand your thoughts clearly and not believe that you are simply throwing out big words because it sounds good. Funny reply by the way.

I prefer NG, the main problem I hear about it is its difficulty.

I have no ideal why, I know I'm good at games but it really isn't that hard.

Now for Gow, all I did was button mash my way through the game without really thinking, I never really found it that enjoyable, the only thing that was truly memorable was the boss fights.

The reason why I personally think so many people love it is because its extremely casual, its so noob friendly you can literally breeze through the game pressing the same buttons over and over, I think people love the fact Kratos can pull all these complicated looking combos off with ease plus you have gore and all that on top etc.

Maybe I'm completely wrong, I really don't know, but i do own both so i have no reason to be biased.

I dont understand. I played both NG:S and the God of War series, and there really is no competition here. Even though NG:S was released for PS3, that game is so last gen. It's an arcade game with better graphics. Indeed the action and controlling Ryu feels pretty tight, but NG:S is a half game compared to GoW.

NG:S story is comparable to those old school games like kungfu master. The character in NG:S does not develop a personality throughout the game. It's like Team Ninja created an arcade game first then added the storyline and a character as a second thought.

NG fans say GoW is a button masher. I ask you this: What do you mash to beat NG:S?

However, I do have a guess why some people think NG a much better game than GoW. It's hard to let it go. After spending hundreds of hours practicing the uber button mashing sequences, they've convinced themselves that being good at NG equals to have good reflexes and skills and it proves something in real life.

Please stop saying NG is a better game than GoW series.

alex77k

Yay for opinions. Although, it seems that reviews like the console NG better than the console GoW, while they like the portable GoW better than the portable NG. Lets face it, NG was remade THREE times and still managed to get AAA scores every time. Its a freaking masterpiece (with flaws), its combat is deeper than any other game in its genre (with the possible exception of dmc). I've clocked over 400 hours on NG and NGB combined, I guess that says a lot about how awesome this game is imo

NG gameplay is so freaking tight, the combat is so deep, every weapon is amazing, combat feels so good.

GOW is fun, but NG is king.

GoW :

This game is all about attack . while the game have a block/Dodge you won't even think about using it until you play on harder difficulty , and most attack can simply be dodged by running around . With normal combos you will hit almost everything on the screen which make it even more easier to ignore anykind of defense . the minigame kills make-up for the constant beat'em up feel with some of the most awsome cinematic looking kill you will ever see :P

Difficulty : easy - Casual Friendly / Gamer Friendly / Hardcore Friendly

DMC :

I like to see this game as a turn-based action adventure game :P . You do your combo , you ennemy attack ( and you try to dodge it ) , you do your combo , etc :P . the need to dodge get really important against later on monsters and bosses but the camera can make it hard on the timing . Nero in DMC4 can use is Buster to make some awsome kick ass move , a la GoW ( without the minigame ) which is quite welcome ^^ .

Difficulty : medium - Experienced casual / Gamer friendly / Hardcore friendly

NG :

This game is all about defence , don't even try to attack first unless it's really obvious that you can or you gonna get your ass kick . while GoW and DMC are about beating the crap out of the ennemies , this game is about creating opening by dodging/blocking and then counter-attack with a deadly combo . it is know to be one of the hardest game ever .

Difficulty : hard - Casual Killer / Experienced Gamer /Hardcore friendly .

I can see the flames coming , ill go get some water .

no one in there right mind would say that ng has a better story than gow. i like ng better though. the controls feel tighter. Btw, button mashing usually refers to one button being hit over and over with no overall strategy. that is not Ninja Gaiden. if you don't block, and wait for the right time to attack, you won't make it.

Ninja Gaiden is a timeless classic. God of war does have a better story, but Ninja Gaiden makes up for that with the amazing combat system.

Every weapon in NG is comparable to the weapons/characters in sould calibur.
