What is Sony's most overrated PS3 era title IYO?

I gotta say it's The Last of Us.

Was about to say Uncharted 2, but ever since The Last of Us showed people wouldn't stop talking about how amazing it was despite the controls being anything but stellar.

I don't know, their most underrated though are Folklore and the Yakuza series (in the west)

MGS4. While I think the Uncharted games were all overrated because of their godly status among many, they were at least decent games. MGS4 (to me) was an awful game, so the biggest praise to quality gap is a lot larger with MGS4 than any other game I can think of. That's a Konami game though, but its a PS3 exclusive. So, thought I'd mention it.

I didn't like Killzone 2 or 3 at first, but they grew on me with time, and they're among some of my favorite PS3 games. I don't feel they're overrated. I liked them a hell of a lot more than the Resistance games.

God of War 3 was actually a huge disappointment for me, while it was a tremendous update to the game visually, the level and story design really felt like a step down from God of War 2. The bosses were shit. The levels didn't have the same kind of filler combat the previous game had. The game lacked the kind of fun gratuitous violence I had come to love, the one with sometimes humorous aim to it. That's what I'm assuming David Jaffe brought to the table when he was involved in previous games, he's gone, that probably explains a lot. Honestly though never got to try Ascension, wanted to. I've heard it has its problems but I've had others who've heard my gripes about God of War 3 say that Ascension might be more to my liking.

I dislike most over-the-top violent + gory games so God of War is the easy pick for me. I prefer shooter mechanics over button mashing combos. Atleast PS3 will always have the Last of Us, Demon's/Dark Souls, and the Ico/SOTC collection. Great trio of games right there.

Playing blu rays, that's all I used it for so I'll vote that

You have to go back 6 or 7 years. Killzone 2 was OK in it's time, particularly running on consoles. As was Killzone 3 - which ironed out most of the "technical glitches" that Killzone 2 had. They did sort of ruin the multiplayer with Killzone 3 though. Shadowfall is straight up garbage.

Obviously going back and playing Killzone 2, the technical limitations would stand out way more. (grainy 720p, probably lower than 30fps, hiccups/freezes every time you hit a save point, etc). But you can pretty much say this for any franchise running on a console. Gears of War on 360 is basically unplayable to me now (hell I played it probably 2013-ish, and i was shocked even then at how badly it aged). Some of the games and sequels from the end of last gen still hold up ok on consoles, but many of the early games were rough - even the "exclusives".

I like MGS4, but no way in hell did it deserve a 10 anywhere.

Uncharted series is no where near as good as it's made out to be (Haven't played TLOU, I imagine it's similar)

I enjoyed KZ2 back in 2010, but I think it's garbage now , atleast the campaign. Hated KZ3 the 1st time I played it.

So I think an argument could be made for any of the above as most overrated .

of that list i would say killzone 2, but the real winner is metal gear solid 4. a completely convoluted, incomprehensible game that's got an 80:20 cutscene:gameplay ratio, while diluting the tight stealth mechanics from the previous games.

i also think the infamous games are incredibly boring.

I played/finished Killzone 2 and I've never seen the hiccup/freezes you're talking about. I had some low framerates at maybe 3 or 4 places. I played it on a fat PS3 with a Penguin United adapter, so I can use my mouse and keyboard. I saw maybe 3 or 4 slowdowns tops and no freezes. The worst thing I hated in KZ2 were the blasted Six Axis crap because they didn't have button equivalents. That came later in KZ3.

Game was fantastic from start to finish, and the boss fights were great, massive scale and just plain gun. It must SUCK being as negative towards such great games like most in this thread and this site in general, I feel sorry for you and others like you.

Last of Us. It sucks hardcore on ps3. It should have been a ps4 launch title. The system can't handle it. Horrendous jaggies, controls are inaccurate. I couldn't finish it.

And the amount of gamplay that can be applied in one playthrough far exceeds your current fav game aswell

It seems to freeze for a second or so when you hit a checkpoint. It did this for me on my fat PS3, and even when I later played the Killzone Collection on my PS3 super-slim, the same thing was going on. So it definitely wasn't just me. I played it on both different systems, and using different discs. It must have just been something you didn't notice for whatever reason, I know other people noticed it when the game was out. But I don't think it was "patched" because like i said, the same problem existed on the "Killzone trilogy" release years later. Maybe if you have an SSD or faster HD in the PS3 it doesn't happen?

Just ordered up the Metal Gear Solid Collection. Livecommanders passionate arguments were highly influential in the decision. Hopefully Hideo Kojima's masterpieces can justify this brick.

Journey(to be fair only played the demo, not the full game. Demo expression didnt feel like a 10/10 game for me)

if we count third party, then nothing tops the abomination that is GTA IV. The sight of it having a 98 on metacritic, give my eyes cancer :/

What the hell you talking about? Who said I speed ran through the game? My MGS4 play through clocked around 16 hours. The question is, how many of that was actual gameplay.

MGS4 made more sense than 2 and 3, the problems myself and others had with 4's cutscenes was the length and it overshadowed gameplay. I play video games not movies and that's why I'll easily take 5 over 4 anyday of the week.

And when you say name 5 game with better cutscenes is a joke. I don't think other games try to put together long cutscenes.

MGS1 is clearly the best in the series because it nailed gameplay and story. Though I enjoyed 2, 5 and somewhat 3, but I cannot say its on same level as 1.

MGS1 story telling still hasn't been match yet by any game I played.

Killzone 2

UC2 for me. Best Uncharted game, still far from being as fun as TLoU or even the GoW series.

I've never purchased or played any of those games in the list, as all of them seem overrated to me. The highest rated Sony games always seem to suck balls.

I ran KZ2 from a fat PS3 with a 160 GB hard drive. The slowdowns I saw were probably due to RAM starvation. They were bad enough to affect my shooting. But, they weren't frequent. I've seen the same on some PC games years earlier when RAM was less than 512 MB.

I was using keyboard and mouse. So, stutters and freezes in KZ2 would have been immediately noticeable. I had a couple slowdowns occur early in the game and then later in the space cruiser levels.

In your case, the freezing and stutters can also be caused by a dirty Blu Ray lens. When was the last time you had it cleaned? ;)

Well they couldn't really do too much since they wrote themselves into a corner in GoW2.

On a side note I still have no idea what the **** Zeus was even doing throughout the entire game, he just randomly appears at the end and taunts Kratos like a saturday morning cartoon character.

GOW 3 is the first game I regret purchasing and the game that pushed me so far away from the series. GOW 2 was great but they fucked up the story and that lead to the spiral of the game. GOW ended perfectly with no room for a sequel.

get demon's souls. best game on the PS3

IDK why killzone 2 is on there. it wasn't really high rated or shoved in our faces much. It's not that good but outside of a small niche eveyrone knows it's a pretty average shooter at best

It's easily between the 3 ND games. i chose TLOU. I can't really consider UC3 as everyone says 2 is much better. So that leaves UC2 and TLOU for me. UC2 wasn't very good at all but it has some decent moments and decent firefights. TLOU had nothing to offer outside of graphics and story. The gameplay was abysmal as a stealth/survival game. not fun at all. The MP was a joke and even had P2W weapons. (tactical shotgun) that wasn't part of the season pass. I remember one of my friends raging that everyone was using it and it was OP so he went and purchased it as we were playing the game. That kinds of shit in games doesn't belong. Imagine if overwatch had an OP character you had to buy separate, or if halo had an OP gun you buy separate. People would be pissed. The only reason it isn't brought up much is cause nobody cared much for the MP. all the love it got was on SP and the story and graphics but nobody bothers to mention the gameplay or the shitty AI that was marketed as being good at E3 and then dumbed down in the final version. It was more like I am alive when they showed it and what we got in the end was a joke. ND is easily the most overrated studio. If they weren't owned by sony, they wouldn't be popular or cared about at all. They benefited from fanboys of a console. They just don't make good games.

I'd say Killzone 2.

I don't know if Uncharted is overhyped because I didn't own a PS3 when it came out.

The only overload on commercials and build up I remember is GOW 3 and I loved that game.

Own a PS3, Can legitimately say it's over-hyped now rather than just making it up.

Maybe now. But, you're missing the impact at the time of original release because the conditions now are different from the conditions then. There have been many newer games since, newer platforms, newer views on games, even newer generations of gamers.

What we consider masterpieces now will be MEH to future gamers.

Bayonetta is compromised as **** on the PS3. The framerate and load times make it insufferable in spots. Get the WiiU or 360 version if you're gonna shell out to play those games.

Vanquish is a must though.
