The Playstation i think, it brought the switch to 3D with some REALLY AMAZING new IP's, not only it had great games it had LOADS of them, plus introduced us to the gorgeous CGI and cd soundtracks
RESIDENT EVIL, METAL GEAR SOLID, FINAL FANTASY, CHRONO CROSS, PARASITE EVE, TOMB RAIDER , TONY HAWK PRO SKATER, ALL THE STREET FIGHTERS, TEKKEN, SOUL EDGE, GRAN TURISMO, CASTLEVANIA SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT.....i could go on and on

second it would be the SNESÂ
It is the SNES but many would argue the point. So I will just say the 16-bit generation.foxhound_foxdefinitly.

PS2 because it got to the masses over 100 mill sold that's impressive.GoldenEye005
How does that make it the best console ever?
i've owned the 8-bit nes, super nintendo, sega genesis, sega cd, sega saturn, nintendo 64, panasonic 3DO, ps1, ps2, and now the Wii. for me it would be a toss-up between the ps1 and the snes. there are so many memorable game for me for the snes like final fantasy 2, final fantasy 3, chronotrigger, secret of mana, secret of evermore, earthbound, illusion of gaia, etc. on the same hand, the ps1 had many game that left me with that "wow! the future is here!" feeling, like metal gear solid, tomb raider1 , the first tekken game, final fantasy 7 (taking my favorite genre into semi 3-D), and then all the amazing titles after the first wave, like chrono cross amongst others.
now the ps1 had some snes port overs of my favorite games, like FF 4,5,6, and chrono trigger. and all my ps1 games i can play on the ps2 because of backwards compatibility, so i'm a happy gamer. there's been so many amazing games for even the sega cd, and the saturn, even the 3DO (i wouldn't have payed $700 when it was new if it weren't good, games like guardian war proved that).
i don't know what my favorite system is...i love my Wii, but am also waiting for dragon warrior 2,3 and 4 to be available on download, so i'm impartial.Â
For me, it's the 360, it's my first console that I properly play, so it's my favourite.
I had an NES, but didn't play much, I was very young. After that, i've been pc gaming up till now.
I have played all the consoles, and I think that NES, SNES are fantastic, so is ps1, ps2 and xbox, but these three, I wouldn't regard as best. Like I said though, my fave is 360, even though I know it's not best of all time, I don't know enough about older gen consoles, pre ps1 and N64, to give a fair conclusion. Â
SNES, and it isn't even close
the classics: Mario World, Yoshi's Island, DKC, DKC2, DKC3, FF2, FF3, Chrono Trigger, A Link to the Past, Mario RPG, Mario Kart, Super Metroid, Earthbound, Mario All Stars... the list goes on and on.

Easily the best, I think 360 will not be to far behind by the time it's finished.
360 is getting some seriously good games on top of what it already has. Halo 3, Mass effect, DMC4, Bioshock, Forza 2, RE5, Fable 2, Too human, Unreal 3, Quake 4, Wolfenstein, Project offset, Huxley, Alan Wake, Gears of war 2, Halo wars, Ace combat 6, Eternal sonata, Lost odyssey. Blu Dragon
the list goes on and on.
In your mind, what is the BEST console EVER made and why.scottishlocard
For now, the NES. But I have a feeling that one day the PS2 will be looked at as the best console ever.Â
