Every game is good in their own way. It would be a fairer question to ask in terms of categories so I'll do that for you (I'm also finding it very difficult to pick just one):
FPS
Deus Ex
Half-Life 2
TPS
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Mass Effect
RTS
Red Alert 2
StarCraft 2
RPG
Baldur's gate II: Shadows of Amn
Planescape: Torment
Fallout 3 (I honestly think Fallout 3 is an outstanding RPG and anyone who thinks otherwise is in my superior opinion, a nostalgic goat).
Those are only a few genres and only a few games.
BUT if I had to pick of all of them... my all time favorite would be Baldur's Gate II. At the moment however it is Fallout 3.
Depends on when you ask me.
Either Final Fantasy 6 or Shadowgate (which few have heard of).

I heard of Shadowgate, can't remember how tho.
I'm leaning towards StarCraft... I mean, I love many types of games, and there are some great FPS games, fun older games, but StarCraft was a classic.
With current gen games, its hard to decide, there are lots of good ones.

I guess im a Nostalgic Goat :)
Its not half the role playing game of the originals, nostalgia or not tbh.
Hey and what about HL1? Â

Personally I dont think there is a greatest game ever, though I agree - you cant say 'best game ever' - it has to be categorised. E.g. Comparing the likes of Ocarina of Time and Half Life in terms of 'the better game' is ridiculous.
There is no such game. The idea of taking our personal "favorite games" and trying to compare apples & oranges until we get some "best" (as agree upon by popularity rather than any real merits ) is simply absurd. For example, Out of this World was a creative and technical breakthrough, and yet almost no one mentions its rotoscoped visuals, dialogue-less design, and intriguing landscapes. Why? Few people have played it.subrosianÂ
Agreed.
Oh and indeed, Out of this World / Another World was a fantastic game.Wish I could get my hands on the anniversary edition
There is no "best ever." Unless of course you can prove it by playing every game in existence, analyzing them all objectively and give a full quantitative report on their contents. People have their favourites but I doubt anyone can prove which is "the best ever."

I'll do that this weekend!Â
hard to say
Zelda: Link to the past
Zelda: Ocarina of time
Zelda: Majora's Mask
Super Mario Bros. 3
Ninja Gaiden: Black
Metal Gear Solid 1
Metal Gear Solid 4
Halo Combat Evolved
Half-Life2 + the episodes
are some of my top favourites.
Snakes... I had to recharge my nokia 3310 around 2/3 times a week.No_Quoter
lol very true. I had the fat 3210 with the first Snake though
less functions = moar battery life = moar snake!
:P
Best game ever is all strictly opinion.
But for me, it's probably Deus Ex overall. I have Symphony of the Night as my #1, but Deus Ex's gameplay is so magnificent to the point where I think it's beyond perfect. Especially for its time.
And I only played it a few months ago.
I have incredibly fond memories of SimCity2000. My favourite game ever.
For those who can remember, TMNT Arcade. That game was pwnage.BudsMcGreen
Agreed, that was a great game. And hey, who cares if I couldn't get past the second level (the one out in the street, after the burning building).
Diablo 2, Resident Evil 4, GTA San Andreas
I have not played these games in a long time, but my best gaming memories were spent with these games.
