Seven Mario Kart games, all of them different, and yet all of them quintessentially the same, all of them exemplifying the Mario Kart spirit: mayhem, chaos, randomness, pure fun.

Which one of these do you find the best?

My personal favorite is, and will perhaps always be, Double Dash. Two players per kart, Special Items, Kart balancing, item stealing... flat out the deepest and most strategic Mario Kart game ever.

Oh, and it also had Baby Park. Four Player Baby Park was the sh*t.

What's your favorite?

My favorite would be... Crash Team Racing for the PSone.:o

:P Mario Kart DS or Mario Kart 7 I think are the best. Probably gotta go with Mario Kart DS but 7 does do a lot of things great.

Double Dash.

Though, they're all almost exactly the same it doesn't really make any difference.

There is no NES version

Double Dash.

Not even in the slightest. The basics remain the same, but each game has its own unique hook, its gimmick so to say.

Mario Kart DS is by far the best, even with the rampant snaking. Mario Kart Wii is also up there, because the Wii wheel control is just fantastic.

Mario Kart DS was the greatest one. I highly doubt the series will ever be as good again, especially considering the disappointing Mario Kart 7.

For me it is 64, then 7 and then Double Dash. Can't comment about SNES or GBA or DS since I didn't play them and the Wii one was awful.

It's a toss up between DS and 7. DS had better single player modes, but 7 had better online and some of the best track designs in the series

For starters, bring back the goddamn two racer mechanic, bring back the bikes, add a Smash Bros-esque item selection system where you can select what kinds of items you want activated in VS and multiplayer races, bring back the Single Player VS mode, bring back Mission Mode, and expand on the kart customization. BAM. Greatest racing game ever.

My personal favorite is MK64 although it has not aged well.

I thought Double Dash was meh.

MKWii is fun but it has issues. Still I'd play it over Double Dash anytime.

Haven't played much of the others.

what you're describing is basically the same type of iriterative improvements that games in a series get all the time though. In the end it's still mario kart

*oh and bikes sucked ass, no need to bring them back*

It's the culmination of all the greatest Mario Kart improvement ever. You know what the problem with Mario Kart is? It takes one step forward, three steps back. Like, it adds a great people per kart mechanic, but gimps the battle mode. Then, it adds an online mode, as well as Mission Mode, but it takes out the two kart racers mechanic. Then it adds motion based racing, tricks, and bikes, but takes out the Mission Mode. Then, it adds a fully competent online mode, hang gliding, submarines, a first person view, but it takes out the bikes, the tricks, and it takes out the single player versus mode. Are you noticing the problem here? Why can't there be one game with all of this in there?

I agree with you, it was a cheap gimmick. I also don't think bikes should be there either, they give an unfair advantage with the wheelie mini turbo.

Tricks are still in MK7 though. Hell most of the stuff they took out from the wii version (bikes, 12 racers per track) was for the better because it fixed the balancing issues that game had

Then instead of removing it, you fix it. Balance the game properly. 12 racers per track would be excellent if balanced properly. Tricks were in 7? You mean pressing R as soon as I jump? That's not a trick, that's... I don't even know what that is. There NEEDS to be an Ultimate Mario Kart game, with EVERYTHING the series ever had in it. Mario Kart DS is the closest we have ever had to it, but it did take out the double player mechanic.

Mario Kart 64 for me. Never gets boring or frustrating. All the newer Mario Karts are frustrating because of cheap AI and too many Blue Shells.

It's everything, overall. And yes, I do agree 7 is massively disappointing in how rushed it was. It did, however, have the best mechanics (sans the exclusion of the two player per kart mechanic... seriously, bring it back!)

Online is great but the aera in which I live is rampant with DS and 3DS owners. My campus (not to be racist) is FILLED with asian people because of the very strong engineering programs. I would estimate that one in five of those asians has a 3DS and 3/5 have DS's. Most of my friends also have both a 3ds and a DS. so when I play over half the time its offline. I haven't had MK7 or my 3DS that long but I assume that it will be the same way.

The only thing of value that was lost was single player versus and mission mode.

Bikes were overpowered and the 12 players made the game a complete clusterf*ck

I like em all, but I will go with Double Dash. My little sister, friends of mine, and I would play that thing for hours on end, and we found some creative ways to put the two player cart system to good use.

Ranked:

5) Mario Kart 64

4) Mario Kart Wii

3) Mario Kart DS

2) Super Mario Kart

1) Double Dash

* I haven't played Mario Kart 7 or Super Circuit

DS followed by Super Circuit in terms of gameplay, controls, content/bonuses, and innovation. DS followed by Double Dash and 64 for that multiplayer nostalgia. DS overall. It was like the Melee in the Smash series, but for Mario Kart, or OoT for Zelda. It paved the future for the series.
