What is the best way to play an FPS?

This is kind of a console versus PC argument here...

But all my PC gamer friends insist that the Keyboard and Mouse is the best way to play an FPS. I've come to disagree with them, I far prefer a controller anymore, especially if there are any platforming elements involved (like in Half-Life 2)

Which type of controll do you prefer for an FPS and why?

Nothing gives you precision like a mouse. So mouse and keyboard.

It's not as much about precision as it is about speed and comfortability though.

Most console controls have expanded aiming so it makes up for the lack of precision somewhat and I find toggling two analogues much more comfortable than using a keyboard and mouse.

Not to mention, having your movement on an analogue allows 360 degree strafing as well as allowing you to adjust your speed at will instead of having to jerk to a stop like you do with a keyboard.

I played UT3 on PS3 with a controller and KBM. Both are good, but it's much easier to play with KBM.

Can't really say about the wii-mote but kb/m is way better than a controller.

Keyboard and mouse is most precise but it can get uncomfortable for my left (keyboard) hand, especially since a lot of funcitons are usually spread out across a bunch of keys.. I prefer the Dual Shock 3 or 360 pad

I used to prefer M&K. N64 controller was very well adapted imo but Xbox1 controller made it perfectly. Right now i think i prefer the 360 controller over any other option including M/K

Keyboard and Mouse by a miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiile!!!!! :D

Haven't played it. I just got red steel yesterday along with NMH in that dual pack. I guess it's a bad first impression of what the wii could do. But maybe i'll go get metroid prime 3 today insteadAnimal-Mother

The smaller one was way better but the first one wasnt bad imo

it is a fact, the proof is, take the top players that use controllers and put them into a FPS against top players who use a KB and mouse. Watch the guys with controllers get absolutely steamrolled, then throw in some players with Wii motes for some gutbusting laughs as they get slaughtered while hardly even moving as KB mouse players dance circles around them wondering if someone let there 2 year old chew on the controller while there in the bathroom. Its not because the pc players are really that much better, its that there aiming is so much faster and so much more accurate, and they have such fast complete control of there movements thats its just not fair.

So far advantages for controllers are rumble and the joystick.

Let's list advantages for the mouse and keyboard shall we?

1. Different mouses have different controls, feels, and sidebuttons. Instead of having 1 controller with different colors, there are literally endless amounts of different types of mice.

2. Sidebuttons, you can map important keys like weapon switching or aiming to different sidebuttons on the mouse. This makes it a lot easier in fast paced situtations.

3. Customization, you can literally map any action to any key on the keyboard and of course buttons on the mouse. With controllers, you can only change the scheme but you can't change the mappings yourselves.

4. Precision, mouse and keyboard is faster and more precise than the joystick. In fact joystick is so slow and innacurrate, some games have auto aim to compensate. Even GTA4 on the PS3 had an extreme type of auto aim where the reticule automatically jumped from person to person.

I think mouse and keyboard wins.
