I'm asking this: What is the Star Wars of gaming? A series that with so much depth, history, and development that people would continue to buy broken installments and poor spin-offs just to get another taste of the mythos.

In my opinion: Metal Gear. Anyone who's beaten all of these games knows that the story is just.. immense. I've had to sit and create diagrams and chronological timelinesjust to put certain things together. Easily the most detailed and intricate story ever told in gaming.

Honorable Mentions: Fallout,Chrono, Xeno-series.

Note: Please don't say Final Fantasy. These games have very little to do with each other. That is, unless you seriously believe that the Final Fantasy VII story arc (VII, CC, DoC, AC)is greater than any other, in which case, feel free to explain, and we'll agree to disagree.

I agree. The Metal Gear series has one of the deepest, complex story in video game history, full of memorable characters people actually care about. Another game series that is pretty epic are the Half Life and Fallout series.

Those games have simplistic design^^ Just about every doorway in quake 2 has a ledge you can stand above doorway waiting for people to run through launch a rocket down on them like this picture gotta be very aware of ur surrounding in quake. http://i43.tinypic.com/2nvc6kg.jpg

Metal Gear Solid is more weird and stupid rather than being complex. As for the answer to the topic, no idea, different games are complex and epic in different ways

Darn TC... I was going to "inb4mgs" but you ruined everything :P. Anyway I would personally say Silent Hill. Even though the games aren't really connected, each game (excluding the recent ones) has such deph and complexity within the story. However, if you meant complex gaming series in terms of all the games together, then I would say the MGS series.

This. The story in Wii Play had extreme amounts of character development. Whenever one Mii won a game, it would get larger! Unbelievable really...:D

It is, its an rpg with pretty much infinite party possibilites. Think about it 6 pokemon, taken from a pool of 493, 4 moves each(from a pool of hundreds), each pokemon also holds an item, then theres teh pokemon stats, and teh actuall use of them in battle

another real camping spot in quake 2. lol no first person shooters today have real camping spots it's all places everyone can get to and knows where they at. http://i41.tinypic.com/zxp1qa.jpg See there's no invisible barrier except the end of the map itself.

MGS for me so far. The storyline, whilst confusing at points, was fulfilling through to the end of MGS4 (the ending wasn't the best).

Half-Life is my next favourite by far. I want Episode 3 and Half-Life 3.

The only one that does fly at me atm is MGS since I'm playing it right now, Halo's story is a bit complex since Halo Wars has it's own chronological (maybe misspelled) timeline, books being made, etc. Elder Scolls seems to have a complex story as well.

For epic/complexity ratio I would say it's got to be the Total War series. It's not mega complicated by genre standards, but it's easily mega epic by genre standards.

I believe TOR can be argued to be in line with the KOTOR storyline since characters' great, great, great, etc. grandchildren our going to be in it and effects that happened in the KOTOR storyline will play a role (if I remember correctly).

I loved the gameplay, but the story is an absolute mess, and way to philosophical. Its like, I don't even know you, why are trying to give me a lesson on philosophy of war? I've been getting more and more lost since MGS1.

I guess Metal gear solid best answers your question.

Just looking for the series which offers the most "Epic" experiance it would probably be the Total War series. Freakin epic battles.

For me it's a dead heat between Metal Gear and Elder Scrolls.
