What is the most epic and complex gaming series of all time?

I'm gonna have to say the Warcraft RTS games and WoW, probably. The amount of stuff in the larger universe and whatnot in those games is astounding, similar to Star Wars in terms of quantity/quality. Although maybe not so many books. I think that sorta dwarfs MGS.

If we're talking console games, I'd say Mass Effect was pretty epic.

Metal Gear series is top along with the Half life universe.

The Legend of Zelda

The story of the MGS games is certainly so complex as to be convoluted.

I'd say Xenogears + Xenosaga.

It's chock-full of weird religious imagery and crazy philosophy. I remember playing Xenosaga 1 for the first time, and sitting through those ridiculously long cutscenes going, "WTF is happening here?"

It may not be complex, but my favorite videogame story would have to be the Halo series.

I would have said 'The Elder Scrolls' series before Oblivion (and to a lesser extent, Morrowind) was released. Right now, I have no idea.

I'd say that the most epic series is definitely the Ultima series - they follow the story of the Avatar and his allies across 13 (or so - 9 in the main series, plus spin-offs) lengthy RPGs. Aside from being one of the first RPGs, it was also one of the first game series to allow players to import their characters from previous games in the series.

As for the most complex, I don't know, but I think that the Myst series is definitely the most detailed, so...that, I guess.

MGS series, Elder Scrolls and Fallout series for complex stories and lore

I would have to agree and say the Metal Gear series is rather epic and complex. But, I also find the Elder Scrolls series, KOTOR series, and the Mass Effect series.

There are so many different games that are epic and/or complex on different levels. But in terms of true "epicness", the series(s) I mentioned above surely take the cake.

Well Star Wars is like Halo because they all expanded beyond the games/movies, Halo even have it's own ecyclopedia.

BUT keep in mind its just the most complex Ive played, there are WAAAAY better series/games out there.

I think it's called Romance of the Three Kingdoms, extremely complex gameplay, you have to micromanage every state/officer/cities and then there's also the strategy style combat.

Most epic I'm torn between Final Fantasy series and Metal Gear Solid.

Came here to say this, but I was beat to it.

Really people. The Legacy of Kain series has a mindblowing complex and deep story, without all the filler and bad writing of the Metal Gear series. Its much deeper and better written.

The least complex games i have played are MGS, DMC, Halo and generally nearly everyshooter is as shallow as can get

Total war series is simply amazing, huge armies and great micro managment, amazing detail and great gameplay.

Story Wise:

WarHammer / 40k.8) Both Epic and Complex on a Big Scale.

There are games based on the The Warhammer Lore so that's enough for me to Count it. But even though The Games are Heavily based on the Lore None of them actually even Scratch the surface, Its just too much for one game can use.

Second Pick: Warcraft - Series. (Warcraft even started as a Warhammer game.)

Third Pick: Metal Gear Solid - Series.

As said before The X - Series, Like X3: Reunion/Terran Conflict, Both Epic in Scale/ And Highly Complex for newcomers.

Also allot of Games from the RTS,RTT,TBS,etc. Genre Like the TotalWar - Series, Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander, And So on.
