it can be from any generation and the game does not have to be good just violent.

Manhunt
Nothing like the medium charge of the sickle where you swing it beneath a guys legs, hook it into his "goody bag", and RIP the sickle back.
What kind of violent? Over-the-top violent (like most games on the market these days) or cerebrally violent (the violence may not even be depicted but implied)? I can't actually think of a game that would fall into the latter category. Kind of a shame too. That kind of violence tends to be the most unsettling.foxhound_fox
Your post brings to mind for some reason that scene from Majora's Mask, if you fail to complete the Romani Ranch sidequest... :?
I'd say Dead Space 2. I know there are games more violent than that but man, the gore and brutality in DS2 is something. Although you do get desensitized to it after a while, it is still very disturbing and violent.
Manhunt was unsettling.

The original Manhunt was fantastic. Stealth elements and finishers were great. In terms of just a demented situation, Manhunt would win. Pure violence (like blood and gore) I'd say would go to either Madworld (forgot about this one) or Splatterhouse.

Not if you live in Australia... 8)
Well I don't live in AU :PI'd have to say Manhunt or Soldier of Fortune II.
With games like God of War, Gears of War and Bulletstorm you get super gore, but its very exaggerated and even a bit cartoony or over the top, so it doesn't feel like it packs a big queasy punch. In Manhunt though, the deaths and the manner in which they happen are terrifyingly gruesome, which is made all the worse when you remember that its you doing all the serial killing (though to be fair, these aren't a bunch of weak teenagers you are murdering).
Soldier of Fortune is incredibly gory and is just a bit over the top, but still somewhat (for its time) realistic in its focus and gore.
Any answer but manhunt is wrong. The first kill in the game is with a plastic bag for crying out loud. Sticking shards of glass in guys eyes. and chopping guys heads off all while they are blisfully unaware. That game is like sodomy
Killzone 3/Gears of War
But God of War 3 is in my backlog. Once I finish that I'm sure it'll be number one.
Edit: Almost forgot about Dark Sector. Fun but very very violent game.
