What is the scariest game of all time?

For me it was Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, something about the good/bad graphics and the whole foggy environment reallllly creeped me out, sometimes bad graphics work so good for scary games, even though at the time they were some of the best graphics out. They really need to put more effort into making horror games actually scary and SH 2 did it by putting you into the unknown mood. Here are some good screens that give a better idea of what i mean... btw, some people complain about controls (i liked them) but having sketchy controls adds to the fear factor. this game owned

Definitely Silent Hill 2 and Fatal Frame 2.

Silent Hill 2 seriously messed with your head. The time spent in the prison is a fantastic example of that. I mean I don't see how anyone can NOT be scared/disturbed by the bathroom scene you can trigger.

Fatal Frame 2 also happens to have the best ump-scares I have ever seen in a game. Will never forget when the broken-neck ghost snuck up on me. Npthing quite like randomly going into first person mode and finding an enemy RIGHT IN YOUR FACE!!!

for me it was silent hill 1, sure i was like 12 but what ever, what can i say? i'm easly scared

like when a game gets a great rate and suck? those are the scariest ;) zing

back to serious, what scared me most in a game ever was fighting Vulcan Raven (the real fight) in MGS1, i was genially scared of that guy and running for my life... snakes life... what ever :P

Resident Evil 1, Dead Space, or Doom 3 (PC version)

Definetly Silent Hill 2, though Haunting Ground did a pretty good job too at driving up my heart rate

The underground parts of STALKER. Especially when something explodes and takes all the lights in the room out.

F.E.A.R was pretty freaky for most the game, & though some don't like it, I thought the ending was one of the best in a video game. It didn't need a sequel. Dead Space was, for me, even scarier for about the first half, then I sort of got used to it, & it turned into just an awesome third person shooter (one of the best, most polished games this gen in my opinion).

Alien vs Predator 2 - The first mission of the human campaign. That was pretty freaky at the time. [spoiler] And it turns out there wasn't one enemy to fight in the whole mission - That's atmosphere done well. [/spoiler]

I dunno but I'll say that for it's time, the first RE was a super creepy freaky game to play in the dark though CV is the best.

I don't get scared from games and moves but Dead Space had a lot of "Boooo" moments if I remember right so I'll go with that.

Oh, and Demons Souls was scary but in different way.Its hard enough to make you scared of getting owned too many times lol. :P

Probably The Path since it was mind**** and was the first game in a while that I had trouble sleeping after playing alot of the game.:P Afraid of Monsters is a pretty scary one too.

silent hill...Although i didnt play it. I watched my friend play it... I was like 10 i think but that game scared the crap out of me...I never visited my friend for a year after that :P

I played most of Fatal Frame in the dark with videoglasses. That was my only gaming experiencewhich made me take breaks to calm down.

Wow... How am I the first one to post System Shock 2? So many people have posted Dead Space (which is a great game don't get me wrong) which isn't really that scary... but haven't posted the original horror space game. I guess most of the people who posted are too young to have played it. If so, you guys really need to get on Amazon, Ebay, etc... and get yourself a copy. Any modern PC can handle it.

FEAR hands down.

Condemned 2 had a few parts where I leaped, involving mannequins and bears. And exploding babies.

I take it that not many people here played Alone in the Dark, four years earlier. Basically the same game, only you didn't get any particularly good weapons (and certainly no rocket launchers).

Anyway, I'm guessing that the Penumbra games are certainly up there, although I've been too terri- uh, i mean, *busy* to properly play through them yet.

Hopefully Amnesia will blow them all away, though.
