It's library is lacking. Consoles don't need anything else listed to be good (although hardware certainly does help), especially the last one which has basically nothing to do with gaming. nintendofreak_2
Media functions are really nice though. I had the same ideology as you do until I got my 360 and realized how nice it is to have a functioning media center in one device. It is nice to be able to throw an .avi or .mp3 file from my PC onto a memory stick and play it on the television through my 360. While not having the function will not bring the quality down, having media capabilities will make the system that much more desirable.

I'd say the lack of a hard-drive. HD TVs are still in the minority in households. There are lots of people, myself included, that thing that the library is the Wii's strongest point, due to the unique quality of many of its games. Inaccurate? That's not even true. Lack of Multimedia functions? That's not what people buy a game console for, and it keeps the price down.

Oh I don't hate multi-media, but the problem I have is that it drives up the cost and it's usually something I'm not going to use on my gaming console. I already have a PC and an Ipod Touch, I don't need much else for my non-gaming media.

The Wii has so many, but its most glaring is its library, just not enought there that is even half decent let alone AA/AAA quality. There is also the almost non existent on-line, the 480p is it makes you want to vomit if you play in on a HDTV, the lack of power so it can't even match up at that lower res. The HDD is a big one, kinda makes the downloading of games seem pointless and why can it still not play DVDs?

In retrospect I should have dropped innaccurate motion controls and put online functionality.

I'm not sure why I didn't think of it when I made the poll... Might have something to do with having recently played a game where I was annoyed with the motion controls.

[QUOTE="RABicle"]People saying the game library probably don't own a Wii. There are more than enough high quality games to keep any gamer busy. Saying that the Wii's game library is weak is like calling the PS2s game library weak based off the slew of shovelware. Lack of a HDD though, it just kills me. I have like over a gig of downloaded content and guess what, ONLY 512 meg of SPACESonick54

If we go by gamespot and gamerankings, wii has factually (review wise) the weakest lineup of the 3 :|

unlike the ps2, wii doesn't have the unbandance of AA and AAA games to outweigh the shovelware.

I own a wii and even i know this year was pretty slim pickings in terms of quality games

If we go by exclusive titles, Wii is pretty much king of the pack. Everything highly rated on Xbox 360 is on PC, similar with to the PS3. Wii had a ton of great games this year. I'm just thinking off the top of my head here, Boom Blox, Okami, World of Good, Smash bros, Mario Kart (wtf at the haters, this is the best Mario Kart yet by far) Disaster Day of Crisis (LOL SORRY AMERICA) Wii Fit, Wii Music, LostWinds. It only feels bad because 2007 was so epic and 2009 promises endless riches. (Jungle Beat and Wii Sports Resort in teh same year? THAT'S UNFAIR NINTENDO!"

And that was when they were trying to limit their releases to give 3rd parties their chance in the limelight. 3rd parties really dropped the ball on that one.

So you'd prefer that lineup compared to:

GTA4

MGS4

Braid

Left 4 Dead

NHL 09

Gears of War 2

Resistance 2

GRID(yeah, it came out for the DS, but not the Wii)

Call of Duty World At War

Civilization Revolution

Prince of Persia

Mirror's Edge

And before you say "But most of them are shooters!" see how sheep are hyping shooters as well(House of the Dead Overkill, The Conduit, Mad World)

Easily its library. Nintendo has done its part with the WIi, that's for sure. They've given us an amazing wave of first-party titles within the first few years; they've given us WiiWare and VC; and while I don't play them, games like Wii Fit are innovative. Now it's up to the 3rd-party developers to fill in what Nintendo has missed.

I would have to say the library. Nintendo's games are wonderful (Super Mario Galaxy is one of my favorite games of all time), and I love the virtual console/wii ware service. However, it does seem that 3rd party developers aren't delivering the same goods for wii as they have been for other consoles. However, some developers seem to be working hard at fixing this with games like Boom Blox, de Blob, Shaun White, etc. It is also unfortunate that some of the really good wii games go unnoticed. Most of my friends (even my wii owning friends) have never heard of Zack and Wiki, and it is one of my favorite games. I think that one of the wii's biggest weak points is a lack of RPGs when compared to other current gen consoles.

I still say it's the hardrive and maybe even the graphics capabilities. The games are merely a symptom of those weaknesses.

I'd have to say the hardrive. I dont really care about graphics all that much. I like the Wii's library and I think the motion controls can work very well (keryword here is can). I also bought the Wii to play games, not DVDs or music. Especially since I already have about 8 DVD players in this house (5 of which are built into PCs). The (the lack of) a harddrive however is something that really holds back stuff like Wiiware and DLC. 512 MB is good enough for save games, but not good enough for downloadable games and features. The biggest weakness of the Wii however so far have been the developers themselves. Too many devs think of the Wii as a way to make a quick buck. While I dont care about shovelware games, it does pain me to see games that have potential go to waste because a developer didnt put in that extra bit of effort.

Bad graphics and dodgy motion controls. If the motion controls were accurate and the graphics were at least comparable to the PS3 and the 360, the game library would be a lot better because 3rd party developers would maybe take the Wii more seriously instead of seeing it as a toy. The lack of a hard drive is bad, especially since the launch of WiiWare but it's nowhere near as important as having good graphics and accurate motion controls. The Wii has the potential to be the best console on the market but it isn't because Nintendo wanted to make a console that was cheap.

probably the games. Its not without its good games, but not enough manage to use the unique hardware very well and only 1 or 2 good games are coming out each year.
