Why hasn't it sold more? It has a great graphics card why hasn't it taken off. I was thinking about getting one.

Nothing. People, developers and publishers included, are judging it within the launch window. That is just dumb.

Wiiu pales in comparison to the 360's launch window. PS 4 launch window will destroy wiiu as well, mark my words.

Sorry but i think you have to be lvl 10 to create topic...but as for your question Nintendo has been handeling the wiiu very poorly. The onlline is strugling, no chat support and other issues that are holding the system down. Alot of people dont even know what a wiiu is they think its an add on its troubleing:?

Lack of game's and a possibly inflated price. People are also looking out for the Nextbox/PS4, so it's harder to justify spending so much on a WiiU.

It has no games that can't be found elsewhere. People don't buy new consoles to pick up copies of games they already own elsewhere.

The wii u will be nintendo's dreamcast. The irony is that the dreamcast also had a screen in the controller. And that it was also had a lot weaker hardware than the consoles that were released shortly after. It's sad for nintendo, they really shouldn't have released a console right now, especially not with a screen in the controller and especially one that isn't that much stronger than a xbox 360 and ps3. The consoles from sony and ms will utterly destroy the wii u, and expect the wii u to be discontinued shortly after the release of the next xbox and playstation.

It's being run by one of the worst gaming companies in the business, thus it has jack sh!t for games. The tech is "decent" but so far the console leaves a LOT to be desired.

Give it a while before you buy it, there's just a barren wastelands when it comes to games, you'll thank me for not buying it now I promise.

Because it's so far has shown a Vita-level decline. Who knows, Ninteno might turn things around, but for the near future it looks like it's going to be selling like crap.

As for what's wrong with it? Weak launch for starters. It's biggest killer App was New Super Mario Bros. a game on it's third iteration. Outside of that, it has a bunch of multiplats already available on 360 and PS3. Speaking as someone who owns a PS3, I currently have no reason to rush out and buy one.

A failure by Nintendo to recognize what it was about the original Wii that made it the top seller amidst vastly superior technology.

Negative feedback.

Learn about it.

And you can't really say that Nintendo did a lot to counter it either.

The Vita is DOA. I'm not going to dispute that. Wii-U is going to need a Super Smash Bros or Legend of Zelda game post-haste. I don't think the Wind Waker-remake is going to be enough to get people interested, and Pikman is probably the most niche of all of Nintendo's first party titles.

I think Monolith Soft's game is the one ray of hope the WiiU has right now.

His point it valid tho.

Dreamcast had impressive visuals when it debuted and could easily rival launch PS2 titles.

Infact, the DC had the edge when it came to texture detail and smooth edges. (PS2 couldn't do hardware anti-aliasing)

I don't think you understand just how much Sega screwed up. It would take an amazing amount of administrative incompetence on Nintendo's part, with their massive warchest of money and franchises, to let Wii U go the way of Dreamcast.

The ps2 has a computing power of 6.2 gflops The dreamcast only 1.4 gflops And the ps2 was the weakest of all the rest. But the playstation had a lot more going for them, the succes of the playstation 1 for instance, the dvd, they released also ahead of the others (besides sega then). The xbox may have been a lot stronger on paper but it was basically just a pc, which is not the same as a custom console. Xbox was also new to the market and came more than a year behind the ps2. The ps2 had enough power to make it, the dreamcast didn't.

lol, flops...

It doesn't matter how much "flops" a console has (we're not talking about general computing here after all), it matters what it actually manages to output.

Dreamcast was impressive for it's time, a big jump from consoles such as PS1 and N64.

PS2 having, on paper, much more capable CPU didn't really mean anything for real-world game performance.

The GameCube and Xbox had newer GPU architecture and left it in the dust easily when it came to graphical quality.

So no, you're completely wrong about the reason why DC flopped.

It was simply Sega's decision to retreat from the console hardware race due to their heavy financial losses and the hype around the PS2 and other "next-gen" consoles (i.e. GameCube & Xbox) at the time.

lol flops, yeah right

You saying flops aren't important doesn't change the fact that they are very important, general computing or game computing, a cpu is a cpu, and it was way more important back then than it was now, because a lot more was programmed on the cpu than on the gpu.

The dreamcast may have been impressive compared to a ps1 and a n64, but it was far from impressive compared to the hardware available at that time. So was the ps2 actually but the ps2 was still strong enough to keep up with the latest game developments like first person shooters for instance. There's a reason the game unreal tournament was laggy on the dreamcast, i couldn't keep up with it, while the unreal version of the ps2 was actually an enhanced version of that on the pc, allthough it came out several years later, but so was was the dreamcast version.

You're talking about the gamecube and the xbox, but they came like 1,5 year later than the ps2. And they got their graphics quality from the developments in gpu's. The fact is the ps2 had enough computational power to keep up, that and the succes of the ps1, the dvd, made the system succeed. Sega's dreamcast had a too weak cpu too keep up and they knew that, the fact that the system didn't support any dvd 's only made it worse, and the screen in the controller would not have saved them. They just threw in the towel to avoid any bigger catastrophes.

Nintendo may have more money than sega had back in the day, but they put a lot of money in that wii u, and it's going to fail miserably, The 3ds is a fail too. Trust me , i can't see the future, but i can't see nintendo competing anymore in this next console war. The next xbox and playstation will support all sorts of crazy stuff (3d for instance), that the wii u simply won't have the power for.

The only thing they can do , is invest in more motionplus games, because i have that, and that works great. But sony has this too, and xbox next kinect will probably deliver. So having a 3d hologram swordfight in your living room will happen , i just don't think the wii u will be able to handle that. It will also not be able to handle next gen graphics, the system will become laggy very fast and it will be RIP nintendo.

Mean while, in reality...

Really some of you guys are on some crazy sh*t and I wish you would share.  Good stuff!

But a sober mind knows that the first half of your last sentence is the only thing you said that makes sense.. and even then its only from a hardware point of view.  I'm sure you meant overall success, which is laughable.

You should educate yourself on what actually happened with the Dreamcast.  The many factors it had going against it.  Then compare and contrast that with Nintendo in their current position.

I'm sure Nintendo will lose a lot of market share this gen, but exiting the console market?  Discontinuing the Wii U?

Allow me to go ahead and say "I told you so" now, just because theres no way I'll remember this next year.

I said i can't predict the future, but honestly where can the wii u go? Nintendo had a chance here to compete with the other console manufacturers, if they made the wii u a lot stronger without that stupid controller or with it, but just a lot stronger instead on focussing on how much power the thing used.

Who cares if the thing uses 200 W or 100 W. They made all the bad choices.

The only difference with sega is that they had less money, because of previous failures, like the saturn or sega mega cd. But sega still exists , they just don't make any consoles anymore.

Competing in the console market is a very expensive business, The sales of the wii u now are desastrous, the console has no future, and the handheld gaming market seems like the only option for nintendo. Allthough as a true handheld the only big competition is sony but all the android phones , ipad and other tablets do cater somewhat the same market.

I can't see them survive , they probably tag along for quite some time, but they will need to step out sooner or later, or come with something no one expects.

It's going after an audience that never cared for them.

An inability to enthrall either the core or casual audience.

[QUOTE="ConanTheStoner"]

[QUOTE="evildead6789"]The wii u will be nintendo's dreamcast. The consoles from sony and ms will utterly destroy the wii u, and expect the wii u to be discontinued shortly after the release of the next xbox and playstation.evildead6789

Wow, thanks for the civil response to my somewhat trollish post!

Anyways.  Guess I'm just not seeing it man.  Where can the Wii U go?  They can launch some flagships and issue a minor price drop before next holiday and go far enough.

Power never really determined console success.  Quite the opposite actually.  We just came out of two gens back to back were relatively weak consoles saw the most success.  And while the next consoles will surely be running circles around Wii U, the mainstream consumer wont care too much.  The Wii U delivers a crisp enough image that it doesn't completely look like an antique.  A lot of people wont be combing over specs.  They'll just see a lower priced console, a bunch of Nintendo games and good enough graphics.

The Wii U is looking disastrous, but so was the 3DS.  I think its way too early to even guess at the Wii Us future.  Its only a few months in and all the major titles are still in the cooker.

And Nintendo is in a better position than Sega was on all fronts.  The financial difference is staggering of course, but also their stable of series that sell ridiculously well.  Like insanely well.

Besides that, the Wii U could sell 20 millions units in its lifetime and still be considered a success and I'm certain it will do better than that.  I think Nintendo may have to bow out of the hardware race at some point, but I don't see the Wii U being the catalyst.  They would have to make a series of horrible decisions for the next two years for that to happen.

It's too similar to 360 and PS3, which already have libraries of hundreds.

This, The Wii U feels like a last gen console and no one wants it.

Why would there be something wrong with it?
