Notes: 1. I put the names them by their series. 2. You have to choose one, that's why it's your 'favorite'. A Western Role Play Game were the first computer RPGs (Pen and paper were the very first). Based off making choices that effect the world and of coruse, leveling up your character. Japense Role Play Games, I don't really know much about them. Japan seems to have their own view on them and make their RPGs based on a story you must follow in a linear path like a nice long manga(SP?) . Dungeon Crawlers are about throwing story out the window (usually) and crushing literally hundreds or even thousands of monsters with your might or your magic (or both). You fight the most powerful foes in dungeons full of traps and treasures alone or a very small group. Tactical Role Play games are kinda like RTS games. I know very little about them both I know that TRPGs are known to be the hardest games out there, right under TFPSes. Some likely would know is DotA which is a Warcraft MOD based off only the hero classes and powering them up as the battle going on while trying to destrory your opponents towers (as you defend yours). Or FFT were you command a bunch of people instead of 3 or 4 heroes. Massive Multilayer Online Role Play Games are arguably the most hardcore. They are about building up your character more than any other RPG. All about working together to bring down super powerful foes. They are not only about playing a game, but socializing as you'll make many friends. They usually about 'roles' like someone to take damage, someone to give it, and someone to heal them. All about the team work. No matter which one you choose they are all long and have character building. Your quest for power only ends when you drop the game. These games are not just fun, but addicting as you will keep player to get that one last level. Now; Choose your destiny!

Western RPGs. Although in reality there's very few games of the quality of Baldur's Gate, Fallout and Planescape Torment. So it would be wrong to assume the mayority of western RPGs are like such great games.

It's a toss-up between Western RPGs, Final Fantasy, and Diablo. I still have a soft side for Diablo though, I could still remember having two Butcher's cleavers in the first one to use alternatively in case one of them gets dull.

I love all RPGs equally (JRPGs to a lesser extent) to choose which one would be like choosing a favorite child.

Baldur's Gate 2, Fallout, WoW, Diablo/D2, KOTOR all rank among my favorite games. Choosing one RPG genre is impossible, sorry.

Most of the above. I love me some Fire Emblem, TES (both WRPG and Action-RPG variants :P), and FF, as well as several other established RPG franchises (those are just the most notable).

I strongly dislike MMOs however due to the poor gameplay structure and idiotic communities they tend to create.

I thought Dungeon Crawlers would be more popular... :( Just to make sure people know, WRPGs only mean normal RPGs like the old Fallout games. I remember seeing threads were MMORPGs and ARPGs were all tied into WRPGs, they're NOT in this poll.

Choices 1, 3, and 5. Puckhog04

Choices 2 and 4 for me. I'd actually say I like tactical gameplay more, but it needs a good system. No other rpgs I've played compare to FF7 and FF Tactics (haven't played Crisis Core or Tactics A2 though :(). We need more quality tactical RPGs, and far better stories for both types.

There were many JRPGs I have quit simply because I didn't like the main character and couldn't even change him out of his punk style clothes clothes. Anyway, do you think tactical RPGs sould be turned back or real time? :?

I prefer actual role playing games, like Fallout or Arcanum. JRPGs aren't really RPGs at all; they are just action-adventure games with some character building.

But you know, when you think about it, there haven't been many true role playing games, Western or otherwise. There are so many hybrids and bastardised off-shoot genres that the label "RPG" has lost all of its meaning and the life of the genre's core is all but exhausted, as it barely manages to hang on through various indie development communities.

Hell, the term 'RPG' is used to describe games like 'Mass Effect' these days, and most people think that's just ****ing dandy.

I love true RPGs, but action RPGs are ok too and FPS/RPGs like Deus Ex are amazing. Too bad they are pretty rare.

I hate J"RPG"s and MMORPGs.

Western RPG, although i'll admit that the ONLY western RPGs i've played are KOTOR, KOTOR II, Jade Empire & Mass Effect. I love how what you do has real effects on the story. I like JRPGs alot also but most of the ones I've played (I haven't played alot) feel more like i'm playing a story thats been laid out for me rather than i'm making the story happen.

My perfect game would be a Star Wars Bio-ware/Raven game. Jedi Knight II combat and levels but everything else is KOTOR style (dialog, your impact on the story, story and story telling, etc).

Just want to know... has a Japanese ever made a true role play game before? Are they just incapable? :? I heard the Japanese use to make FPSes during the PS1 era but they all did bad so they gave up.

My favorite RPG is Guild Wars. Its not a full on MMO, it doesn't take as long to build up your characters, so you can have the experience of co-op and guilds and all that but not as much time grinding.

Quoted.

For.

Truth.

Dark Heresy is the current game system I'm using.

When a vidya gaem RPG can randomize someone's arm being blown off with such force that the bone shrapnel blinds the player trying to stop the hole that was left in their chest bleeding then I will submit.

You can buy the books in any good bookshop, or failing that Amazon will stock them.

And as for players. Do you have any friends that might be interested? You only need 5 players to have a fun game.
