oh.
my current displays are pretty laughable right now. outdated TV and an outdated monitor.
but I did recently find a LCD monitor I'm going to buy and use it for my PC and 360. 1080p-capable.
as long as it's LCD/Plasma really. I've been hearing good things about Plasma though, never understood why they don't come in displays smaller than 40'' though.
as for what a display should be for videogames. I looked for response time: 3 MS or less. a 300 cd/m2. capable of at least 720p. ~22 inch display or larger.
I actually use a 24'' Acer LCD 1080p monitor with my PS3,360 , and picture quality is amazing , And much cheaper than Tvs.ultrapc
due to the lack of a TV tuner. mostly.
which is fine. a PC can have a tuner card anyhow. and I'm fairly sure monitor's are much better at scaling images than TVs are. rather that TVs are just piss poor for the odd resolutions.

It's either a 19" 1440x900 LCD monitor or a 32" 720p TV @ 1280x768. I prefer the latter. We have a 42" Bravia in the master bedroom. But, the wife said no gaming on it.The kid has a 32" Sony Trinitron SDTV which still looks decent even if it's non-HD.
A crappy old TEAC from 1997. Almost as old as me. But I digress; in a few months, it's going to be Christmas, so I'll just ask for a new tv then. Failing that, I'll head to Cash Converters (pawn shop) and hunt for a decent tv there.

How much did you pay for it? -- would you recommend it to someone making their first HDTV purchase?
I think I paid like 400-500 for it...when HDTVs were pretty new. And Toshiba isn't bad though you can get a fairly cheap LG or Samsung one that's probably just as good. That's what she said?50 inch Samsung 1080p....... personally wish i went smaller sometimes

I use several displays depending on where I am and the like. I have a 15, 19, 32 and 40" LCD screens, and for the 360 the best looking are the 15 and 32" ones, because these are the ones that are closest to 720p res.
For my PCI generally use the 19" as this is the right kind of size and res for my PC to look good on. For consoles its best to use 720p resolution screens, not 1080p. In my experience anyway.

also due to there being no speakers and only 16.7 million colours and low end video prosessing . Tvs spank monitors in picture . all LCDs do a bad job at displaying anything other then its native res. They have fixed pixels . Tvs have better cpus in them and can do a great job at upscaling .

Same here. I do much better online when playing on a monitor with headphones.
[QUOTE="jshaas"]I have a 40" Samsung LCD 1080p. Got it when Circuit City went out of business... saved about $400 on it.thepoop7No you didn't, Circuit City wanted you to think you did.....but you really didn't "save" anything on it. Circuity City declared bankruptcy. The stores were liqudated, all of them. I actually had one like 5 minutes from my house, sadly it was a BRAND NEW store that had literally JUST opened a matter of weeks before the bankruptcy. Anyway I probably visited it about 10 times while they were liquidating as I'm always scoping out deals. Alot of it was a joke. Especially if you went in there day one. The liquidation company started out discounting things like 10% off retail which is laughable as many of the prices were worse than what you expect to find just out of regular Circuit City sale. But as the days went on they did have some pretty rediculous deals. I got a Nikon SLR Camera and lens kit for $200. There was NO WAY to get that camera kit for less than $500 anywhere else, not even ebay. However for the most part the best stuff in liquidations probably gets bought up in bulk and sold on places like Overstock.com or whatever.

50" Toshiba 1080p plasma and its definately nice for gaming. i can lay back on the couch and play for hours and dont have to worry about being right in front of the screen. I will be upgrading to an LED tv by xmas though

I have an Asus 24" LCD 1080p monitor. I'm not wasting my money on consoles though. I use it strictly for my PC.
Picture quality is phenomenal. It does seem to be twice as good as any standard television.

Monitors have better resolutions and are you really using no speakers as a negative? There are PC monitors that do in fact have speakers built in, though not sure why anyone would WANT to use built in speakers with monitors or TVs. As for up-scaling, meh if console games did true HD we would not have to worry about this would we?Please Log In to post.
