What made Sony think they could sell a $600 gaming machine?

What was Sony thinking? That money grows off of trees? Did they honestly think the PS3 was going to sell anywhere near as much as the Wii? Were they only catering to the "hardcore"?

They are sticking to their longterm plan. Lets see how it does and what they do over the next 8 years or so with it.

This year I am flying to America from London on my holidays (looking forward to it!)

I could afford a Playstation 3 if I wanted one. Unfortunately it is a flawed console.

People buy the wii for a secondary system also cause its so cheap.

Yeah its just getting ridiculous how peopel bash the PS3 so easily when none of them ever played or owned one and its the peoples preference to buy the ps3 over 360 and wii.  If you dont like that then thats your problem.

and yet it still sold more than x360 in japan if few weeks. Imagine if x360 was $600 dollars? thats what i thought. And later on when ps3 drops to $400 bucks they will sell like hot cakes all over the world. Remember when ps2 and xbox had their latest price drops? which one was selling? and which one wasnt? ohh yea thats what i thought.

I never mentioned the 360. That's what I thought. Sony projected the PS3 to sell way more than what it has. That's what I thought. When the PS3 drops in price, the Wii will already be far ahead of it. That's what I thought. You talk like a cow recorded on a broken record. That's what I thought.

They thought that they could deceive idiotic PS fanboys that PS3 is the best because it is more expensive, they succeded with some,but definatly not the majority, seems even fanboys see that 360 has 2x better hardware for GAMES, in half the price and double or triple the games, and best multiplt versions too !!!

An overall OVERKILL on every gaming front from 360 to PS3

For some strange reason whenever I think about it, I get this image in my head of the Playstation devision being forced to incorperate Blu-Ray into PS3 to help Sony win the media storage war.

 I suppose it must have made some kind of sence back then during development. Lets face it, if Nintendo had not spoiled the party by bringing out the WII (and who among you can truly say you saw that coming), the PS3 would probably have sold very well and blu-ray would have sneaked into the homes of millions of peoples.

LOL!!! ... you know i thought lems would be ashamed to put the 300 as even a choice after what r* said. the core really isn't a choice its a burden to most since you end up buying everything the premium has sooner or later but instead paying more then 400. it is also the sole mistake microsoft has done to lower their market share and next-gen span. The 400 dollar price in my opinion, is the sweet spot for a next-gen console. Whe sony's console hits that price-line you can expect it to sell crazy both to hi-def buyers (cheap blu-ray player and hi-quality at that) and gamers..

hopefully the ps3 will hit 450 around christmas time. i know its wishful thinking but im pretty sure cost would be down by then and they are realizing the war for north america (japan, and europe are still sony base) could be lost since halo is coming out.

killzone... you better not dissapoint... if it could end up being half of what halo is in gameplay that is a worthy success in my opinion. lets hope it tops even that!!! (wishful thinking again.. i know)
